Re: Thoughts on Nash so far?
Perhaps it's the wrong fit after getting Harden. Nets have 3 offensive geniuses points aren't going to be a problem, but based off performance defense definitely is. I mean there is still half a season to get everything together but right now the defense is just non existent.
Part of it is personnel, Shumpert will help, Pelle will help but defense is a team concept. Guys gotta know where to be and who to cover for. It's not hard to put a body on somebody and not give them easy 2nd chance points but you need to want to do it
But Nets arent gonna fire Nash in his first season unless if something catastrophic happens so it's ride or die for this season. You just gotta hope KD and Kyrie as a multiple time champion can get the message through to the team to D up when it counts

Honestly think he’s the wrong coach at the wrong time. You have a win now team with a win later coach. They play zero defense, not shocking. They needed a defense oriented coach. He doesn’t seem to know when the use time outs. So far the offensive plays in Last second shot situations aren’t working, with three clutch players on the team that’s not acceptable. I don’t like his line up changes. I don’t like how long he waits to make a change, last game against the wiz he waited until almost the entire lead was gone before bringing back Durant or Irving.
He has a lot to learn. Can the nets afford to wait for him to learn.

I think this is really on point.
We are running the offense/lineups as if we have 1 star and need to maximize that star going small and spacing the floor. But we have 3 stars, all of whom are elite from three. All of whom can create their own shot. one of whom is 7 feet. We dont need to "maximize" that by going small or playing 5-out. Like you can put me and MDB next to that trio and they are going to be a top 10 offense.
Nash is hesitant or at times unwilling to go away form Harris and Green. Even if guys like Jordan are playing well. We have seen him even keep brown on the bench in situations where we need stops.
Put 2 defenders next to the big three. maybe we dont score 145 points. maybe we "only" score 125-130. but the D gets better. The rebounding gets better.
One thing no one is talking about is this:
-The nets going 5 out makes us our elite offense slightly better.
-Forcing" opponents to go small and "go 5 out makes their marginal offenses significantly better
Make other teams stay big to limit what they can do offensively and keep a big on the floor for Harden/Kyrie to abuse in switches.
But Nets arent gonna fire Nash in his first season unless if something catastrophic happens so it's ride or die for this season. You just gotta hope KD and Kyrie as a multiple time champion can get the message through to the team to D up when it counts
agree, he would have to quit or force marks hand, which i wouldnt be shocked if he was doing. he knew what he signed up for but maybe Kyrie's hiatus, Harden coming in (which was unexpected) and maybe the team thinking nash is a puppet and going over his head to D'antoni has made him want out.
who knows. either way. Nash is doing a solid job as manager but awful as coach. its hard to hurt your team to the point of losing games as a coach, but he is right on that line

It's 24 games after no real training camp or preseason and then a major trade also KD hadn't played in 18 months and kyrie played 20 games last year there's 49 regular season games left
Let's give it some time

thought this was interesting seems Nash signaled Jeff to go to the other end of the court
He did a good job with timeouts/fouling at end of the game too was a 180 from the Wizards close

I haven't had any major complaints, there are times when he's flubbed others when he's made a good move. As of now I think he's average.

what I find interesting is your crybaby post on the general board title: "why cant the nets blow anyone out"
I'm not sure if your tears go better salty with soy sauce or sweet with a nice fig glaze.
First it was "Kyrie wont accept a secondary role, he will dominate the ball"
then it was "There id only 1 ball, not enough shots to go around"
then it was "lol their D stinks, they cant contend vs real teams"
now its "they cant blow anyone out"
which is even more funny since:
-blowout win by 26 over GS
-Blowout win by 28 over Boston
-Blow out win by 36 over the Jazz
-Blowout win by 16 over philly
-Blowut win by 22 over OKC
Nets are 7-3 since the Harden trade
Nets are 6-1 when the big 3 all play with the 1 loss being a double OT game.
Please dont come here with this "hey this was interesting what nash did blah blah blah" when you are straight up hating on the nets all over the GB with awful hot takes.

Nash continues to be flexible. he made some lazy mistakes again late though.
- up by 4 points
- 32 seconds left
- 2 timeouts
- Stopped ball (inbound situation)
- Clippers ball
This is a no-brainer situation to sub in bruce brown for Harris and go with a situation defensive lineup. like there is no question that this is the move. We are up by 4. if they miss a shot and foul brown immedietly and he misses 2 FTs, its still a 2 posession game where you are defending with your best defenders on the floor.
if the clippers hit a shot, you burn a timeout, which you have ample, and sub harris back in while also advancing the ball to half court
He stuck with Harris, and Paul George hit a 3 after shaking free from him with a weak contest cutting it to a 1 point game.
What makes these mistakes more frustrating is that Nash runs to sub in his stars for the final possesion of every quarter, but ignore the same philospihy on defense.

Re: Thoughts on Nash so far?
Only problem with Nash is defensively. Offensively he’s brilliant and situationally will prove it.
But he took last year 9th ranked defense that was top 10 in keeping points out the paint and destroyed it. Switching is good situationally and ideal to take on the Dubs but we are bleeding points at the basket. Last season they dropped the center and even went under the pick/played off of shooters to make sure the paint was protected and it worked.
There is no reason to die on this switch defense hill. We don’t have the personnel and DJ/Kyrie/Harris already shown they can play in Jacque Vaughn’s defense. It’s also the only time DJ doesn’t look washed. He’s still good as a big body between the ball and the rim trapping and recovery is killing him and the entire team.
If he were to make this change there’s no beating this team. I don’t know why MDA’s switch scheme was so preferred when the Nets defense literally was better.
Logically it even makes sense. This defense sucks, we are skinny besides Harden/Bruce/DJ, we aren’t defensive oriented, we are giving up 50 points in the paint per game and fouling on non helped drives. Teams could hit 20 threes and that’s 60 points. That’s unlikely. Why not simplify the defense. Keep the paint protected, the most efficient shot. Have our guys naturally in rebounding position.
The only benefit of switching now is preparing for when the opportunity occurs that we have to. But faster he realizes that this isn’t the scheme for this team the faster we become the juggernauts we are supposed to be.
Flood Nash DM’s that his assistant had the exact same team without a slew of defenders 9th last season.

