Personally, I'm not to worried about "they've peaked to early" - us hardazzed Jazz fans (and Q and team), still see plenty of places the team can improve and they don't strike me as a team that thinks they can coast at half way point. The "playoff" toughness issue is valid based on the last several years - but again, this team has learned from past issues/mistakes with a vengance and I don't see the Jazz suddenly going soft in the playoffs. Thoughts?

There some pretty evident facts/observatios:

1. 3p based offence is most streaky and most fragile under the stress of all. Shooting accuracy tends to go in a slump exactly when it is most needed.
2. Jazz partially offsets that law of nature with good defense, but again - so far it is more of a finesse defense.
3. So far Jazz didn't fare well with tough and mature physical teams form the top 10. Clippers on full strength and even Miami on its peak performance looked like a very serious hurdle.
4. We still don't know how Jazz will play in multiple games with same opponent. Coach adjustment and riding hot hand will be a great deal and both aren't Jazz strong points.
5. Closing iv close game looks like pretty weak point...

So unfortunately there very solid reasons to expect some problems in playoffs. But keeping top place and having somewhat weaker opponent in first round can help a lot as it provides a time for adjustments to PO environment.

I keep saying this but Utah needs a nasty, defensive wing, think Tony Allen.

Lance Stephenson? He played in the Chinese league for 2019/20 season and is trying to get back in the NBA this season with no takers so far. He's a talented, tough player, but I think maybe he had the reputation as not a great team player and character guy, two things that are pretty high up on the Jazz checklist. Maybe try him on a ten day contract if there is nobody better to try?

Also, notwithstanding he shot the three ball very well his last NBA season with the Lakers, he is only a career 31.5% 3 ball shooter. He recently shot it at just 30% in the Chinese league.

Actually suggested Lance during the off-season but the more I watch the Jazz play, the more I'm convinced he'll be too much of an iso man and they already got someone that works in JC.

Is that a fan limitation from the NBA office or is it up to the Utah Jazz? Utah has already vaccinated 80% plus of its vulnerable age 70+ seniors. That's a higher percentage of 70+ seniors vaccinated than any other state. If hospitalizations continue to fall as expected, hopefully this maximum fan limitation will be revised upward for the playoffs. Go Jazz!

Stephen A. Smith gave the Jazz some respect: Says the road to championship will go thru Salt Lake City and the Jazz will be playing with a chip on their shoulders.

Glad to have gotten that Houston game out of the way. Wile it wasn't pretty and seemed more difficult that it should have been, The physical nature Houston gave was another quality lesson for this team as the PO will be more like that than what most of the season has been thus far.

With the easiest second half of the schedule % wise, and with the recent history of post ASB strong record, this could bode well for the Jazz to win the #1 seed overall. I think that has only happened once in their history, maybe twice? :dontknow:

Biggest upcoming game is the nets at home, win that one and a message will be sent. I like the timing of this road trip. More time to gel and get Ilyasovah into the Jazz groove. Those two long road trips earlier were terrific for the team as the normal distractions aren't in play as much. Kinda forced everyone into getting on the Jazz train or being left out. Now that that seems to be the culture, this troop right after the break will reinforce that concept.

Anyone have a subscription to the Salt Lake Tribune? Andy Larsen has a piece in there titled

"The Triple Team: Is it fair to have questions about Bogdanovic and Favors after loss to Warriors?"

He basically says that Favors is likely not healthy so that why his defense is suspect.

He says that Bogey needs to lessen the dribble drive and improve his defense.

I thought our entire bench, including Favors, brought more energy to the Boston game than they did the Warriors game. Favors still had a negative plus minus, but he jumped high for a block on Tatum right after the came in the game and followed up with a nice dunk on the other other end. In the Warriors game, I saw him standing flat footed to give up a Warrior layup.

Favors is probably trying to preserve his often sore back, knees and legs, and goes harder some times than other times. We really just need Favors to be able to play full throttle for about 12 mins/game in the playoffs. I am OK if Favors paces himself a little bit this regular season to try get to the playoffs in good condition. Also think we need to play Juwan or Ersan in the back to back games as part of the Favors preservation program.

Ingles also came out aggressive in Boston, knocking down two threes in Q1.

One of the TNT announcers, Chris Weber I think, mentioned that Quin had asked Clarkson to be a bit more prepared to pass to an open teammate when he is double teamed or someone is wide open. Clarkson had three assists last night in addition to his hot three point shooting. Glad to see. It's hard to complain about anything Clarkson does; he impacts games so favorably, but Clarkson is going to be subjected to tighter D in the playoffs and will need to think about giving up the ball from time to time. He has good passing skills in addition to his exceptional one on one offensive skills.

Thoughts on potential buyout candidates? Ariza or Whiteside?

Ariza is likely to be traded and I imagine Whiteside goes to LAL.

I would have been interested in Ariza, but Miami just got him in a trade for Meyers Leonard and a 2027 second round pick.
