Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XL
I would think that after Feb 20, when Bertans and Lopez are eligible for a trade, we may see some activity.
If, by Feb 20, Westbrook continues play like his former self, then keeping him, and keeping Beal would be the plan. That makes everyone else expendable in trade to get a very good or great front court player. Swing for the fences.

He's been disapointing, but he's only 20. Maybe it's a issue of teams being a better fit for both him and TBJ?
Bertans + Brown + 2nds for Reddick + Hayes sounds ok.

Still gotta keep in mind - we're a last place team - in the entire NBA. We're not going to stay there with Beal and Westbrook, but we're not going to magically turn into a good team - with them. Trading Beal not only gets us a bunch of assets, but it increases the chances of our pick being a top 3 pick - no guarantees. But we won't pick 9th again. I don't want to learn to make glass sculptures like Bill Murray in... Groundhog Day.

Why do we want Redick?

I don't think WCS is enough of an upgrade over Lopez/Len/Wagner to be worth anything at all.
I agree that WCS is not a major upgrade, but is there any C/big defensive PF that is:
Youngish (between 23-26)
Fairly productive (15ish PER)
Healthy
that someone would trade for Brown/Bonga/2nds?
What about Jaxson Hayes?

I'd probably trade Brown for Hayes, particularly if Brooks won't play Brown. Hayes was a pretty bad rebounder in his rookie year, but he's doing a bit better in limited minutes this season. He is so skinny, that a longer adjustment time to the NBA would be understandable.

Hayes is unplayable. Don’t let his decent looking counting stats fool you. He’s awful.
I’d much rather give Brown Jr more opportunities.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XL
My personal opinion is that this board discusses a lot of options to upgrade the C position defensively, but the real problem with the wizards roster is the draft mistakes regarding the PF position. Right now, a couple of the top defensive PFs in the NBA are Tillman and Clarke, both players that the wizards could’ve picked but did not. Hachimura has shown absolutely nothing and is an awful defender and rebounder.
If you ask me, Wagner has been outstanding this season and is showing that he is a really promising young player. We have this perception that he’s a bad defender, but he’s actually been really good on that end this season.
I would be looking to upgrade from Hachimura if I was the GM. If they would’ve simply drafted Tillman in the 2020 draft and picked up Wagner’s option, we would be in a really good spot.

Hachimura has been disapointing...
Avdija after a nice start has tailed off. Starting to wonder if teams have him scouted and figured out more or less, and we'll see if he's able to adjust.
Troy Brown Jr has been a total disapointment. And so has Bonga. And needless to say so has Bertans.
The player that really showed he took a step forward was Thomas Bryant, but then he got injured!!!!
But I agree, I think we were all hoping Hachimura would take the same kind of step forward we saw from Bryant, but he has so far been a dud. Hopefully he will emerge now after some health related set backs.

Way to completely miss the point, Nat.
Tell me, who was a better NBA player? Was it
Ryan Anderson?
Or was it one of:
Michael Beasley?
O.J. Mayo?
Joe Alexander?
D.J. Augustin?
Brook Lopez?
Jerryd Bayless?
Jason Thompson?
Brandon Rush?
Anthony Randolph?
Robin Lopez?
Marreese Speights?
Roy Hibbert?
Javale McGee?
J.J. Hickson?
Alexis Ajinca?
That's 15 of the top 20 picks. Most, though not all, were terrible, & none of them as good as the #21 pick, Ryan Anderson. I didn't list Eric Gordon, who was the #7 pick, b/c someone will like him ("he can get his own shot"), but I could have, b/c Anderson was a better player than Gordon.
In fact, of the next 5 guys taken after Anderson -- Courtney Lee, Kosta Koufos, Serge Ibaka, Nic Batum & George Hill -- at least 3 were also better than any of the above list. & the other 2 were better than most of them.

Will be interesting, but I definitely get the sense that the Knicks turned over their management to a crew whose M.O. for the rebuild seems to be: "No stupid".
If that's accurate, they aren't in on any of the short term gains, long term stupid type deals people have floated.

Agreed.
The other thing is that there is too much uncertainty in pick positioning to make a trade for a 2021 pick now. I'm with Dat2U in that we ought to wait for the offseason so we will know exactly what we are trading for. I would only trade Beal now if it was a godfather offer.
The only godfather offer I see being offered mid-season would be the best conceivable package Golden State could put together: - Wiseman, the Minny pick, 2021 1st, 2026 1st, 2027 swap, 2028 1st.
I'd take Simmons plus 2 picks or MPJ plus 2 picks, but I don't see those teams going all in like that right now.
Does it worry you that compensation might be weakened from teams getting only one season of Beal instead of nearly 2? I'm nervous about that. I wish they hadn't made the lottery so much more idiotic a few years ago. It's hard enough to contend in the NBA with players preferences for non-tax state's or big cities w/established winning pedigree, screwing w/the lottery made it much harder for weaker teams w/less ability to sign FA's to have quick turn arounds.

That's a factor, but not a very big one IMO. Anyone who trades for Beal is going to do so under the expectation that they will resign him.

Watch the Wizards will get the #1 pick in the draft and get it taken away for Ujiri tampering.

How about davis B to the NYK for DET 2021 second and the rights back for Sannon.
That picks gonna be top 5 in the second round and Sannon I still think has potential at 21. Davis would help them with shooting too.

Now is not the time to be trying to trade Bertans. Nobody wants him.

Honestly, this is sort of a cop out. The fundamental problem with bad teams is that they have bad GMs and bad owners, and the fans and investors refuse to hold them accountable, not that they can't luck into #1 picks. The Timberwolves drafted picked in the top 5 5 times in 10 years, with another #6 in the mix. They still suck. Meanwhile the Spurs keep finding quality players at like pick 26 or whatever. The Process worked in Philly because Hinkie is a good GM, and the ownership was on board until the NBA unethically pressured the 76ers to win now and forced out Hinkie.

There will never be a "good time" to trade Bertans. He's such a hot/cold player that when he's on, every team wants him, but when he's off, no one wants anything to do with him.
However, I still think a team like the Lakers or the celtics (actual good organizations) would still give up something for him. I've seen fans of other teams still show interest on the trade boards (not that it matters, but at least the perception that he's a deadeye shooter is still in tact).

If he is worth anything now, he will be worth more when he is in shape and actually playing like the Bertans of last year. Now is not the time to trade him.

That's my point though. If he's playing like the Bertans of last year, he's a steal and you don't trade that guy.