This staff as a collective is not good enough... I've seen more wrong than good and believe there hasn't been any change how the players approach the game, defense engagement and rotations.
The offense is an iso offense with sprinkles, constantly being saved by 3 of the top 15 players in the game. There's no creativity which I thought Nash would bring, no push or up tiempo speed which we proved we're better with, horrible adjustments with few improvements time to time.
This is bad.
Steve Kerr inherited a great 3 in GS and had the offense n defense popping every game.
It's frustrating to watch this.

We have statistically the best offense of all time. offensive creativity is not a problem.
We play way too much 5 out. we go 32+ minutes with no shot blocker, rebounder, or rim protection. we would still score 115+ a game if we went big more.
Nash is an awful coach. and you can tell that the team doesnt respect him and doesnt play hard for him. if nash doesnt care why should the players? dude is in way over his head. and he is surrounded by enablers. marks needs to can him. it would look bad optically, but he drastically reduces our title chances.
It doesnt matter how many bigs, rebounders, or wing defenders marks adds. Nash wont play them

Being all time great offensively doesn't correlate to offensive creativity. There's bare minimum of ball movement or motion offense.
It's majority of iso ball or shoot spot up 3... thats not very creative.
Our offense is string when we run 1 5 pick n roll or constantly use our C for easy buckets.
It's back to stand n watch offense for the most part. That drives me insane and shows when our scary 3 ain't winning or lighting it up on isos that there's no alternative.
We don't play up tiempo, honestly ball in hardens hand a lot, good n bad, but we don't run offensively. Where's our pace?
It's an offense severely relying on big games on individual efforts by the scary 3 at the same time.

Yeah. A big reason why Nurse's double/trap of Kyrie and Harden worked was because none of the other guys were coming over to make themselves available for a pass. There were a couple times when Kyrie tried to pass out of it and had the ball tipped to lead to TOs. I just don't trust Nash as a tactician and TBH I don't even trust the rest of this staff either.

He has the three best ISO players of all time. He doesnt need to be creative. Creativity is what you need when you have inefficient chuckers like levert on the floor. You dont need to be created when all-time great scorers have the ball. let them abuse people and dominate offensively. Giving it to shaq and letting him dunk in someones face isnt creative, but its effective.
Our offense with the big 3 has been THE BEST ALL TIME. talking about creativity is nonsense. offense is not even remotely a problem.

You need to play a center to get buckets from your center. Nash doesnt like to play centers

They are always lighting it up on isos.

which is the best possible strategy, since they are the 3 best iso scorers of all time. you dont get super elite players and then do stuff like try and run and gun or post up, or run some kind of motion offense. you clear a side and let them score at will.

It's all game long approach with idol. Thats not sustainable. It's one thing for stretches but the whole game isn't sustainable.
Tonight, harden Irving played, did their isos worked? Nope. Stretches and getting out of jams are where we need that iso ball to prevail but whole game we need to play bball. Constantly relying on certain conditions or concepts to prevail every game isn't going winnable strategy.
And that's just on offense lol

It is sustainable. weve done it all year, we will continue to do it all year. we will have an off night ever 10 or 12 games. but we will do this all year and all playoffs.

We scored 117 points tonight. offense was not an issue. if nash played jordan we may have scored even more as he is more likely to finish off a double team feed on a dunk then bruce brown is on a floater.
if you think having the 3 best scorers in the league, and then going 100% against what they do best, you are dumber then nash. which is hard to do. not going iso with those 3 is like asking shaq to sit in the corner and take catch and shoot threes

I agree our offense could be more creative. Yes its all time great when we have the Big 3 out there.
But when its just 2/3 it doesn't look nearly as good. With 2 Superstars we should still have one of the best offenses in the league.
His small ball lineups are really whats killing us. We have serious rebounding and rim protection issues every game and he does nothing about it.
Play Jordan more. Play Pelle. Do something. Jeff Green at C for 35 minutes is not the move.

Re: Thoughts on Nash so far?
I'm not going off the deep end yet but we don't seem to have a plan if things aren't clicking with the big three in a game. The last couple of games Kyrie has turned it on to get us the win but last night neither him nor Harden seemed to get going. My concern is that Nash did nothing to stop the bleeding really. Nash doesn't seem to react quickly to what is playing out in front of him. In the 4th quarter of a couple of games we have had a lead but the other team are clawing it back but he keeps DJ on the bench rather than add him to strengthen the defence and next thing its a 2/3 point game and i'm biting my fingernails. I don't know if he doubts himself or believes that the big three will win out every game and we can outscore anyone but I think he needs to be able to adjust the team if it isn't going that way.

Its getting pretty riddiculous at this point. Vaughn or D'antoni need to take the reigns and nash needs to do the right thing and step down. He just isnt suited to be an NBA coach. allergic to timeouts, refuses to challenge obvious calls that result in points + fouls on our stars, doesnt EVER stick up for his players with the officials, glues guys who played well early to the bench in the second half.
Like seriously dude GTFO this team

Nash just isn't going to cut it. Marks has done well for the most part, but I think he may have screwed up with the most important part of a championship caliber team and that's with the coach. There's some positives with Nash, but the negatives just stand out too much. And there really isn't much progress.
And TBH I'm not really feeling MDA either.
