Last Chance Picks At Predicting The Eastern Conference All Star Reserves

Post#1 » by Scalabrine » Mon Feb 22, 2021 8:58 pm

The All-Star Reserves are being announced this Thursday at 7pm on TNT and I thought it would be fun on this snowy North Eastern day to get a poll/discussion going on everyones final picks for each conference. So far we've had the All-Star starters announced, and
I'd say that 99% of the people would agree that Middleton and Harden are both total locks so I'll add them to this list as well.

Embiid
Giannis
Durant/Middleton
Beal
Irving/Harden

After that though; there are way more than 5 deserving players.

Trae Young - Hawks 13-17 Record - 26.9ppg, 3.9rpg, 9.5 apg on 44/38/88.5 shooting splits.

Jayson Tatum Celtics 15-15 Record - 26ppg, 7.1 rpg, 4.6 apg on 45/39/87 shooting splits -

Jaylen Brown - Celtics 15-15 Record - 25.5, 5.5 rpg, 3.9apg on on 49.5/41/75.5 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/brownja02.html

Zach Lavine - 13-16 record - 28.9ppg, 5.5rpg, 5.1 apg on 52/43/86 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lavinza01.html

Domantas Sabonis - Pacers - 15-14 record - 21.5ppg, 11.6rpg, 5.7apg on 53/36/71 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/sabondo01.html

Bam Adebayo - Heat - 13-17 record - 19.6ppg, 9.4rpg, 5.5apg on 56.5/33.5/84.5 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/adebaba01.html

Julius Randle - Knicks - 15-16 record - 23.5ppg, 11rpg, 5.5 apg on 48/41/80.5 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/randlju01.html

Nikola Vucevic - Magic - 13-18 record - 24.1ppg, 11.7 rpg, 3.1 apg on 48/40.5/83.5 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/v/vucevni01.html

Ben Simmons - Sixers 20-11 record - 15.7ppg, 8.3rpg, 7.9apg, on 57/16.5/67 shooting splits
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/simmobe01.html

Others:
Fred Van Vleet, Kyle Lowry, Malcolm Brogdon, Gordon Hayward, Jimmy Butler, Pascal Siakam, Tobias Harris, Jerami Grant

G: Brown
G: Harden
F: Tatum
F: Adebayo
F: Middleton
WC: Young
WC: Sabonis

Last WC only question for me, I think coaches will vote in Sabonis. The first 5 are locks, Young and Sabonis spots only for debate IMO.

I chose the Trae and the Boston Jays (good band name), plus Julius Randle and Damantas Sabonis. All of those guys deserve to be in it, but had to pick 5. Record was my tie breaker when it was close.

Forwards - Jayson Tatum, Ben Simmons, Julius Randle

Should be Harden, Randle, Simmons, VanVleet, Young, Middleton, and Adebayo.

I'd also put in Tatum over Beal (and start Harden) if I could.

I don't know if Bam should be considered a lock. The Heat are 13-17 and outside of the playoff picture and Bam's numbers aren't as good as the guys youre excluding by putting him in. Defensively it's hard to compare statistically, but Randle for example has the same D Rating as Bam 107, more Defensive Win Shares (1.8 to 1.5), and less DBPM (0.9 to 2.0) while being on a Top 3 defensive team in the league.

Zach LaVine should get some serious consideration. He’s putting up incredible numbers with the youngest starting lineup (also injured) in the league.

G: Harden
G: LaVine
G: Young
F: Middleton
F: Tatum
F: Randle
C: Vucevic

Some guys will be snubbed and it’s not going to sit right with some people.

There is no way Lowry and VanVleet make a ASG.

Locks:

James Harden
Zach Lavine
Trae Young
Jason Tatum
D. Sabonis
Nik Vucevic

12th spot will go to one of Jaylen Brown, Tobias Harris, Fred Van Fleet or Khris Middleton

I think it will go to Van Fleet, because they won't want to shut out the Raptors. The spot should go to Jaylen Brown (over Jason Tatum), but they won't want to give the Celtics 2, while giving the 76ers and Bucks one player.

Harden
Middleton
Sabonis
Young
Brown
Tatum
Simmons or Lavine

Is my best guess

Butler, Adebayo, Vuc, Randle could easily sneak in. A few is definitely going to miss out.

Don't believe Middleton is a lock

G: Harden, Young, Brown
F: Tatum, Sabonis, Randle

I think since it’s coaches a Lowry/FVV sneak in. Seems like the kind of guys coaches just love.

Beal was snubbed last year, wouldn’t be surprised if this year that kind of thing happens to Lavine, Randle, etc. Brown/Tatum might steal votes from each other too
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Indiana, Toronto, Boston, New York and Charlotte should give a player because of their record.

Did you read the OP? There are 7 reserves and OP thinks Harden and Middleton are locks. So he's asking who the other 5 should be. (I don't necessarily agree on Middleton being a lock but whatever.)

1) Why Jimmy Butler is not an option? I think he is almost a lock.

2) Why do you think Middleton is a lock? I don't disagree that he should be a lock. But he was 15th in fan vote and 17th in players vote. He is very efficient but he has not "star punch"
