Cavs(10-20) vs Thunder(11-18)

Post#1 » by Harper4Ferry? » Mon Feb 22, 2021 12:17 am

Can someone explain the blackout rules? This game is also preempted on FS-OH for arm wrestling. Why do I get some cavs games and not others? I'm assuming because of a national ESPN game?

Eh, I think it’s an issue with the Spectrum app and my Roku. Roku has become trash with petty fights between content providers. Got it working on my PC

I know that JB isn’t working with much, but how many more losses in a row until we move on?

Losing Nance and sitting Dre eliminates any chance doing anything beyond young players getting reps there is no winning to be had sans other teams laying eggs. Okoro can be force fed those tank commander attempts until he starts making them but the odds he does are unlikely to happen before this season is completely in the gutter if it isnt already as far as pushing for a play in game. JBB is not going anywhere imo regardless of several strange roster moves after the trade that were not ever going to do much beyond give him excuses to not use them again

Pretty sure you just answered your own question. Why are you going to move on from a coach that doesn't have much to work with, especially with all of the injuries that are making the preferred playstyle impossible at the moment?

I am sure the majority of wayward CLE fans will be jumping ship after this losing streak. I for one am not surprised by the struggles right now and it is to be expected. I dont necessarily like the team chemistry or the fit as is, but if the young players can develop skillsets that compliment each other the org may not have to trade all of them. I am seeing Windler looking pretty frustrated and struggling to get into rhythm out there in ltd minutes and tbh I dont blame him he is much better than he looks in this fd up arrangement. Id put 4 windlers and Fro out there if I could over the clusterf assy of other players any day if I wanted to win now, but as is he is looking pretty bad with these line ups available to them and so he may be the odd man out. Hopefully they will keep him until the rest of the roster catches up. I see Cedi playing like he wants to be traded if you know what I mean too which maybe needs to happen, but his contract is so good Id rather see them hold a little longer

The losing doesn’t bother me because of the yutes. The average age on the floor tonight was 22.63...

When Sexton, Allen, Garland, and Okoro play 2/3 of the minutes, you know it’s going to be rough.

I have two disappointments in what I’m watching.

The first is Cedi Osman whose TS% has dropped all season and his defensive effort would be at home on a milk carton. At least he’s turning the ball over less.

The second is that after such a strong start to the season; they are third from the bottom. It’s one thing to earn it; it’s another to suspect that some of these injuries would be handled different if they weren’t playing for the picks.

So I hope the team can come back together once they are ready to play.

Cedi is neither a 4 nor a starter, but that's where we're playing him because our three NBA PFs all went down with injury. What that tells me is Wade isn't an NBA player.

The only offensive stat I care about with Cedi is his 3 point percentage. Outside of Love, he's the only guy who doesn't play like he's protecting his percentage (although Okoro is starting to fire away) and it matters. Opposing teams have started defending him out there.

I'm losing patience with our youth tbh. The Thunder are a young team too who started the season looking to tank. More losses are probably for the best at this point as we clearly need a franchise player. We finished with the second to worst record in the NBA two years in a row, we're starting three top 8 picks, we're heading for a fourth one, and our best prospect is Allen who we traded for.

I get that, but your complaint is with a front office that is trotting out Stevens and Wade as NBA PFs.

The Thunder team last night had positional balance and was a year older than what the Cavs rolled out.

I’ll grant that Cedi is playing out of position, but he’s shooting 23% from beyond the arc over the last ten games. While I don’t want him “protecting his percentages” some sort of awareness of where his shooting is an asset and where it’s not would be nice.

The Cavs will generally ride with a coach unless they start realizing that he's lost the players, but I suspect there's some in the organization that may enjoy seeing the losses pile up. At some point, Altman might be held responsible for the player's he's drafted and the team he's constructed; but IMO it's still very early, and it's not all that clear how much control he had or now has (with DG's participation limited).

If things up top have actually changed, the Cavs could signal that by hiring and paying a basketball lifer to take come in as the President of Basketball Ops; someone like that could look at things from the big picture view and determine if we have the right GM and Coach to build a team that can win in the modern NBA.

As for Cedi, he is at an age and experience level where it's proper to judge him. We've let him do more this season, and it hasn't gone well. The question for the organization is whether we can dial him back? ... Eliminate those times when Osman tries to do too much, and he's potentially still a useful player at a decent price.

I just can't think of a single reason swapping coaches would matter. Beilein was clearly lost at the NBA level. He underemployed his bench players in terms of unfavorable matchups. He allowed locker room problems to fester and was even dismissive of legitimate concerns players had.

None of that is true for Bickerstaff. He sat down Drummond. He has almost no healthy players to work with in terms of his bench. Is trotting out secondary lineups with G league guys in it going to work better under a new coach? Are Garland, Sexton, and Okoro going to grow a couple inches under a new coach? Is Kevin Love finally going to get healthy and get on the court under a new coach?
