It will be interesting when we get to full strength. I know I can't wait for Cam and Dre to return. Our perimeter defense was awful last night

I miss Hunter a lot. He had been our most consistent Hawk in both ends. We are a different team with him. Maybe it’s not all Lloyd, he’s right about getting open shots, we just have to hit them.

Remember those days when players would practice endlessly. Shot making is rhythm. Something is not adding up as far as the player and the work they are putting in. How do we have such good shooters yet they keep missing shots? Act like you’re Kobe and get out there and shoot 2000 shots a day, it has to be second nature. If they put in work, the percentage will go up, it’s honestly that simple.

Yeah, this is the part I’m conflicted about. The team is struggling right now and it’s ugly. But we’re in most games right now against playoff caliber opponents. And we’re gonna be hell in about 6 weeks when Hunter and Bogdan come back.

The Pierce criticisms are valid, but so many of those concerns will go away with a return to health.

Following his team’s most recent loss, Hawks star Trae Young gave a brutally honest assessment of where things have gone wrong thus far.

He said during a session with the media:

“We have to continue to learn on the fly. We’re getting guys in and out. We’re mixing guys in. (Saturday), we just kind of went out there and just tried to play with effort. We just got to figure out how to close better and kind of learn on the fly.
“I just think a lot of teams are throwing things at us that we’re not prepared for right now."

Ya I guess when I look at our situation of an 11-15 record, it’s with our key bench guys out, Bogi and Hunter being a huge part of it, but looking around the league, everyone is around .500 or near it either just under or over with the same issues we are having.

I guess I feel our core guys are so good that we should still be able to beat a team like the Spurs at home. But it’s a rollercoaster, all I hate is huge losing streaks. We can’t afford those. From here on out, we should try to not have these 3 game losing streaks, we are currently in our second 3 game slide separated by one win. Earlier in the season, we dropped 4 in a row at one point. We need to keep it close to .500 to get in the playoffs and this team desperately needs a playoff showing for the confidence of our young guys. They need a taste of it, even if it’s a sweep, just get in.

Trae: We're not prepared for what opponents are doing
Pierce: The players need to hit shots

Those are both fightin words as far as I'm concerned. In one corner you got Pierce trying to save his job by throwing the players undedr the buss. In the other corner you have Trae throwing the coaches under the bus. Something's gotta give.

The backup pg spot has been a total mess, maybe even moreso than last season. George Hill could of been had in the past I'd reckon they want a future 1st now. Pierce has had his hands on this defense from day 1 and whatever he's doing is not working.

But yeah, two solid pgs is needed to insures yourself of making the playoffs. Don't know why they struggle to get somebody behind Trae... I'll like to see the team full strength, they may down too deep in the hole by then.

I really wish we would have gone after Derrick Rose. Sounds like he's been helpful to the Knicks' young players off the bench. Rondo should take note...

Rondo is helpful to the young players per the Trae, Collins, Huerter and Hunter I think (I don't feel like scrolling thru Sarah K Spencer's tweets to look for all) - he just can't get and stay on the court to being any value and when he has he hasn't looked good. (...and that's not me saying I would not have wanted DRose too)

Atlanta went 0-3 last week with a tough loss to the Mavericks that ended up costing Trae Young $20K for yelling at the officials. Then they suffered double-digit losses at home to both the Spurs and Pacers.

The common denominator in these three games for the Hawks has been their porous defense. Last week their defensive rating was 121.1, nearly 10 points worse than their 111.3 mark for the season. Teams shot 39.2 percent from three against Atlanta this week, up from the 33.4 percent they hold teams normally.

Several Hawks are grounded with injuries, but their defense has to find ways to be better if they are going to stay in the playoff race.

I'd like to acquire Hill who fits the professional older vet but can actually contribute an entire season motto. He's locked in through next season at like 10m per and I can't imagine him not drawing a later 1st which OKC has been hoarding like crazy.

Rn I'd take a flyer on Lin, who looks completely healthy opposed to him still recovering when with the Hawks. I'm also starting to have issues with LP and willing to let Nate take over until they decide on a longer term guy. This team needs a harder nosed coach, NYK looks totally different with Thibs.

Plus Dunn for another $4.25 mil.

Travis should have followed his own advise....nothing worse than signing the wrong FAs.
It's still early, but man, it's not looking good, particularly Gallo and Rondo.

John Hollinger wrote:The Hawks were supposed to be moving up in the world this season, and the fact they haven’t is generating some pointed questions. Atlanta has lost 11 of its last 16 games, turning up the Heat on coach Lloyd Pierce’s seat, and as our Chris Kirschner noted, the Hawks have lost 11 games this season where they led in the fourth quarter.

Surely, injuries haven’t helped. The Hawks’ recent skid corresponds exactly to when Hunter went out, leaving them scraping the barrel for rotation-caliber wing play in his absence. Getting Bogdanovic back should help, especially if he can play backup point guard too. Free-agent additions Danilo Gallinari and Rajon Rondo have bombed, save for one glorious night from Gallinari, while lottery pick Onyeka Okongwu has hardly played.

Atlanta still has enough talent to get into the play-in tournament at the very least. It just hasn’t seemed like a team that’s primed for a charge to get there.
