Really impressive
Only the 2nd rookie from Detroit to win it since 1982 according to Eric Woodyard

Kelly Tripucka was the last.

Now with Blake done in Detroit, and Grant moving to his natural position(PF), Bey will be the starting 3 and the race for ROY is going to really heat up!

Re: Saddiq Bey wins EC player of the week!!
i said this in the bey/harris thread but while it's great to see bey win player of the week, i don't exactly think he was the best player in the eastern conference this past week.
bey now moves to starting SF and he's really the only other player that can play PF (besides doumbouya who got a DNP last game). the team is going to be better simply because grant is playing his natural position and also bey is going to get a ton of experience because he should get minutes in the 32-35 range.

I have to say today's a happy day. Blake's playing days finished and hopefully in a respectful manner for everyone. Bey getting some encouragement and recognition. And as whitehops just said, Bey can now be our confirmed starting three, and while he's certain to have some more up and down rookies adventures, he looks like a perfect fit next to Grant.

Bey had a really good week, but come on. 18/5 is not a player of the week stat line. 43 guys are averaging more points than that on the season.

Re: Saddiq Bey wins EC player of the week!!
So now we have a few Piston fans who don't think Bey should have won player of the week.
I swear we all got PTSD from how long this miserable period of Piston history has gone on, but some got it worse then others.
It's okay fellow fans, it would appear the dark times have gone. You can allow some hope to creep in again.

This usually only goes to players from a team who had a good week in terms of wins
We were 3-1 , otherwise he wouldn’t have won it. But you could say that for 4-0 booker too.
It’s still a good accomplishment.

Of course he shouldn't have. He had 1 great 30/12 game. His other 3 were 15/3, 10/3, and 16/4. I'm thrilled that he is showing great promise, but it's just not in the same league as guys like Beal - 35/5/7, 24/4/5, 35/7/5.

So the record he set doesn't mean anything, nor the much better defense he plays, as well as being the main factor in winning games?Billl wrote:zeebneeb wrote:So now we have a few Piston fans who don't think Bey should have won player of the week.I swear we all got PTSD from how long this miserable period of Piston history has gone on, but some got it worse then others.

Also, what was the Wizards record last week?
I respectfully disagree. Bey earned it, and deserved it.

They beat Boston and Chicago they lost to the Knicks and to Toronto. When was the last time a player from a 2-2 team won player of the week?

He didn't really deserve it over lavine but hey, he made the most of the opportunity and I'm happy he got the recognition and is getting significant mins.

He had a hell of a week but I’m surprised it warranted player of the week. And I say that without knowing what other East players did- I have nothing to add to that debate. Just speaking generally. He had one amazing game and 2 pretty good ones.
Nonetheless, hopefully a sign of things to come.

This.
Also I think it was Whitehops, when referring to who gets minutes at the PF with Blake out, that said that Sekou was a DNP last game.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I actually think that was because of the kick to the head he got rather than coach’s call.
Casey even said today that moving Blake allows us to get more minutes into Bey and Sekou!
Today was a good day.

Re: Saddiq Bey wins EC player of the week!!
Hopefully with Blake gone, Bey becomes the full time starter at SF averaging 30+ MPG from here on out. Hopefully Sekou, at the very least, gets all the backup PF minutes behind Grant each night. If both those happen we've got nothing to complain about.
I was already worried that Hayes was going to have a majorly reduced role once he came back because of how good Delon Wright was playing, and Weaver fixed that by trading off Rose. Then I started to wonder what happens to Hayes' minutes if DSJ starts playing well.
As Pistons fans we're incredibly lucky management decided to move on from Rose and now Blake and seemingly is really focused on making sure the youth movement moves forward this year. I think the one last move the team needs to make is Wayne Ellington out so we can get the focus on Jackson and SVI.
My ideal breakdowns of minutes now.
C: Plumlee(24)/Stewart(24) Have the big guys play 6 minutes each quarter so they can be full energy all game.
PF:Grant (36)/Sekou(12)
SF:Bey(36)/Sekou(12)
SG:Jackson(30)/SVI(18)
PG:Wright(30)/Hayes(18)
9 Man Rotation Minutes
Bey & Grant 36 MPG
Wright & Jackson 30 MPG
Sekou, Plumlee & Stewart 24 MPG
Hayes & SVI 18 MPG
It feels like Wright has earned that starting PG spot and I think it'd probably be foolish to just hand the keys back over to Hayes from day one. He should have to earn it like Bey and Stewart have earned their spots now. I'm fine with handing him over backup minutes so he can continue to grow and develop as a player but it just feels like he isn't/shouldn't be a starter day one of coming back. Hopefully he's back for us after the AS break.
