Pistons to explore trades or buyout options for Blake Griffin. Griffin will sit out games.

Blake has looked awful this season but if he gets bought out, I would definitely take a chance on him. I think he gave zero effort for Pistons this season, and played like he was avoiding any possible injuries. I also see zero reason why it must be a choice between Blake and Drummond.

Griffin looks washed up. We need help with rebounding and defense. I don't think he gives us either at this point. He's just a stretch big that can't shoot right now.

I'd honestly rather have Drummond.

I actually think Blake can be easily better than Drummond still. Unlike Drummond, Blake actually knows how to and has played winning ball in his career. Drummond never really has. There's a huge difference in their basketball IQ.

You’re right but I find it hard to see how we add both and make it work.

I see an obvious connection with DeAndre. I’m not sure where Drummond fits in unless he takes that Dwight Howard role but I don’t see a clear cut buyout situation right now compared to a declining Griffin in a situation forcing him to be a superstar.

I agree with that, he's definitely a smarter player than Drummond, I'm just not sure that Griffin can physically give us anything.

It's no secret, we need size that can help us defend and clean up the defensive glass. Drummond at least addresses our need on the defensive glass.

Does Griffin address either of those two issues? His rebounding has fallen off a cliff compared to his prime, and while I always advocated for his defense, he was never a good rim protector, especially now that he has no lift. His strength defensively was his versatility (was able to guard 3 positions) and being a good positional defender (like you said, he's a smart player). But idk, even on his best day he wasn't some defensive savant. His best attribute now seems to be his ability to stretch the floor, and even then, he's shooting less than 32% on 3s this year. Not that we need more offense anyway.

His lack of explosion and lift has really compromised the rebounding and defensive ability he once had imo. But hey, if he does get bought out, would I take a flyer on him? Sure, why not. I wouldn't pick him over Drummond, but like you said, I don't think it needs to be a choice between the two. If both are available, we could potentially just sign both.

I have concerns over Drummond's attitude and ability to play winning basketball on a contender. I think if the choice is Blake & McGee for example vs Drummond, then I'll go with Blake & McGee. Blake could be a 4/5 here, and we could add another center that can step in with decent minutes when needed. With Drummond, I'm not sure if he can shake off his bad habits that have been consistent throughout his career.

Have any of you looked at Blake's numbers this year??

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/griffbl01.html

I would take Drummond in a heartbeat over him. Drummond still gives you viable production on the glass, which the Nets need badly. Griffin isn't even a good rebounder anymore for his position, hell Kyrie nearly averages as many rebounds as he does. Not to mention his scoring and efficiency is not even at a starter level.

PASS.

I wouldn't go too much by Blake's numbers this season. They're numbers of a player who played disinterested from the start, and deliberately trying to avoid any injuries. The guy was All-NBA level in 2019, we should at least take a chance on him if he gets bought out. It's low risk/high reward potential.

For those clamoring for Drummond, I urge you to watch this entertaining rant:

Woj: Blake Griffin emerges as a top buyout candidate

Post#12 » by Paradise » Mon Feb 15, 2021 8:00 pm

I think of Griffin here in the sense of another big man who can be insanely useful on dribble handoffs much better than DJ or Bruce brown and can simply just be used as a roller, passer, finisher under the rim and a stretch five.

The dunking days of Blake is completely over, so I’m looking at him like a Millsap kind of threat. We know he’s not going to provide elite defense but neither will Drummond or Jordan.

Not what we need at all. Pre Harden trade with two rim protectors and a slew of wings, yea.
He’s a power playmaker at this point. Like a lesser Randle. He can’t be relied on to create his own offense and shouldn’t except for sparingly taking on the mismatch. On a contender he would do well to be assisted on.
6x All Star and probably deserved it for two more seasons. Great career. High level role player from here on out is more than fine.

I would take both Drummond and Griffin in a heartbeat. Drummond can start and Griffin can be a 6th man off the bench.

oh good LORD. I knew he had warts but jesus christ. 5.4 post ups a game? Who is signing off on this??

and then i see that he's shooting 47% raw dog from the field this season.

If he was a guard or wing that would be awesome. but he's a C and he isn't a stretch 5. :o 50%TS.

Look i'll gladly platoon DeAndre and JaVale McGee. At least McGee will rebound and block shots. I don't need that extra mess, the Big 3 don't need guys on this team who don't play their role.

I'm not in on Griffin at all. He's not some kind of elite defender. We need wing defense and interior shotblocking/rebounding. Griffin isn't even a good rebounder anymore.

The market looks like dry fish right now

There's no reason to be against Blake Griffin if he gets bought out. The risk is not there at all. If he shows there's still life in his game, you have a great bargain. If he looks completely washed, you don't play him or waive him, it's simple. We have Norvel Pelle, Noah Vonleh, and Iman Shumpert currently taking up roster spots, would you guys seriously have any of those guys get a roster spot over Blake?

shump over blake for me 100% and its not close

Blake is probably better then vonleh and pelle but both of those guys fill roles better then blake. vonleh as a dark alley guy and pelle as a shot blocker

whatever value blake adds is completely diminished by the big 3. people hate DJ but blake is more washed and disinterested then he is
