Should Magic consider signing Isaiah Thomas?

Post#1 » by MasterGMer » Tue Feb 2, 2021 9:47 pm

Isaiah Thomas is headlined for Team USA for the FIBA Americup. He is trying to prove he can play at the highest level. The last NBA team he played was 2019 Wizards, but later he was traded to LAC. He was averaging 12 PPG. And he didn't play in the NBA since.

Now with AG and Fultz out, we have Zero PG depth. The saddest thing is that it is not a short period of time.

Should we consider Isaiah Thomas to be our back up PG? He won't cost us that much money and he just needs an opportunity.

There are also other FA PGs available like Jeremy Lin, who is playing in the G league now, and Shabazz Napier. Both could be an option

He'd be a great tank commander, so I am in favour. He can't score efficiently anymore and he's a complete disaster on D (the Wizards had a 120 DRTG with him on the court last season).

for what reason?

Whats the upside?
We win enough meaningless games to draft 9th? to stunt cole's development? to prevent us from seeing if we have anything in bone?

Honestly there is nothing good that could come from signing him

If you're going to take a flyer on a "maybe" or a G leaguer, make it a 22 year old who's 6'3+...this is only about next year and beyond

Thomas made sense with Gordon - a bench upgrade. Now - nope.

Let's flip this around though, if you were Thomas would you sign with the Magic?

No, there is a reason he is not playing basketball.
