Chicago Sun Times - A season that has taken a toll on Cliff Floyd like no other in his career might be his last, the Cubs outfielder said Thursday -- especially, believe it or not, if the Cubs do the unthinkable and win the World Series.

''Definitely, that would make it more likely,'' said the Chicago-born Floyd, who returned to his hometown team this season only to struggle with his power all year and endure the unexpected illness and death of his father.

''If we win this, that will definitely be more likely. I could easily not think about it. I could easily go home.''

Retirement was not on his mind when Floyd, 34, returned from a foot injury to sign as a free agent with the Cubs last winter. But his disappointment over his production this season -- albeit, in only 259 at-bats through Wednesday -- and family considerations have made him look differently at retirement.

Cliff's really had a tough year and I hope the Cubs at least make the playoffs so he can experience them w/ his hometown team... Although he hasn't put up power numbers like he usually does, I've grown to really respect and appreciate him while he's been on the Cubs...

If Cliff didn't retire next year, he could come back with a clear head and possibly put together the monster season that's been brewin in him for years.

Return to Chicago Cubs
