Rose to Knicks: your take?

Rose-Coloured Glasses: Knicks win. Rose is still productive and the cost was meaningless.
11
27%
Every Rose Has Its Thorn: Pistons win. This team isn't going anywhere so selling off expiring vets for look-see prospects and 2nds is the right move.
9
22%
Everything's Coming Up Roses: both teams win. Knicks get a needed talent upgrade and the rebuilding Pistons get future assets.

44%
Rose to the Challenge: both teams lose. Knicks shouldn't be giving up assets to satisfy their coach's man-crush, and the Pistons could at least have gotten a *little* more.

in this case it appears negotiations are ongoing so Shams' source is telling him the parts he can confirm.

Seems to happen a lot. How can anyone know Rose is dealt if negotiations are ongoing? They could fall through if not finalized, no?

Yes which is why Shams noted that the deal was not officially done. But generally when both teams and the player want the deal to happen, it will ultimately happen particularly since Rose is a relatively low value piece so any value disagreements by definition will have to be minor.

Shams ran with it before its done because breaking stories is a huge part of his brand. Anytime he totally scoops Woj it benefits him.

Looks like it's the Charlotte SRP and Smith for Rose.

Crud return.

Yeah if that's the return this looks like Weaver trying to create some goodwill by steering a veteran to his desired destination. Not the worst thing. His predecessor is the one who failed to deal Rose last deadline when they could have gotten more.

Weaver is by far, the worst GM in the league. I have no idea how this guy has a job.

He was seen as a rising star for years in OKC. I'm not at all surprised someone finally gave him a job. His first off-season was uh odd to say the least.

If Grant is as valuable as some say; wouldn't it have been a great offseason, even if all the smaller moves were head scratching?

Yes.

I don't think Grant is as valuable as some say. But I'm not ready to write Weaver off. I think the Kennard transaction even with the 4 2nds added in was a good one as well.

But that doesn't change that a lot of the other stuff was just odd.

Grant and Bey are the only positive things he did. But to acquire Bey he paid an insane price (Kennard and 4 GOOD 2nds and he took on McGruder's dead money).

He did a pick swap with Houston and took on Ariza's dead money, eating our raw cap space.

Then he Let Wood Go and Wood before the Injury was probably going to be an all NBA player, he was the 3rd best center in the league.

He reached big time to get Isaiah Steward at #16, he's an energetic big, solid off the bench but that's about it. He's all energy and no skills at all.

He drafted a big bust at #7 in Killian Hayes.

Gave up almost 4 mil in raw cap space to acquire the #38 pick, and draft a bad player.

He also traded to acquire Delon Wright, who's meh at best.

Then the whole waive and stretch pathetic joke he did to acomodate his stuff. And sign ok players in Plumlee/Josh Jackson/Jahlil Okafor/Wayne Ellington.

He signed a scrub 2nd round pick to a 3 years guaranteed money...

And the (Please Use More Appropriate Word) donated Bruce Brown for Brooklyn and got nothing back.

Anyone with a minimum IQ would've paid Wood, and he is as good as Grant, and since everything else he did was awful, he is a complete joke as a GM.

Now, if we had Grant AND Wood AND Haliburton, then he would've been competent, nothing else would matter.

I feel like they missed boat on trading him at the deadline last year. If Marcus Morris got a 1st Rose surely could have gotten one.

100%

And I don't get this from the Knicks perspective, this is just going take minutes from their young player (especially Quickley). They should be trading away their senior players not getting more, are they going to sacrifice development to get knocked out in 4 games by whoever is the 1st seed.

Yup. Especially not from the Knicks.

I'm not sold Rose ever had 1st round value, so I cannot fault Detroit for getting a mid 2nd.

I don't see how Morris sets the Rose market in any way. He is a much more useful player who provided something very specific the Clippers wanted -- another big body to help defend Lebron and to take him away from teams who wanted him to defend Kawhi.

Rose is a dime a dozen backup scoring PG with a big name.

Firstly, if Quickly keeps playing the way he's playing they aren't going to keep him on the bench. They'll find minutes for him even if they have to put him at the 2. As for player development, while I see your point I could also argue that having a competent point guard lead the offense and going through a playoff race when the games really matter can do much for a players development as well. A lot of bad habits can be developed if the games don't matter. Players might fall in love with stat stuffing or not put as much effort in.

Detroit likely could have gotten a mid-second and a bad second from another team, but there is value in facilitating trades that send players where they prefer to go.

Seems like DET is doing a favor for Rose, and I don’t have a problem with that.

DET is showing that they will listen and make moves to help players have the careers they want. Detroit will need all the help they can get to attract free agents, and I think showing that your front office will work with players may have as much value as that 2nd.

At least Detroit can sell it as getting a former lottery pick in Smith along with the 2nd. I'm not sure there is truly a much better return than this out there so Detroit seems to have made the best out of a bad situation.

Personally I think Detroit should have tried to add a little extra value and get Robinson instead. They could use a center to balance out their roster. :D
