“He has a super-high IQ,” Austin coach Matt Nielsen said. “He’s a fantastic reader of basketball when the plays are in front of him. At the same time, he knows how to use his teammates and get them involved.” Those skills are reflected in Jones’ averaging a G League-high 9.8 assists per game. It’s an impressive showing, especially since he’s doing it with a bunch of guys he’s not familiar with.

Jones had an impressive G League debut, recording an 18-point, 16-assist double-double in Austin’s season-opening 119-111 win over the Memphis Hustle on Feb. 10. With a pair of steals, he also showed off the defensive skills that led him to earning both ACC Player and Defensive Player of the Year honors last year as a sophomore.

“Defensively, he’s a pest,” Nielsen said. “He’s where he needs to be (on the court) and extra.”

In addition to leading the G League in assists, Jones ranks in the top 25 in points per game (17.8) and steals (1.5). About the only criticism Nielsen has is he would like to see Jones, 21, become more of a vocal leader on the floor. For now, the Minnesota native is a leader by example, Nielsen said.

“He doesn’t have to over-talk,” Nielsen said. “He’s not a yapper or anything like that. But he definitely needs to be direct in getting those guys in position. He clearly has the effort, the intensity and the smarts. The icing on the cake would be for him to just (convince) himself he can be even bossier. He’s just sometimes too good of a bloke.”

I've been enjoying watching as many clips and recaps as I can find of this team of late.

Jones looks skilled, intelligent and impressive.

Not so sure about Luka. He's what, 6'10? He moves like he is 7'3 and as is a tradition with most of our big men, struggles with dunking from a standing start under the rim and seems to put up so much weak junk down low that will get eaten by a half decent defender.

The way the modern game is playing out, he'll stand a chance as a contributor if he becomes a dead eye accurate floor spacer, a three-point shooting 5, who can also keep the d honest with capable driving abilities, not dissimilar to Brooke Lopez.

And random, useless comment... I love Kenny Williams' shooting form. Like a cross between Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen.

Another come-from-behind win! This time we struggled to score in the first half for a 14-point deficit at one point. We poured it on in the second half outscoring them 65-52 for a 125-118 win.
