Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
Regarding the MVP discusssions..
First off, nobody really respects or trust that our team and our guys can maintain their stellar play.
Even the media people like Zach Lowe says he doesnt want to be victimized again by picking our team making the finals like how he did last season.
Most people just see our team as a fluke.
Even I dont even trust Tobi in crunch time. You read the Embiid thread and some people dont even trust Embiid to sustain his mid range shooting numbers. Are you confident Embiid can sustain shooting almost 60% from the mid range? Personally, I do think he can sustain shooting it at 50+% with a possibility of near 60%. But im in the minority.
Do you trust Seth can sustain shooting his 50-50-100 numbers?
Media people do not want to ruin their credibility so they wont go out and say Biid is the front runner in the MVP race then look bad if ever Biid went into a shooting slump. On the other hand, LeBron is the safe bet.
It’s a career decision for these media guys.
Most people doesnt trust our team. Just as nobody really takes the Jazz seriously.

It is fun to see the Celtics lose, I can't imagine how nuts we would be if we were losing to the Wiz by 20.

Sleepy Danny Ainge has been blowing assets and wasting draft picks at nearly equal rates to BC/EB/BB. Probably would have been fired already if Billy King didn't gift him 3 top draft picks in one of the worst trades the league has ever seen

Yeah Danny got lucky, he's a bad GM, but at least he doesn't make rash bad moves. Course that inactivity is reason enough to be fired, no reason for that team to be constructed the way it is other than his utter arrogance.

Brad Stevens is a bad coach that runs a highschool offense. It's becoming increasingly more clear that he's not head-coach material. He's a defensive coordinator that was dramatically overrated since he took that job. I remember at one point people said he had more trade value than actual superstars in the NBA. Crazy.

I know he's aggressively stupid, but I'd give him a shot on our G-League. It doesn't seem like disciplinary action based on tweets I've read, but it's still unclear.
EDIT: Never mind, read the quote tweet. Yea, he's still stupid.

He's just taking cues from LeBron, whose strategy is to make it seem like he doesn't get enough recognition. Doesn't matter what reality is.
Hell, Rich Paul probably just told him to say it.
Pretty sure the whole #WashedKing that started since he's been a Laker was just a couple Bron haters on Twitter saying he would eventually regress (which to his credit he has barely showed much regression in the grand scheme of things).
LeBron spun it and pretended like everyone was saying he was currently washed up to paint himself as the underdog. I get it, MJ did these things too to motivate himself (i.e. LaBradford Smith fiction) but LeBron's whole social media schtick is utter cringe.

Agreed, pretty pathetic that we consistently lost to that high school offense though. Goes to show you how horrible we were, and possibly still are.

Interesting, I was thinking the same thing about the past, not now.
Brad beat Brett like a yard dog, so how actually bad was Brett....pretty sure we know the answer so just a rhetorical question.

Well, doesn’t the league wants the game to be like a “highschool offense” showcasing the stars with a 1v1 or 2 man game contests down the stretch?
Offensive sets are just mostly run on the first 36 minutes of the game.
Even if you look at how we play.
When Biid is on the floor, it’s run some off screen play. If the guy is not open, then dump the ball to Embiid.
Then if Embiid is not on the floor, then run some 2 man game with Tobias-D12 PnR or Shake/Maxey-D12 PnR.
Offense is run like how 99% of people play NBA 2K nowadays.

Re: Around the League: 2020 Offseason
The problem with Ainge is he’s too straight forward. He’s not creative and he doesnt adapt.
When it comes to drafting guys he values intangibles that isn’t really that valuable. He’s like.. “let’s draft this guy because he has grit and a pure heart.” Hahaha what is this? Casting for Lord of the Rings?
If he’s a chess player, he rarely sacrifices any valuable pieces to move further ahead.
He just want to have a chance to win then make the right moves. No risks.
He reminds me of old people who just want to play it safe because they dont want any stress in their lives.

Also the reason why a guy like Doncic can be the league’s MVP at some point.
The league is really trending towards into a form of entertainment from a real sport.
If you can’t stay close at a guy, he will pull-up. If he can’t pull-up in front of you, he’d step back or pull-up a step or two from the 3pt line.
If you stay close at a guy, it’s a foul if you use your hand. If you dont use your hand, he’d just drove past you.

Imo thats watering down the sport making it less competitive.

In today's game, Iverson would average 40-45, in his prime there is no way you could guard him without a handcheck.

An exaggerated comparison is entertainment wrestling.
A lot of jabbing early on. Punch here punch there. Until the superstars will pull off their “rock bottoms” “choke slam” “stone cold stunner” to win games.
In the NBA, they’ll run mostly their sets. Then they’ll just go into PnR and 1v1. Superstars will make step backs, fade aways, shoot those 30 to 40 footers.
Defense is just an illusion just as hurting is in entertainment wrestling. It exists but the power is minimal.
This way you’ll see superstars like LeBron being able to play until they’re 40. Just as you see old wrestlers like Hulk Hogan and etc.
You say its watering down the sport. But its really relative.
This way they also can inflate the number of star caliber players because scoring is very easy and you just have to develop the right skillset. This is why guys like Drew Hanlen and Chris Johnson rise to their fame.
Kids are now being developed the right skillset. Run pick and roll, shoot and develop an ISO game. And you get guards like Maxey, Milton, SGA, Schroeder, coby white, Sexton, Jamal Murray, darius garland, cole anthony, fred van fleet and etc. being able to run PnR and shoot every draft. There’s maybe close to a hundred similar guys out there right now.
So being goodis easy compared to before but being special, its tougher than before.
In some ways i find that whenever you inflate a system, you’ll just increase inequality.
With this in mind, you have to look at talent as there is a huge surplus of low to mid end talent in the entire league.
So be quick to trade non top end talent. Find some dumb team who’d trade top end talent for a handful of low to mid end talent.
Value is relative to the supply.

Wait, I didn't realize Powell was waived by the Knicks. Currently has 19pts and 4 asts in the third. If a consolidating trade occurs, I'm 100% on board with signing him. It's absurd that he's not on a team right now.
