His contract isn't terrible since he can be removed in 2023 , and declined last year option, but in context it was rushed and poor decision to resign guard who can't shoot basketball and also isn't proactive and elite playmaker. Fultz never showed ability to be lead guard, his floor vision is limited and his reads are mediocre. Most of the time he gets himself going against unathletic slow-footed guards because he is bulky 6'3-6'4 guy with strong body, not because he outskills them. Not suprising his best games this year were against Washington, when Ish Smith (5'9? ) and Raul Neto were guarding him. Both were so much smaller he would just owerpower them.
i think the contract was, as many, due to potential. They looked at the film of him at Washington where he was the lead guard and could shoot and score at all levels. which is a little surprising because the front office doesnt seem to take many other risks
