I love Tatum and think he’s quite a bit ahead of Pierce at 22/23, but prime Pierce is one of the more underrated players ever.

Pierce is at a disadvantage when compared to Tatum.

Tatum's length just makes it easier for Jayson to get his shots off and he's just a better defender than Paul Pierce.

Pierce would be getting to the line at Harden like frequency though, would eat today’s defenders alive with how physical and crafty he was.

Pierce had it all offensively. Could score in the paint, draw fouls, finish through contact, hit midrange and threes off the dribble and was a criminally underrated passer/playmaker. He was big and strong as **** too and could bully defenders. Tatum still needs to get to the FT line more, continue to improve his playmaking and passing, tighten up his handle and get stronger.

True.

Jayson just has an advantage because he's taller and more athletic.

Seriously. Dude averaged 27/7/5 with a 58% TS in 05/06, when the leagues average points per game was 15 points lower than now.

Tatum is AWESOME, and even in what some are referring to as a “down year”, he’s been one of the 15 best players in the league. But prime Pierce willed his team to win like not many can do. He was an alpha on the court, dude just didn’t give a ****

I think prime Tatum will be a better player than prime Pierce, but it’s hard to be that consistently great at 22.

But that 05-06 season is not a good example of how Pierce won games for the Celts.

Celts only won 33 games that season and missed the playoffs.

This team may not finish much better than that lol. But the point is we are talking about prime Pierce, it takes time to learn how to become consistently great, and win.

Tatum will get there, but it takes awhile.

Tatum already made All-NBA 3rd team in his 3rd year.

Pierce became 3rd team All-NBA in his 4th year.

Tatum made his first All-Star appearance in his 3rd year in the league.

Pierce first became an All-Star in his 4th season.

Everyone agrees that Tatum at 22 is better than Pierce at 22/23. Just saying that prime Pierce is ahead of 22 year old Tatum.

I think the prime Paul Pierce was not the best Paul Pierce.

The best Paul Pierce I saw was when he was 30-32 years old.

Pierce was not efficient in 05-06.

But the Paul Pierce I saw from 2008 to 2010 was really very good.
He even won the 3-point contest in 2010.

That's why I think Tatum is better than the prime Paul Pierce.

The older 30-year old Paul Pierce was the best Paul Pierce, not the prime Paul Pierce.

Most consider 27-31 as the peak years of careers, but prime kind of varies player to player. When I talk about prime Pierce I’m talking 07-11 or so.

If it's 2007 to 2011 then I agree.

But not the 2002 to 2006 Paul Pierce.

Pierce had his best numbers in 05-06, when he averaged 26.8 ppg.
But that was not an efficient Paul Pierce.

I'm gonna be honest, if FVV was 6-8 or whatever Tatum's actual height is, he'd probably be Jason Tatum.

This isn't an insult btw, if FVV was 6 inches taller he'd be daaaaaaamn good.

He had a 58.2% TS in 05/06. That is efficient even in todays game. It was extremely efficient at that volume in that era. League average was 53.6% that year.

Pierce was an alpha, a showman and a killer and only because his team sucked for many of his best years is he not regarded as a top-30 all-time guy.

He also turned the ball over 3.5 times per game that season.

I liked the 2007-2011 Paul Pierce better.
He took fewer shots, turned the ball over less, and had a higher 3pt FG%.

I'm the biggest Paul Pierce fan, but it's true that right now Jayson Tatum is already better than prime Paul Pierce.

Pierce was a 2nd tier superstar.

Jayson Tatum is a young superstar who will be a 1st tier superstar in a couple of seasons.

Tatum has been off. His body language is garbage and he loafs on defense way too much. He looks like a guy resigned to his fate and about to demand a trade. He's completely over it
