Re: 2021 Draft Prospects Thread: Send in what you find
I'm officially in on Bassey as the target with our 1st.. definitely a C more in our mold than JW. Tough screen setter, good rebounder, great hands. A little bit slow but that's not unusual for Cs.. would slide very well into the old McGee/Zaza role

Anyone else think that Gonzaga's corey kispert plays like chris mullin? And it isn't cuz he too is white, but his range and motion just screams right handed Mullin - which begs the question could Mullin play in today's NBA? Kispert is a mid 1st prospect tho

Kispert is legit. He’s a no brainer NBA range shooter.
He is gonna be almost 23 by the time he plays in the league. But he can play right away.

If we get our own 1st, I really would rather use it as an asset in a trade rather than drafting another rookie to what is going to be a crowded roster.

If they get both picks, try to move up for Kuminga.

I'm all for it. Consolidate assets to acquire top end talent. I don't think depth is our issue. If we're going to win a championship it's about making sure we have the best players at the top of our rotation. Maximize Steph's window by putting the right guys around him. Who the 9th-17th guy on our roster is mostly useless if Klay isn't healthy or Wiseman doesn't take a leap forward.

Our 1st though, which I kinda expect to be in the 12-15 range
Age doesn't matter to me (dont care about longterm right now), and I dont think he's going to need to score to be impactful in the NBA. Not a terrible shooter, but obviously you dont want him taking many shots. He's definitely not in the Wiseman mold at all - this guy is a tough, built banger with great mitts (I bet he has some of the biggest paws in the class) and moves well without the ball in the paint.
Here's my telltale sign and its been this way for me since I saw Serge.. his hips. That, and legs, is what provides the boom for screens. Watch how he bodies people with his hips first, he gets people off balance at the best point.. pair that with great hands, and long wingspan, and you have a guy who can be an impact rebounder and possibly impact defender. Think he could be a roided Zaza for us.
And I dont expect both of our current Cs to be on the roster next year, at all. If Looney opts out, I dont think we trade JW. If Looney opts in, I think we do

I was eyeing him at the beginning of the season. His stats are eye opening.
He is perfect for GSW pick. With so many puppies in the draft, he could fall to us.

that's is still wayyy wayyy wayyy too rich for Bassey, who like Wiseman is a single-level positionally locked C...and I'm not sure if he can give us much more than a guy like Loon tbh, either way that's just way to high for Bassey given his skill set, archetype and age. i just can't agree here and believe that would be a terrible use of the pick given who will potentially be available in that range.
there will be plenty of centers in the 2nd round that can replicate what Bassey can do in the 2nd...heck Bassey himself could very well be available in the 2nd.

Are you saying the Dubbs will most likely fall out of a playoff spot? I think it is more like 15-20 range.

There’s a chance warriors lose in the play in tournament so 12-20 would be my range

Forget drafting a center unless GSW gets lucky to get 4th pick from Minny and the other 3 teams not pick Mobley.
GSW should just pick up Whiteside for cheap. He could have help a lot off the bench. He may be dumb, but look at what Kerr did to our dumb starting SF!

Springer should be the target for us if we keep our pick. But really depends on where we land.

Re: 2021 Draft Prospects Thread: Send in what you find
Why was Paschall not drafted 28th? Because Myers bet on other teams passing on him due to his relatively advanced age and fixed role, and got him at 41. I see the same thing happening to Bassey, not so much due to his age (he'll be 21 at the beginning of next season) but because he can only play 5 and needs to add a little more size and strength. I have yet to find a mock that places Bassey higher than 25-30 for this reason; if he was the guy, we could even trade down to grab a pick from a future year and some cash.
The 2 games this weekend have me a lot less convinced we can just ride a soft 2nd half sched to get out of the play in. I think if we have to play in, we are almost certainly keeping the first and giving away the early MIN 2nd. I'm not sure if Springer will still be available by then, but Kispert and Wagner are more likely to be, and Tankathon has us getting Jared Butler, PG Baylor with our pick.
As for Whiteside, we could have picked him up this offseason too and quite likely took one look and said, no thanks. Wiggins was shoehorned into a big role he didn't want in Minnesota and is only now being pushed to find a second gear in his game, after receiving acknowledgment for what he is good at (on-ball defense). On the contrary, Whiteside has a nasty habit of taking plays off on defense, focusing on padding his own stats, throwing tantrums if his minutes aren't handed to him on a silver platter, and overall he just isn't as willing to work on his weaknesses as Wiggins. Locker room chemistry is important to Kerr, he would never sign off bringing in someone who forces everyone else, especially Draymond, to walk on eggshells around him.

