A bag of S**T has more value in the NBA than Blake Griffin... Blake seems like the ideal choice to use the amnesty or stretch clause on

There is no amnesty and he makes too much to legally stretch. This has been covered extensively.

Bolded just applies to Detroit versus someone else trading for Blake, and even for that I would hate getting over confident here.
$16,855,950 is the min stretch limit next year (3% higher than this year). Detroit has: $3,934,867 on the books already.
Leaving $12,921,083.00 available to stretch. Stretching Blake's full salary would be $12,985,676 or $64,593 too much.
You need to be able to stretch all of a salary so there is no almost game that can be played... except that is the post buyout salary.
If Blake just gave up a little less than ~200k to go to the team he wanted (and the veteran min would make sense to give back) Detroit would be free to jam their books with absurd levels of stretched salary hits.
Snakebites wrote:gswhoops wrote:MoneyTalks41890 wrote:If the Pistons stretched Blake they would have a 15 million dollar cap hit on the books for the next five years. Would be an unprecedented level of self sabotage.
I think they can only stretch his last year at this point but doesn’t make it any less of a bad idea
Apparently the CBA limits how much of your cap can be stretched, and Blake's cap hit would put us above that limit. We can't do it.
See above, you aren't really safe yet.

I'll go out on a limb and say something that may be horrific to Warrior fans -
I'd very much consider a Blake for Wiggins swap. And not because Wiggins is terrible or we have to get rid of him, but if our ultimate goal is to get more star power next to Curry/Klay/Dray, I'd think a massive expiring in the offseason is better than a 2 year deal.
Extremely risky from our side as Wiggins has proven to be a capable wing player and Griffin looks not only cooked, but charred to the touch.. but in terms of what our ultimate goal is, its not entirely unreasonable. If we look at it from the post D-Lo signing:
DLo on a max contract (4 years)
for
Blake on a 3 year contract
MIN 1st 2021 (likely top 10 pick)
I think we lose a bit of value from the original DLo/Wiggins+1st swap, but we do so with a finite goal in mind

I understand the logic, but I'm not willing to definitely make our team worse on the hopes that we can find some deal later on that will make us better.

Miami’s not trading anything for Blake, buyout is the only way he ends up on the this team.

A Blake buyout will be impossible. Any buyout would most likely feature a 35 plus deal cap hit next year. The Pistons simply will not do that at all. If Blake truly wants out, he needs to turn down his option next year and take a straight waive. There is no other way to do a buyout. I still think that a trade is the best route for him.

There is a zero point zero percent chance Blake declines his PO. More likely that he gets hit with a meteor while scratching off a winning lotto ticket.

Of course a buyout for him is almost impossible with the money left on his deal, but Miami’s not trading anything for him. The only way he ends up there is securing the buyout and then signing there.

I'm becoming more and more of a polar GM than ever these days. After seeing some of the ideas the 'wait n see' people are putting out there (one idea was for Aaron Gordon, to play him at the 3) I'm entirely over it.. we need to do right by our stars who never demanded a trade, never caused a fuss, and didnt hold the team hostage if we didnt do it THEIR way
So pretty much everything we do should be with one eye towards how we get them into title contention again. I dont think it matters because I doubt Detroit would even be interested, because we've all seen what Wiggins can do as the #1 scoring option on a team, and it aint good. But if the option were out there - Wiggins for Griffin straight up - I'd give it thought. It takes a very specific set of conditions to make me OK with it, but I think we're adjacent to that set

Agreed
And Griffin has transformed his game in recent years, I see him as a good fit on the Warriors
If Pistons are receptive towards a Griffin-Wiggins swap, and I don't think they are, Warriors should definitely take the deal
I would even say do it even if Warriors has to attach some small incentive like some 2RPs to get the deal done

Re: Blake Griffin to sit out - anyone interested?
Horford to Boston (into TPE)
Griffin to OKC
Top 20 protected FRP from Detroit that conveys to two SRP’s to OKC (receives minimum player from Boston)
OKC saves money on the swap and gets some seconds
Boston gets a familiar face that they can use next year as a trade filler
Detroit gets rid of headache

If Boston is willing to take Horford for free why doesn't OKC stop there? You don't think Presti could turn a huge TPE this year and 27m next year into something better than two 2nd rounders (since no top 20 protected 1st is conveying from Detroit anytime soon and the protections on the pick to Houston prevents them to spread it over many years).
You are valuing those 2nds at something like 20 million a piece.

But why not? Just out of sheer stubbornness or you genuinely believe the players to be traded are far better than Blake?

When I think about a Wiggins/Blake swap, I am starting to be ok with it. Wiggins is a year younger than Grant and provides some scoring on the wing. It is a big whole for the Pistons. At this point, I say yes to move on from Blake. I don’t see a buyout as realistic so I’m open to trade ideas as a Pistons fan at this point.

Out of the fact that trading guys for a player that makes $77 million over the next to years and can’t move. I like him, but not at that price. This team needs more than trading for Blake which is making a move just to make a move when you could include those same pieces for someone a hell of a lot better. Trading those guys for him doesn’t do anything for this team.

You wouldn't get someone better unless you add picks and Herro/Nunn/Robinson.
This is about getting a better player than the rabble you give to help you this season, a player that has a huge expiring contract that could be traded in 2021-2022 season and comes off books in 2022 offseason.

Exactly. So why waste time trading for Blake when you can go for your targets with those pieces instead. For a team that’s been killed by COVID and injuries this season, I’d much rather have players that’s pretty reliable to actually play. What ways would this current version of Blake help this team? This isn’t 2018-19 Blake, the dude can barely move. Easy pass as a trade target.
