More than pleasantly surprised by Biden. He has learned the lessons of the past and is moving his legislation forward with our without the Rs. He reaches out his hand to pull them onboard the train but he makes it clear, the train is leaving the station.

Solid action on COVID. Solid action on climate change.

Where are those that said he had Alzheimer's? With respect to Carter, Clinton and Obama - they have nothing over him thus far.

Several bits of good news
VA to end death penalty and legalize weed.
Fox cancels Lou Dobbs.

Biden is benefitting from his experiences as Obama's VP. If he was president in 2008, he probably would have tried, like Obama, to work with the Republicans. Now we know it's a totally futile effort. The objective of the R leadership is to do whatever possible to make a D presidency a failure.

So, Biden gives a great Inauguration speech about coming together, but he knows the reality. Trying to work with the other side is a sure recipe for failure. The challenge is to actually enact good policy. So far, so good.

Surprise that Dobbs was cancelled. If Fox cancelled all their hosts that lie, they'd be out of business.

Agreed on all your points. And by just moving the legislation forward while still reaching out he obtains both goals...

If they were sued for $2.7 billion by everyone they lied about they might do better at fact checking and keeping their hosts in line.

from msn.com:
The Wyoming GOP approved a censure resolution by a vote of 56 to 8. The censure resolution says the state party will not raise money for her in the future and also asks that she repay any donations made to her 2020 campaign by the state party and any county parties that request it.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

When? Probably not until 2024.
Where? TBD. They are at least making noises about racial/social equity
in how the franchises will be allocated. IIIRC, they said something about
following their own ABC store model but that would mean the stores
are state owned. We’ll see.

I thought there were several interesting moments that at least
hinted that ‘Business America’ is on the dems’ side during the SB
last night. Without ever being overtly political, the message was
definitely not what the GOP wants us to hear.

So here is the fiverr ad I mentioned which I do feel is a not that
subtle jab at the incompetent corrupt pols like Rudy and Golfy McBonespurs
that played during th SB.

I didn’t know DC had dispensaries. Do they? In fact, at one point wasn’t selling
weed illegal while possession was not.

sale is still technically illegal but the legal workaround is that you make donations, or you buy a cookie and they gift you weed. i'm sure many virginia businesses will follow suit. and as far as i can tell, any liability if any through this wink-wink-nudge-nudge is on the seller, not on the buyer.

A friend in RI says the medicinal situation there is effed up given that the police are in
charge of administering the stores. No one trusts them. And given that it's a one party
state, there are make believe dems or even some real dems, that are getting their
ducks in a row for the forthcoming legalization there by being friendly ($$$) with
the right pols to make sure they get their piece of the pie.

What I wonder about in VA is how soon one will be able to grow their own without
fear of losing their house/property in civil forfeiture. A friend I know in CO has
quite the indoor garden. I doubt he'll ever have to buy weed again.

Trump Derangement Syndrome even impacts LA Times columnists whose neighbors plow their driveway for them but are the wrong political persuasion causing convulsive fits of cognitive dissonance. https://web.archive.org/web/20210207165511/https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2021-02-05/trumpite-neighbor-unity-capitol-attack

It sounds like they did, or are planning to do, the right thing which is simply to say thank you.
And if the opportunity arises, look for something nice you could do for them.

For many years I had a very right wing neighbor. About 2 years ago they sold and moved away
after living there for probably at least 25 years, maybe 30. He was a super nice guy who
would always be helpful when I had a minor emergency around the house. We both understood
we were on opposite sides of a political fence but it never prevented us from being cordial.

I think his wife particularly had some loony beliefs akin to an earlier version of Q.
But they were never nasty about it. I could have had worse neighbors.
