Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
Are you worried about his slow release though? Even in college it looked pretty slow and seemed like he was pushing it - didn’t matter cause he was hitting at such a high clip but that was one of the reasons I wasn’t a fan since he didn’t get his shot off that quickly.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
Well he obviously shot lights out in the pre draft workout for the Celtics to pick him and for Ainge to say he already might be the best shooter on the team. It’s definitely just an adjustment period right now and more mental issues I would say. Was never a huge fan of the pick but hope his shot can start to fall more consistently

I know his shot was never "fast" I just don't see it as slow. BTW, Duncan Robinson has the fastest release of anyone not named Curry. But if you look at his college game tape with Michigan, you will see that D Robinson has in fact increased his speed in shooting. Not easy, but nothing I would be worried about with Nesmith if the coaches felt the need to improve.

Might be the type of guy who needs to be on the floor more to get into a rhythm. Not someone who can give you a quick 10 pts in some random six 2nd qtr minutes. Way too early to count him out.

Definitely can be worked on. Tatum already sped up his release from the time he was drafted. But that's something players work on in a full offseason, not in the midst of the season. Nesmith didn't have much time to work on anything after he got drafted. It was training camp soon after due to the weird covid season.

He will be fine with more in game reps. I truly believe that. I also wanted Bane for similar reasons.
I'd be more concerned with Romeo as he has never shown strong catch and shoot abilities in HS/College or the NBA as of yet. Not that he can't improve anything as well. Just think it may take him longer.
On the discussion of shooting, I do believe Grant Williams has very good mechanics. His problems are all mental. Not all players are mentally strong with shooting. sometimes mentality/confidence can get worse. If a year from now Nesmith is still shooting the same, I would be worried.
That's comforting re: Nesmith. I'm not as concerned about Romeo because that's not his game anyway. He's a slasher. I want him eating at the rim and if he develops into a consistent jump shooter all the better. I think it's basically the inverse with Nesmith. We need him to be a floor spreader who will also make teams pay when they want to double the Jays. Anything else is gravy.
I know it may sound crazy, but if Nesmith can be that consistent sharpshooter, I can see him on the floor to end games particularly on final possessions coming out of timeouts. He can either glue a defender to the corner while we let Tatum operate or knock down the dagger type shot Smart came up short against the Spurs with.

Could it be that he's overthinking (gears turning too much) on the spot-ups vs on the quick-fire coming off screens just letting it fly and letting your natural mechanics takeover without thinking. I know I'd like to see more stuff with him on the run. He needs to be involved more in those DHO's.
and that's "MR. Irrelevant" to you!!

Seriously, I'm not worried about his shooting speed. He's not Duncan Robinson, but he's also not one of those guys who carefully considers all sides of the issue before deciding whether to launch a shot.

definitely yes for the Bold. and you are right, coming off the screens would be great and that is what I see on tapes in college. many decent shooters can not come off screens, but Nesmith seemingly excelled with that.
I have not given up on this year, But after a summer to really work and a training camp with the coaches and players to set up plays etc.. Nesmith may really blow up..
Am I allowed to bump this thread a year from now to say I told you so to the non believers??

would rather chose the word "expected" over crazy. Not a matter of If but when it happens. sometimes this season hopefully and always next year is what I "expect"

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
I was hoping Nesmith would start this year. That was obviously a pipe dream WRT the start of the season. But by the end? Who the **** knows with this team this season. While admitting I don't know when it will happen, I think there's no reason not to expect him to become a starting-level NBA player that can compliment the Js very well, i.e. feast off of open looks that they generate. If the team doesn't see it happening this season and wants to bring in an older bench gunner for a year or two, fine. But long-term Nesmith has a clearly defined and important role here!

I like Nesmith. Just give him time. Once the game slows down for him he'll be lights out.

Would be nice to not have him have 2 straight DNP so you can trot out Javonte and Semi. Why not play Nesmith and give him a chance? You’re already down 3 rotation players!

Re: Welcome to Boston, Aaron Nesmith!
I presume most here did not play college ball and no one played NBA, let alone become a lottery pick. But try to follow what might be going through Nesmith's mind right now. He was drafted for a playoff team in the lottery. Was expected to be a knock down shooter.
Obviously missed out on a real training camp. But non the less, barley played, and when he did, rarely played any meaningful minutes the first month of the year. Did manage to have a couple of games in which he gave himself/Us some hope with some pretty good shooting and play. Then he has a game and missed his 2 shots and doesn't play again for a few games. Making matters worse, he sat behind players who are struggling mightily with both shooting and defense for most of the year.
My point? Unless you are some sort of extreme-confident freak shooter like Larry Bird/Reggie Miller, you will be affected by "lack of confidence" Stevens is funneling at you. It is only normal. Stevens absolutely is NOT building up any short term confidence. I only hope there aren't any long term lasting effects.
How you coach someone. Especially a young player matters so much.
