Re: Masai Ujiri
It's kind of funny right after the Wizards have this big win there's all these reports about Beal doesn't want a trade, and the Wizards are planning this big Ujiri coup.

Re: Masai Ujiri
We would be an attractive destination for him, IF we had a boatload of picks with which he can perform magic. That only happens with a Beal trade.

I'm guessing that having Beal on the roster when, and if, he becomes the Zards GM appeals to Masai. That way he can make the call as to whether to trade Beal...and what the Zards should want in exchange for BB if he is traded.

I agree this seems a bit "too good to be true," but if it were to happen, this could be a really good first step to giving the Wizards some stability as a franchise. If Beal is happy in DC and he is willing to sign an extension for 3+ years, all the Wizards would need was a coach who could put it all together on the court.

Ujiri could have interest in the Zards job for a few reasons. The first, of course, is money and a possible ownership stake.
Then there’s his interest and role in promoting bball in the international community, especially in Africa. DC is a great base for that kind of work. And then there’s the fact that his wife grew up in PG County...and probably still has family and roots in the area.
On top of that, Masai strikes me as the type that would welcome the challenge of turning a franchise around.
To be sure, Zards!
Only... those were the reasons people thought he'd be interested in 2019. So... "if he wasn't interested in Spring 2019, why would he be interested now?"
Obviously, neither you nor I have any idea whether he has any interest at all in running the Wizards. Be great if he did!
What I don't see is why he'd have more interest now than he did then. If anything, he'd have had more to work with & a longer runway back then right when Ernie was fired.

Increases Ujiri’s leverage. Demoralizes and paralyzes the current FO.
Perhaps this is another classic Ted distraction. Don’t look over here at this dumpster fire I started.
Probably Masai and his agent are leaking it.
Could it be a negotiating tactic for getting extended with Toronto?

Re: Masai Ujiri
Can someone breakdown/differentiate the moves made by Masai vs Webster. Seems like a lot of the great moves made were in recent years like Boucher/Davis/Thomas/Flynn
The way I’m reading this is that it would be a total organizational shift to ditch all of the prehistoric thinking and to value analytics and play young/unproven players because they are actually good at basketball

Is this resignation and internalized inferiority after decades of suckitude?
Or do they have reasons for feeling/thinking this?

Perhaps Teddy has come to the realization that status quo will not get the team there, and a change is needed IF we are to build around Beal.

Saw a lot of reasoning, wizards keeping the president of basketball operations position open, the rumors a couple off-seasons ago regarding Masai/wizards, and Masai refusing to sign an extension which has created an awkward situation. A lot of them think current GM Bobby Webster is in line for a promotion into the presidency role with the Raps. They also think Masai moving on is just inevitable as he has accomplished everything he wanted to in Toronto.
There were other personal reasons like Masai’s off the court social activism and friendship with the administration in Washington, wife’s background in DC. There was actually a ton of reasoning and pages and pages off posts on the topic. Seems like the expectation more than just a random rumor.
I think there’s actually a really good chance that this happens, which would be awesome. The best thing Ted can do for the franchise is let someone else do everything.

Interesting comments from Masai. I think this bodes well for us.
