Exactly. No one's suggesting that Kerr go full Thibodeau, just that he use his best offensive weapon for a few minutes more in games where it might make a difference.

Go tell your fellow Warrior fans who think this is acceptable or helps develop a winning culture.

hahahaha yes the Warriors are worried about developing a winning culture after 5 finals in 5 years and 3 titles. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

I have no problem with Steph and Dray essentially taking last year after all the games they played the 5 years before and especially since it helped us get Wiseman and we werent going to win the title without Klay anyways. Plus we got to retool the budget to position ourselves better financially for one last good run with Steph, Dray and Klay.

I guess you can call it our "process"...

How is it ridiculous? You only have three players currently playing with the Warriors that went to the Finals with them. The rest of them don't know what it means to play winning basketball at all let alone play winning basketball at a high level deep in the playoffs.

Same story this year, when he’s not surrounded by multiple stars and superstars he can’t elevate his game and the teammates around him and win against a healthy opponent. I would bet he will try to use injury to shut it down this year too.

His legacy has taken a brutal hit the last year and counting. He’s more a system player than a superstar .

So this post was written on Xmas day, 2 games into the Warriors season. 2 games. One week later he scored 62 and right now he’s shooting 43% from the arc while leading the entire league in 3FG attempts.

This has aged so well.

The list of people who gave it an And-1 is, predictably, littered with the usernames of unserious posters who’ve spewed some terrible takes over the last year or so.

The guy is averaging 30/6/5 on 48/42/93 and a whopping 66 TS%. 30 points on 66 TS% is ridiculous. If anything Curry has proved himself to be a GOAT offensive player candidate this year if he keeps it up.

Its incredible how often I read a terrible post, and then browse at the and-1 list, and its littered with posters I already have on ignore.

So to both Vladimir and Joerezz, can you explain why you were wrong? I mean this is a guy who's been lighting the league up going back to like 2013. The biggest concerns seemed health and age. Were those the issues? I mean this guy has completely changed the league and is a clear top tier all time offensive player. So why did you doubt him? Just his size?

First off, let me preface my response by saying I have a personal bias against Steph Curry. I've always admitted to that, and I don't know why it is, but I always root against him. Not his fault, but just my own personal bias.

I would say, my concerns were definitely more health than size, although I do think his size hurts him come playoff time, where more of the game revolves around ability to get off difficult shots, which can be tougher for him than other, bigger players. I always figured that Steph was more of a ceiling-raiser than floor-raiser, and that he would get "exposed" when paired with a bad supporting cast.

I do think Steph was a top 3 player in the league basically from 2015-2019, but I also thought that maybe his peak period, or even prime, had passed.

Does being "old" mean you're exposed? Cause man MJ got exposed on the wizards...

To be fair, I didn't make the thread, so I probably wouldn't have ever used those words myself. I did think that Curry's peak had ended, though.

I never said I expected Looney to be a better player, or for this team to be able to afford a better player.. you were the one that asked why he wasnt getting more minutes. My answer is that he's a below average starting center, decent/solid backup. And those types of players really only get around 20-25mpg or so at most on nba teams. But the warriors also have wiseman that they need to develop, further taking away minutes from looney. For what the warriors could afford, Looney is a solid contract and player for them. I am more than fine with a wiseman/looney center rotation moving forward. Just because a guy is the best a cap limited team can afford, doesnt mean he's entitled to more minutes. Looney is good for the warriors because he can give them rotation minutes on a good contract, not because he is some big minute starting player on a good contract that's being underutilized.

Easily better than Looney imo
Gobert
Ayton
Ibaka
Nurkic
Jokic
Towns
JVal
Theis
Adams
Biid
Blopez
Turner
Capela
Baynes
Bam
Drummond /J Allen
Nikola
TBryant

Looney is essentially in this tier and I'm not sure if he is clearly better than most if any of these guys:
Horford
DAJ
Plumlee
Robinson
Tucker
Holmes

And then you have a number of backups that are as good or better as well

My point is more he has a clear net positive impact for the team when he plays. All else equal the team seems better with him vs the alternatives, with me fully understanding you have to develop wiseman, I still think 5 more minutes a game for him is 2-3 wins over a season.

Yea I have no problem with seeing 3-5 more mpg from looney. Doesnt help that he gets injured often.

To think that the OP was just salivating at the thought of making this thread minutes after the second game of the season ended still makes me chuckle.

Pretty crazy to see his FG% from different distances.

From 0-3 feet = 63%
From 3-10 feet = 52%
From 10-16 feet = 55%
From 16 feet to 3pt = 53%
From 3pt = 43% (65% eFG)
And 93% from the line.

Pick your poison trying to stop him.

Fair enough. Yeah, I mean given his age and a season off, I wasn't sure what we'd get. I was a hair skeptical he'd have another MVP level year, but clearly he's not lost a step.

Honestly, there aren't 10 players ever who could do this.

The constant playoff issues people bring up from Curry also drive me nuts. Saying curry is constantly banged up in the playoffs is not an "excuse". It's been reality in a number of series. It is also the biggest knock on Curry in terms of his place in the all time lists. He's been durable by most standards but as all time greats go, his durability in the playoffs is a MAJOR knock against him.The point is, he can do this against tougher defenses, against more physical play, etc. He also can be banged up when pushed around too.

Exactly.

We have established this thread is really just about finding reasons, however absurd, to denigrate Curry, and I have been concerned about the risk of whiplash for some posters in rapidly pivoting 180 degrees from a position of him being a system player who would be exposed by a paucity of elite team-mates this year to him being so good that it is anti-competitive not to play him more minutes despite him playing more minutes than the likes of AD and Embiid.

That even apart from the 2-way player thing he is not as robust as very high echelon/generational players like MJ and LeBron is a quite valid point against him though, and the sales pitch that they could win titles without KD but needed him to be a dynasty was pretty much based on Curry’s relative frailty.

I have wondered if Curry should be assumed to be fully fit if able to suit up why this didn’t apply to LeBron at the end of his first season with the Lakers.

Utter nonsense. Curry did play before KD joined GSW; why exactly do you think KD wanted to join him ?.

I think if anything, this season without klay will be beneficial to curry. Its 100% true that he has had some elite supporting casts for a good half decade. Seeing him adjust to and persevere playing against the kind of defenses in the RS that he is seeing this year will only help him in the playoffs, should they make it, and also the seasons beyond this one. When KD and eventually klay went down against the raps, steph had to adjust to the defense focusing solely on him which he hasnt had to deal with for at least a few years. Now, he is 100% used to it and has been dealing with so many different defensive looks all season. He will be better prepared to handle it in the postseason.

But i think it is painfully obvious by now that Steph is the same type of talent he has been since 2015, which is an elite nba guard.

I mean curry's had some issues over the years to say the least. Klay was an iron man before that injury though.
