Likes like Gibbons are going to be the norm, guys who are borderline AAAA players who are trying to make it to the bigs for good. Especially hitting arbitration and their big FA contract. That's money that sets you for life. PED also help aid in muscle recovery, mostly from work outs, but the lingering affects of being old certainly would fall into that category. Guys like Schilling, Johnson, and Clemens fall into that category. As much as it pains me to say it, I fear Pedro may have fallen into it too but he fits the profile. Small guy who is a flame thrower and puts a lot of wear and tear on his body (so extra help recovering is needed). He gutted his shoulder in the 99 playoff game against Cleveland (for which he will always have my love and respect for) yet was lights out for 2000 and for the part of 2001 he pitched. Duquette nearly ended his career in 2001 by making him pitch with a bum arm at the end of the season. He then goes on to pitch brilliantly again from 2002-2004 with some small hiccups in between. Gammons came out and said there were reports that his labrum was 98% torn so even if that number is exaggerated, we all know his shoulder was bad, as we saw last season with the surgery. The hell Petey put that arm through must have been out of this world and it makes me sad to think he may have needed PED to pitch as brilliantly as he did.
As for position players, your tweeners like Jason Tyner, Kevin Millar, Mark Bellhorn, and Shane Spencer are guys I'd expect to see. Injury plagued guys as well. I would not be surprised to hear Rocco Baldelli's name come out in the next year or two if he stays healthy. mahalo

Shame on you for even mentioning his name. He's just a nice Jewish boy trying to make a name for himself.

Jim Thome
Now that you mentioned him, i'll agree. For a long time, i have had suspect of Thome. I saw some clips of his first couple years in the bigs. The guy was rail thin, not much power. I know, i know, good old boy, nice guy and all, but from experience i can tell you...country boys come to the party too.
