It could have changed thousands of Republican votes. Bringing evidence clearly to people who put those particular Senators and representatives in power. The people who voted them in, did so before Trump sent a dangerous mob marching towards the Capitol. Those people had a right to see the evidence against him, and also the craven nature of the people who even now harbor and protect him.

The optimist in me fervently hopes there are enough persuadable voters
to create a significant wave to purge some of these senators. Twenty-two (?)
are up in 2022. What portion is at serious risk? In my wildest dreams, half
but a quarter might end up being as much as they have even the slightest
chance of unseating. That said it will surely depend on the political climate
in Nov 2022 which partly depends on how well the dems fix all the effed up
things we now face.

Question- do I remember correctly that there was evidence that tRump
or someone at the direction of tRump, kneecapped the normal pols that
would have authority to summon the National guard? If that was the case,
it seems to me it should have been included in the evidence. That said,
on the whole, I thought the House Team did an outstanding job. Since when
have conservatives liked guilty people getting off on technicalities which in
this case were contrived anyway.

So now I’m waiting to see how Fani Willis does when her first grand jury is
convened in GA in March.

I think the National Guard delay was a result of DC not being a state, having to go through multiple layers of bureaucracy with every level having veto power rather than just letting Mayor Bowser call them in at will. I imagine the Dems investigated and didn't find any evidence of Trump saying "let them stew for three hours first," although it sure looks like that's what happened.

I mean, at any moment Trump could have sent in the NG. And he didn't. He could have solved the problem. He also could have tweeted "I condemn violence, stop it, go home" instead of saying "I love you and cherish you, maybe consider being peaceful, if you feel like it"

North Carolina GOP Sen. Richard Burr joined six other GOP senators voting to convict Trump at his impeachment trial Saturday, saying the former president “violated his oath of office” by brazenly peddling unfounded election conspiracy theories and “directed his supporters” to “disrupt lawful proceedings” at the Capitol.

Burr “just made Lara Trump almost the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him ... And I certainly would be behind her because I think she represents the future of the Republican Party,” Graham gushed. Burr doesn’t plan to run again when his term is up in 2022.

Lara Trump has never held elective office, nor does she live in the state Graham wants her to represent. And that’s the least of her problems, according to hordes of critics who couldn’t wait to post scathing putdowns on Twitter.

She's so impressive that Graham doesn't even know what her first name is. This would be hilarious if it wasn't overwhelmingly pathetic in so many ways.

The future of the Republican Party... Haaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha.

The DC National Guard was disarmed and given rules of engagement not to interfere with the rioters - no arrest etc.

Rush Limbaugh died. Primary architect of the hate filled conservative movement that resulted in a violent insurrection on 1/6/21. Made a name for himself calling a female college student a slut for advocating for contraception to be included in health care, claiming McNabb was doing well because he was black (doesn't even make sense), and mocked Michael J. Fox for allegedly faking Parkinson's symptoms. A truly horrible, horrible man who made a career selling hatred and lies, he did irreparable harm to this country and to Democracy. Good riddance and I wish he had died sooner.

Brilliant satire in the online comments in response to the Rush Limbaugh died story in the Post. I didn’t get it at first. The last line is the giveaway for slow thinkers like me.
