Given how nice Book's jumper looks, I'm surprised he's only a 35% career 3-pt shooter.

This honestly has been a mystery to me as well. Early in his career i thought it was due to having little help and playing off the ball too little due to not having a competent point guard - but his three-point percentage hasn't improved next to Rubio and Paul and he seems to miss a bunch of wide-open shots.

I think he shoots over 40% with catch and shoots. His iso 3s and pull up 3s are a bad % though.

Without being too dramatic, this team is filled with guys who mirror that “no respect” chip on the shoulder attitude.
Ja- always second fiddle for whatever reason and plays with that fire that he wants it all
Tillman/Bane/Clarke- all had historic college careers but slipped to the late first for pretty much the same reasons, age/lack of a certain measurements/etc. They just continue to produce.

There seems to be a lot going wrong for him at the moment on that end. His footwork seems to be all over the place and ya I dont know if its lack of energy or his size which is preventing him from moving laterally well. Its not hard to find clips of him at Duke getting switched onto PGs and that dude is moving his feet very well and PGs cant get by him.

So the big drop off in not just defensive awareness (should be expected from college to pros) but defensive fundamentals from Duke to now is hard for me to grasp. So I hate to continue to harp about his weight, but that really can be the only thing I can think of. He still doesnt have the stamina or the lateral ability he had at Duke, because of that he is conserving energy or just getting tired, and because of that the footwork and fundamentals kind of go out the window.

Do you think it could be his knee? He seems to be able to plant and move on offense, and my guess is that's because he can prepare his body for it. He doesn't seem to be planting on defense, maybe because he doesn't have confidence in his knee. I've experienced that before. He's also lost half a foot or more on his vertical, his speed isn't the same, and he seems timid compared to his old self. His one footed leap has been shelved, and he's the most explosive one footed leaper since Lebron. It's amazing he's as good as he is, since he seems maybe 65% of the athlete he was. The weight is a concern, could his body have just developed this way?

I believe he's a hard worker with his head on straight, and an awesome teammate. I don't think he'd get to the pros and just start dogging it. The whole thing is almost a Fultz level bewilderment.

It could be his knee. In all honesty though, I wouldnt be shocked if he is just a 20 year old struggling with his weight. Every meal at Duke was prepared for him, so it was pretty easy for him to stay at a good weight while in college. He could just be struggling finding the right diet for him that he can stick with living on his own.

Offensively he can still score with ease because he is still quick for his size and just like at Duke, the majority of his half court scoring came from layups and his crazy good touch.

Its on the defensive end where as a freshman he was a DPOY finalist. The dude was a fantastic defender. And it wasnt just the highlight blocks, he played damn good fundamental defense. That is pretty much gone right now. So all I can point to is the obvious visual thing I can notice, which is he is still much thicker than he was at Duke. So my amateur guess is just weight being the main culprit.

Well I guess that could be it. I kinda hope it is, because that's ostensibly an easier fix than if he had a bum knee. Maybe his body has developed in a way that neither he, nor the team, could have prepared for, and that maintaining a good weight will be much more challenging for him than other players. I've enjoyed reading your insight into Zion dating back to his Duke days.

And btw, I think he's the best player on the Pels already. Ingram is, imo, the new RJ Barrett, who at the beginning of the year everybody says is the best on the team, but who, it will be made clear soon, is not.
