2 Games -- 1 Thread: Boston vs Hawks

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Tue Feb 16, 2021 6:00 pm

Two struggling teams face off twice to see who's worst at the moment.

We're gonna try something new and run both games in a single game thread. (I'm a maverick.)

The Atlanta Hawks (12-16) beat the Boston Celtics (14-14) Wednesday evening, snapping a four-game losing streak in the process. The two teams will battle again from TD Garden Friday evening, the Hawks look to start a different kind of streak.

Trae Young exploded for 40 points and eight assists in the win Wednesday, dismantling the single coverage deployed by Boston. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown tried to carry the load for the Celtics, combining for 57 points and 13 assists, but the secondary options were unable to provide enough help.

Prior to the win, the Hawks had suffered seven straight defeats at the hands of the Celtics, and 10 of their last 11. Atlanta now sits as the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff race, but is only one game behind the New York Knicks, who hold the sixth seed. Boston sits as the fifth seed, just two games ahead of the Hawks.

Atlanta is now ranked 15th in the NBA in net rating (-0.1), while Boston is 12th (+1.1). The Hawks will continue to make an attempt to claw back towards the .500 mark after a handful of gut-wrenching losses so far this season.

Notably for Boston, Kemba Walker and Daniel Theis, who missed Wednesday’s contest, are off the injury report and expected to play Friday evening.

I fully expect us to take tomorrow's game as Boston will be on the second night of a back to back and the 3rd game in 4 nights. It's ours for the taking.

But then again...

I have no expectations anymore, . We're just as likely to let Boston get out of their funk, like we did vs Dallas.

Talk about bad timing. If Nate gets a couple of wins this week, the rumbling for him to take over will only get louder...

Has an NBA coach ever lost a job while on paternity leave? LOL

Read on Twitter

There’s really not any major changes that we’re going to do (Wednesday) night other than win a ball game.”

While that might be disappointing for fans to expect something different and unique from what they’ve seen over the course of 27 games, but it’s impossible to implement a totally different system in a span of 24 hours before an important Eastern Conference game. From what was gathered after talking with McMillan for the first time since he was hired though was that Pierce has empowered his assistant to watch games as he normally would as a head coach. McMillan was brought to Atlanta to help in all aspects of coaching: player development, game preparation and game management. Pierce wants McMillan thinking and reacting as a head coach would in order to help him out, particularly with in-game decisions like timeouts, play calls and adjustments.

It’s unclear how much say he actually has when it comes to in-game decisions, but he did talk to the team Tuesday about its recent late-game struggles and how to break out of this stretch that has the team trending in the wrong direction.

NBCSBoston commentators said something like that about the film session "discussion" between Trae and John : "it happens a lot, especially with young guys like that, it's just all the media making stuff of it..."
Didn't except hearing that one day, and more coming from Boston

I hope that one day, they can find a way to play correctly without Capela.
Just the beginning of the game, but 6min with Capela, and an ATL lead. 2min wihout him and BOS leads.
Because of having see this thing too many times in the last games, I can't any more, will stop watching this one. Hope they can get a win
