Available backup pgs?

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Fri Feb 5, 2021 8:03 pm

I'm by no means looking for some stud. I just want someone who can take Joseph's place the rest of the season and isn't on a huge long term deal.

What's available?

Bjelica (expiring)
Parker (expiring)
Joseph (2.5 mil guarantee next year)
Glenn Robinson III (Expiring)
Justin James
2021 Kings 2nd
2021 Memphis 2nd
2021 Lakers 2nd
2022 Kings 2nd
2022 Less favorable of Detroit/Chicago 2nd

Using some combo of this poo poo pile. What is the best the Kings could get in terms of a backup pg?

Are you willing to take on some long-term money, or are you looking for strictly guys on expiring deals?

If things continue this way for the Hawks, I can see them looking for a BU PG. Rondo and Goodwin have been horrible. That was apparent to everyone during last nights Jazz game.

Bucks should do Augustin for Bjelica. Would make it easier for them to play Bryn Forbes because they wouldn't be hopelessly undersized with their bench guards.

Sato should be available just for cap relief next year. Maybe a bad 2nd to make them feel better

Parker and a 2nd for Ish Smith?

Expirings and some 2nds for Lonzo?

It just depends. If the player is a long term fit that makes sense with the team, I wouldn't mind taking on a long term deal.

I think we are looking for a real backup pg though. Someone like Bledsoe doesn't make sense. Fox is getting his raise this summer, Buddy is being paid 20+ million. Tyrese is absolutely killing it.

If the money is long term, id prefer it to be a legit fit and someone making under 8-10 million max. If its just a 1 year deal. Hell they could be making 30 million. As long as we could match with Joseph/Bjelica/Parker it doesn't matter.

Augustin is interesting. He's a far better shooter than Joseph which should help the spacing. Don't love it, but id consider as his last year is only a partial.

Sato checks some boxes. He strikes me just as a better/bigger Joseph. Id probably give Joseph/2nd this year to make it happen. They eat that 2.5 mil and get a 2nd for doing so.

Lonzo would work, but do you think hes that cheap? Parker + 2nds gets the job done?

From an outsider that has watched maybe 1.5 Kings games this year so far, is one of Fox or Haliburton not on the floor at all times? Doing that means Joseph is relegated to third string duties and you can look for a wing instead.

I wonder if you could swap Joseph and a 2nd or two for Delon Wright. He's a better two-way guy than Joseph, isn't too old, his future salary fits your margins; Pistons still get a depth guard back in Joseph and can cut him next year and keep whatever sweeteners the teams agree on.

I try and mentally block him out, but duh this might have been the most obvious of candidates.

I wanted this when Delon was in Dallas. When I checked last he was having a solid solid year in Detroit. Is he a candidate to be moved?

Based on what I've heard from most Knicks fans, and what I've gotten to see of Elfrid this year... I'm not sure id even give that LA 2nd

Sato and Wright were the guys I had in mind, they seem to be getting some discussion already

This is what I was hoping for. Doesn't seem like Walton trusts Hali to be the only ball handler on the court. I can understand bringing him along slowly. I think the guy we trade for has to be a ball handler, a combo guard would be fine.

Most knicks fan is interesting bar to use.

Elfrid at least is better than Cojo.

The above aside, the second is for the couple of $million saved.

that makes sense. the multiple ball handlers thing is going well for us. Sometimes feels overcrowded back there, but if you're going to be over-saturated anywhere, might as well be having too many players capable of handling the ball.

Exactly. And for a team like Sac that really had only 1.5 capable ones last year, having 2 is a joy. If we could replace Joseph with another capable one I think we would be in great shape.

Charlotte has lots of guys who can do it, Graham, Ball, Hayward, Rozier. I wish the Kings had that luxury.

What about D. Rose?

Edit:

I'd love to land Bjelica from SAC and Ellington from DET using TT as the salary ballast so we don't have to eat into our big TPE. Would pay whatever seconds needs to get it done.
