Re: Available backup pgs?
I wouldn't mind targeting Lou Williams.
But it would have to be a 3 teamer I think. Bjelica or Cojo straight up won't work.
Be willing to give up a second too.

Bjelica (expiring)

Joseph (2.5 mil guarantee next year)
Glenn Robinson III (Expiring)
Justin James
2021 Kings 2nd
2021 Memphis 2nd
2021 Lakers 2nd
2022 Kings 2nd
2022 Less favorable of Detroit/Chicago 2nd
Using some combo of this poo poo pile. What is the best the Kings could get in terms of a backup pg?
If we fall out of the playoff race by the deadline I'd be willing to take even a trash second rounder for the rest of Elfrid Payton's deal.
With Rose headed there, maybe we could do something now?
Payton has to agree to the deal I think.

I was talking with other Kings fans, I was the only one interested. Probably not. I'm open to it however.

This would be fine as well. He and Hali were the only ones useful off the bench yesterday.

I would definitely do it. Payton is doing exactly what we expected him to do but minutes in the backcourt need to be kept open for Quickley.
Why rely on nuance, facts and logic when you can bludgeon the other side with mindless repetition of "Duuur McDaniel's has potential
and still be treated as if you were reasonable.

Is Rubio too good/expensive for your role in SAC?
That said, this role is a guy who ideally should play 10-15, but with Walton going Fox- Hali - Buddy to end games, Rubio would figure to see 20-25 mpg for us so I'd stomach that extra year if it was a cheap pickup.
I think there’s some possibilities here. Bjelica would be more valuable in MIN, and Rubio is getting frozen out by Russell, and would probably return to form with the Kings. One problem is that this deal adds $2.7 mil to MIN, who is dangerously close to the lux. I would suggest
SAC GETS: Rubio, Layman
MIN GETS: Bjelica, Joseph
For SAC, Rubio is an upgrade over Joseph, and a pass-first defender would be a decent fit on the Kings .. I agree he would get 20-25 minutes, and be a legitimate option to start if there is an injury. Hopefully he can pass on some wisdom to the young Fox and Hali, and Buddy would love him. Layman costs $3.8, $3.9, and is an adequately paid vet that would be in the rotation at SF, which is a difficult spot to fill. This makes them better, it costs them no assets they may want to use elsewhere, but they have to make a two-year salary commitment.
For MIN, Bjelica would help stabilize a pretty risky PF situation, and he has familiarity playing next to KAT. I think Rubio is a good team player, but he is a horrible fit with Russell (and Russell is making sure of that), and the extra year is looking uncomfortable if he stays. Layman is coming off some injuries and the birth of a child which has gotten him off to a bad start, but he is coming around now. However, rookie Jaden McDaniels has looked really good, and MIN would probably like to keep giving him minutes. This deal clears both salaries for next year.
Note, if you prefer getting Josh Okogie instead of Layman, he’d probably cost you a non-lotto pick. He has been awful when asked to be a shooter, and his offensive game really only involves finishing at the rim. However, he has been MIN’s best defender, stopping the point of attack, and his energy is non-stop. He isn’t quite as fast as Fox, but he’d certainly fit in with a team that loves to run.

I like it, but I personally need a little clarification on the Kings cap situation pertaining to Holmes and only having early bird rights.
I've heard some stuff about us not being able to give Holmes more than MLE because we are already projected over the cap (I think those people are wrong and are considering Joseph as a guaranteed contract). I believe we should be able to offer him around 13 million annually right now.
It really all boils down to that. If the Kings could comfortably resign Holmes to the MLE, I would take this deal. Id probably ask for any pure expiring instead of Layman, Ed Davis would be perfect and saves the wolves a bit of money this year. Kings could probably include a 2nd if that was a sticking point.
That said, If Holmes is expecting a bit more (12-13 mil annually?) then I would pass. I like Rubio but I don't think upgrading our 4th guard is worth losing our only center. We saw what happened with Toronto trying to get by with guys like Baynes/Len, and the Kings have no reasonable replacement on the horizon.

Re: Available backup pgs?
Most of these players aren't worth the effort, are you Satoranský or Augustine away from the playoffs? I doubt it. Sacremento should be making an upgrade somewhere, not a sideways movement or the slightest of an upgrade. Fox and Haliburton will play the majority of the time, the third guard doesn't have to be better than Cory Joseph. Rubio would completely be wasted lobbing to Hassan Whiteside.
If you can get Lowry, or someone like that, now we're talking. They should be making a big move so that they can make the playoffs.

Re: Available backup pgs?
I can't figure out a deal that Denver might like, but we certainly have extra point guards. Monte Morris seems like an excellent backup PG that could even start on some teams - perhaps. He's a decent shooter but is a rather traditional PG that is focused on making others better and just doesn't make many mistakes and plays both ends of the court.
Adding Campazzo didn't make sense to me, but he's proven to be an offensive wizard who hustles on defense.
Malone seems to like Barton as a backup PG, but he's actually a wing. Dozier seems similar to Barton in terms of PG-Wing.
What Denver seems to need is 3&D type wings and/or defensive bigs (but who doesn't need those players?
) --- I'd love adding Bjelica to Denver, but he isn't actually what Denver wants and I just can't see a way to make it work. Third team time?
