This is a message to RJ

I get it's annoying if we look at Payton, but I don't think every word out of a coaches mouth should be looked at as if they are gold standard statements that apply to the whole team.

I'm annoyed at IQ and RJ not getting minutes but it's just possible cutting guys minutes when they don't execute helps young players develop. Meaning, there are multiple paths that are used to develop players and teams use most of them.

Paytons minutes are maddening but I can try to see the flip side for the org.

It wasn’t a message to RJ , that answer came in reply to a question of what Obi has to do to get more minutes in crunch time, basically Thibs said he likes what he sees from him in games and he’s working hard in practice, he’s still learning to know where to be on the floor and understand matchups defensively.

Still sort of same concept though

Yeah if that was true, Payton would be getting DNPs.

Snake oil salesman.

It's self-defeating having garbage rent-a-vets eke out wins(mostly losses) at the expense of young guys with a future here.

So either Quickley loses minutes, or Rivers. But if Rose is supposed to be the focal point of the second unit, then IQ is done.

I agree with your post and agree it’s the same concept, but most are taking the quote out of context to mean about a particular player or favorite player not getting minutes , just providing more context to the quote.

Toppin would have 30 points with someone who knows how to throw a decent job.

True, but that's only because they know the Knicks have no one else on the roster to be concerned about. It's not like IQ is Dame Lillard or something.

Miami knew if they took out IQ, the Knicks couldn't do a damn thing. Get used to this happening more and more. That's if Rose doesn't take all of IQ's minutes.

thibs is extra hard on young players and mostly over defense. i guess he thinks he's teaching them that way. maybe he feels the older guys are what they are so he doesn't hold them to the same standard. not fair but it is what it is.

I want Kenny Atkinson

less than 2 months into the Thibs-era and I already hate him. and this was so predictable. he hasn't changed! we all knew going in he liked his vets and he'd play them big minutes. and now he's bringing back his pal DRose who is a shell of his former self just cuz they have a pre-existing relationship

the few extra wins we have rn are not worth it IMO. I'd rather have a coach like Kenny Atkinson who can develop young talent while playing them

Wow did Topps really only play 9 minutes? He was noticeable in there, felt like at least 17 minutes. Way to maximize your chance rook.

The irony is that Thibs might use Quickley as a floor spacer for Rose, when we could've done that with RJ running the PNR to begin with. Just further going away from our best long-term interests.