Re: 2021 Draft Prospects Thread: Send in what you find
Bassey is 21 'officially' but no one really believes it, high chance that he's actually 23 or 24 already
also again, we don't need another positionally locked Center on this roster unless we're planning on moving Wiseman, otherwise our priorities should be elsewhere, like another wing, combo forward or combo guard to play with Steph/Klay.
my dream dream dream scenario would be nabbing Mobley at the 4 hole and then trading up to the 5th spot with whoever (Washington?) using our other first + Wiseman and taking Jalen Suggs...but pipe dreams are pipe dreams.
before throwing out targets for our pick we still need to know which range we're gonna be...still a lot of moving parts...we're just as likely to lose the pick currently as we are to getting it in the 6-10 range...we'll see.

right now the top 5 for sure will be
Cade
Mobley
Suggs
Green
Kuminga
in w/e order
after that I think the draft really starts.

At a certain point we need to address the xenophobic elephant in the room, where there's a lightweight assumption that players from countries deemed lesser don't have documents that are worth trusting.. at least when there was talk about this from Central American countries, there was a reason - fake documents were a huge market for entering neighboring countries and trying to emigrate to the States.. Africa has not had an issue with this but every single African-born player has to hear the same stuff and when's the last time it happened? I remember when 16 year old Serge was 23..
But yeah the idea of drafting someone like Bassey is that one of JW or Looney is not with the team next year, maybe both. You dont want to, or need to, logjam the position. And with Looney's injury, I think there's less of a chance he leaves next year (or possibly works out an extension - like I think it'd be clever if we agreed for him to opt out, and then sign him to a 2 year deal with the 2nd year being a PO.
But the reason I want to draft Bassey is because the archetype we're looking for, there's just not a lot of it going around these days. So to lock that archetype down for 4 years, essentially the rest of our window, would be *huge*. This goes double if these extended rosters are here to stay, which is entirely possible..
I've watched 2 full games of his (from 2019, but w/e) and I love this kid as a fit.. great hands, great at fighting for position, great at rebounding. Solid FT shooter and while you'd never want to bank on it, he has some range as well. Hard screen setter that took good angles on the PnR. Runs the court well too. On the negative side, he threw up several contested shots, his shooting motion could be timed with a sundial and makes JW looks like Steph, he's not much of a passer/creator, can be a little careless, and like all kids, is a block-chaser
Don't write him off because of his archetype.. I couldnt remember who he reminded me of, college-wise, until I just happened to flip on Denver and realize he reminded me a ton of college Paul Millsap

there is nothing xenophobic about this lol (i am part from the country that Bassey is from, Naija, actually)...but it's an issue because it's true...obviously it's dumb when it's used as a blanket for all african prospects but in some cases it's real...there are some real question marks regarding Bassey's situation, many close to him have said that he's actually a couple of years older than what his certificate says he is...and it has to be part of the calculation.
and I'm not against drafting Bass, I'm against drafting him in the lotto or anywhere near the lotto, he is not an archetype that you take this high, especially at his age and already debilitating knee condition...dude can't even play already without a knee brace on. if you tell me in the 2nd round here's Bassey, I'm perfectly fine with it (depending on who'd be available of course)...but if you tell me 12th or 13th or even 20th or 22nd and I'm completely out given the other avenues I'd rather see addressed.
