No he isn't, Gobert is making $26.5M this year, and contract size is irrelevant in MVP discussion anyway.

Otherwise, great take.

I'd have him 5th right now (behind Jokic/LeBron/Embiid/Kawhi).
Where is Steph?

I'd put him 7th-8th. 5 already listed, Dame in 6th, and Giannis. I'd say Giannis has probably outplayed him, but has zero chance narratively to 3peat as MVP, so I guess 7th for Steph.

He is "in the conversation", but not really in the conversation.

He should be mentioned as one of the also-rans, but nobody is seriously considering giving him the award over Embiid, Jokic or Lebron.

I would love to see Shaq's reaction.

Gobert is definitely better than Capela, hands down.

Steph and Dame basically have the same stats, but Steph is a little bit more efficient. He also has a worse team that makes it harder for him to get good looks.
Giannis can't hit a free throw, he's already showed two years in a row he's just empty stats, he has no business in this conversation imho.
I'd say Embiid and LeBron are ahead with Embiid leading the way, then Jokic/Steph/Lillard.
Gobert is great, but not MVP type. He can get his DPOY and call it a season.

The "no he isn't" was referring to Capela being better than Gobert (he's good, but he isn't), and the Gobert extension begins *next* year. This year, he is making $26.5M.

Legit candidate, but he shouldn’t win.

People with votes have to give out a 1st place vote, a 2nd place vote, a 3rd place vote, a 4th place vote, and a 5th place vote.

Historically players are measured not only by the number of times they were #1 in MVP voting, but also the number of years they were top 3 or top 5.

No way, not even in the videogame.

He is just a defensive specialist (top one, best rim protector for quite some time) with a limited (yet efficient) offensive game. It hardly scream much more than DPOY candidate. For me he isnt even an All Star. It doesnt matter a lot, and is about entertainment, it isnt very entertaining to watch Gobert playing.

Probably not a realistic candidate with his numbers but should finish top 10. I'd have him in the 6-8 range right now and definitely one of the most impactful players in the game.

we've seen a lot of players with similar size and length but nowhere near the same impact Gobert has. Dumb post.

First, he needs to win a title while at the same time being the best player on the floor. Then he needs to show marginal inprovement next yearand really be on fire when voting is taking place.

I think that is his only path to a mvp.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I wouldn't call Capela better as i still think Rudy is better but this year alone Capela is pretty much on par with him as a player which imo is huge and very impressive for Clint. The hawks might have lucked into a very slightly worse version of Rudy for just the 15th pick in a crap draft and only 15 mil a year. That might be Schlenks best move he has made to date so far. They are both top 3 in rebounds and blocks and until this week both of them were #1 and #2 in defense rating. Hawks whole team had a horrible week in Drating so it hurt clints as well sadly he dropped from #1 at 101.8 to #9 at like 106. That awesome game against Joker should help bring that up a good bit though.

So in the end i say Rudy is a bit better this year still but the production from both for the price their costing Clints giving you a much better value.

No, he is not. Let's get real, no player averaging less than 25 ppg should even be considered as a candidate. All he does is defend and rebound, he's a very good role player, but thats it.

He should be top 5 and maybe top 3 in voting. Best player on the best team at the end of the season should be pretty high up on MVP list but I see 1st team all NBA and DPOY.

Yeah, the best player on the best team in the NBA is just a very good role player.

Sure.
