I agree with this post. There has been a ton of improvement this year with a lot of players.

I wouldn't put him in the MIP list, but I have been impressed with Kuzma's improvement. He's been a really solid defender and making tons of little winning, smart basketball plays for the Lakers. That is a rare transition from a player who was thought of as kind of a bonehead and hopeless defender best suited to taking a lot of shots on a bad team.

A lot of people mocked his contract, but it seems like it might have reassured him and allowed him to really buy into a team first role. Still, the improvement in his mental game from earlier in his career has been rare and impressive.

Both are strong candidates for sure but i go with Grant. Wood showed a little bit of his potential last year in bubble. But Grant has become a whole different type of player this year. He used be a great role player for the team but this year he's playing like a star of his team and more importantly he is dribbling and creating his own shot which wasn't a part of his game at all. I think it's crazy that he changed his game in such a short time.

I Wood go with my boy Christian. He went from having his girl leave him cause he went undrafted to every girl wanting to be on his Wood.
still learning the game

How should he be in the discussion if he's far behind Grant?
For sure behind Grant not far behind Grant. He's close enough to be in the discussion should Grant fall off in the second half of the year.

Like everything in the NBA, awards or hype to earn an award are often decided before all the games are played. Narrowing it down to two players in the poll helps that cause. I'm not so sure simple stat amounts is the best or sole indicator either. Leaping up into extended new roles and hitting it there should be involved as well.

Christian Wood at 22/10 with 42% threes, 55% overall in 31 minutes was on a tear this season before this ankle thing. Wood have been nice to see the season playout.

It’s Grant and not particularly close. He went from being a misused role player who bet on himself and has proven he’s one of the best two way wings in the game

GSP wrote:It should be Jaylen for Mip

Jerami and Wood improved but they were capable of this before specially Wood. Their minutes/role have just gone way up. Jerami up 10 minutes a game from last year. Wood up 12 minutes a game from last year basically playing a quarter more ball

Jaylen has actually improved his game in tangible ways everywhere. Hes actually playing LESS minutes than he did last year but his numbers and efficiency are up practically everywhere. And just watching him play, his Iq, handle and general know how have all greatly improved. The other 2 are a classic case of "these guys couldve done this the season before if they had a bigger role/more minutes". Jaylen isnt like that when Jayson missed games last season he wasnt capable of taking over the offense like hes shown this season

Jaylen’s defense has taken a major hit and his low BBIQ and handle still has him with the worst assist/turnover ratio among non center “stars”. He HAS improved but others have made bigger improvements due to changing roles and increased minutes. Jaylen is a two week shooting slump from showing zero improvement. He’s had 0 assists in five of the last six games. He shouldn’t even be in the discussion

All Melo does is score, and he's shooting below 40% from the field and has a .529 TS%. 13.5ppg 3.4rpg 1.2apg isn't going to cut it. Clarkson is running away with it this year.

25.8mpg 17.4ppg 4.3rpg 2.1apg .583TS%

Leads players off the bench in scoring, and his team has the best record thus far. No brainer.

Wood was already that good but deserves a MIP award. Grant legit improved most this year, however.

Clarkson is the runaway candidate for 6MOY.

Yeah Grant improved a lot, but he is shooting just 43% from field and playing on one of the worst teams in the league.
Last few games his shooting was terrible

Give Thad Young some 6MOTY love, dude has been amazing this season.

11.2 PPG
5.4 RPG
4.3 APG
1.3 SPG
0.5 BPG

59% from the floor and doing it all in just 25 minutes per game, been incredibly well-rounded.

Clarkson with a smooth 40 off the bench for Utah tonight on 13/20 shooting and 8/13 from deep. He took a discount from what he could of made (some laughed at the contract Utah gave him) because of fitting into this team and Snyder having faith in him and letting him be him.

Clarkson has to be the runaway winner so far for the 6th man. Like the distance between him and whoever is second must be gargantuan.

Wouldn't say that in the slightest, like I said above Thad Young is playing excellent well-rounded basketball and has been every bit as impressive.

The only thing Clarkson is producing better than him is points and he's doing that with significantly more usage (28.3%) to Thad's (18.5%).
