Re: NBA MVP Discussion 20/21
Plus-minus based stats like Raptor seem to be slightly overrating Kawhi since he sat out that Dallas 50-point loss. His main problem is that Paul George has arguably been better than him. Better box stats and ahead in some advanced stats like rpm.

lebron has been the clear-cut mvp for years so let's see what narrative they can come up with now to give it to someone else other than the best player in the world. triple-double westbrick got one, playoff choker harden got one and another playoff choker in giannis got the last two who himself said that lebron is still the best player in the game today. maybe it's time to give it to jokic or luka to keep it interesting.

By clear-cut do you mean best player or play that had the best season? I agree he has been the best player the past decade, but he can only blame himself for not going all out in the regular season if he cares about mvp.

This, there's no argument in mind for regular season Lebron as MVP over the last two seasons when Giannis won. He had an argument going back to 2018 when Harden won his.

Yes. It is amazing how people twist their own narrative. Past 7 seasons it's been about how LeBron saves himself for playoffs and doesn't play hard on regular season and now he has been robbed of MVPs? Doesn't work like that...

Looks to be the same this season, even though he wants mvp, his mins and stats have been down.

We've never seen anyone do what he's doing.
He's leading the best team in the nba and a top 10 offense, averaging 25/7.8/7.7 shooting 60 TS% while being a plus defender. That's great, but not close to what you're saying. Excellent all-around season (scoring/rebounds/creation/defense) but it's not like he's leading an historically good offense, or like he's playing at an amazing two way level (plus defense, not all-nba or dpoy level), or scoring at an amazing level, or assisting at an amazing level. He also has the best team in the nba and a perfect fit, between a superstar teammate (ad), a secondary playmaker (schroeder), spacing, great defense, so he doesn't have to do too much on that end (even tho I give him props for his defense these past two years, still easily a plus on d, after a very positive 2019-20 defensive rs, and an all-defensive level 2020 postseason.

Re: NBA MVP Discussion 20/21
I'm moving jokic 2nd now after this loss, so my top 4 rn embiid jokic lebron leonard. Jokic still easily the best individually (0 games missed, crazy numbers, centerpiece of a jokiccentric offense that's ranked top 5) but I rank him #2 now because 12-10 ain't it when other candidates are first and second seeds.
Also about this game. Another god level offensive performance by jokic, 50/8/12/1/3 on 69% TS. Crazy part is that at the end of the third quarter I think he had 31/8/11 and I tought it wasn't an above average game for him, like a 45th percentile game for him, not that he was playing bad but he hadn't hit any three, not enough popping for him until then and he hadn't really hit his usual crazy middies etc. I tought he was playing average and he had those high numbers because murray is out. Then he started going ham to try to cut the lead. He also played 41 minutes.
But his defense was really disgusting today, like flat out horrible (despite the 4 stocks). Only + is that he wasn't slacking on defensive transitions, which is not a given for an heavy center like him, other than that, terrible, terrible defense.
Also (unrelated to mvp sorry). Michael Porter should have stepped up today without murray and gary harris but he didn't do it at all, he wasn't there. Fox really improved his shooting this year, and Haliburton is a very good rookie, great shooter and can do a bit of everything

Huh? We’ve seen quite a few seasons better than 2021 LeBron. Unless you’re referring to him doing it at his age, which shouldn’t be a factor in the MVP race at all.

Also, with KD and PG adding missed games, we have a very definite top 5 of Jokic, Embiid, Lebron, Kawhi and Giannis

It has been consensual understanding that you cant get MVP with another MVP caliber player on your team. The numbers are shallow, everyone next to AD will get basically 7+ assists for free. LeBron plays literally no defense especially on help, he just stands around and allows guys to blow by without even stepping in - the reason the Lakers still have a huge defense is only AD. That is his self declared "coasting" so there really is no case for him to be MVP at this point. Cant do it all, use the coasting excuse when losing and then pretend you're going all out when talking MVP.
Jokic should be on top, but then KD has shown to be key for the Nets. If they end up on top of the east he is just as valid as a candidate. Embiid, Kawhi also above LeBron. Not sure about Giannis at this point, but we have to stick to the condition for MVP - its a regular season award, its not based on what guys did in the past, or in the post season. In the reg season Giannis is a monster, on both ends. So yeah probably above LeBron as well. If AD gets back to last seasons' shape even he should be above LeBron because he actually plays defense 48 min and not only for 1 or 2 marquee TV moments.

It's pretty clear you don't watch Laker games so please don't comment. That is a load of dribble you just posted.

Its also pretty clear that you are a lakers guy who cant stay neutral when commenting on lakers. Casual take but i'll let it go since youre just a fan. In your own interest i hope you've been a lakers fan for more than two seasons...

LeBron play no defense
https://www.nba.com/stats/player/2544/by-position/?Season=2020-21&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&PerMode=PerGame
And you should know that LBJ has at least 6 assists per game since his 2nd year in the NBA, it's crazy how salted you are by his career!
