I dunno, I'd say Ryan Saunders might have similar basketball acumen. Surely he got a vote in before he was fired?

Why is Durant still the Captain if he's not playing?
It should go to the next highest vote getter, Giannis?

New Captain: Giannis
New Starter: Tatum
New Reserve: Sabonis

There should be 15 players, per team/conference, in any event.

Why the NBA should expand All-Star Game rosters to 15 players
By Sam Quinn | Feb 24, 2021

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/why-the-nba-should-expand-all-star-game-rosters-to-15-players/
When the NBA All-Star Game was first played in 1951, each roster was made up of 10 players. There were 11 teams in the league at the time, and while teams were allowed to start the season with 11 players on their roster, they were forced to trim down to 10 before the All-Star Game. Now let's do some math. If 20 out of 110 players made it to the first All-Star Game, just over 18 percent of the league was considered worthy of the honor when the idea was first conceived.

As the years passed, steadily fewer players relative to the size of the league made the All-Star Game. Nowadays, on a purely mathematical basis, it's almost four times as difficult to get there as it was when the game was founded.

The purpose of the All-Star Game, on a broad level, has always been to celebrate the league's best talent. There just happens to be more of it now than ever. The competition to reach the All-Star Game in 2021, with two-way players expanding rosters to 17, is now stiffer than ever. Yet the All-Star Game hasn't adjusted to compensate. It's time to correct that injustice. It's time to expand All-Star rosters from 12 players to 15 players....

Tatum should use the time to rest since he has been using covid as an excuse. Brown should rest his knee given he has been on injury report with knee tendinitis.

I'm actually happy with JB/Tatum playing in the All-Star game instead of resting. I think the mental boost from that, esp for Brown, will be bigger than a few days rest. Being around the current stars of the game, feeling like they belong, getting some advice, all good to me. If they need rest, sit them in the first game of a back to back or something while kemba plays the other, whatevs.

Any official word on Durant picking players or does it go to Greek freak?

It should go to Giannis, though.
They got it all wacky.

I get it, and I'm crazy happy for brown. But I can't yelp but feel this is a big/missed opportunity to get much needed rest. Week off, clear the head, and refocus. I don't thing there's any advice to be had. I agree, these guys should be resting during back to backs. But ultimately, this team needs to be playing together consistently, and that starts with kemba's ***** ass.

The All-Stars are only one day this year, right? -- It's all on Sunday, I believe. To minimize contact, due to COVID-19.

Yeah, they’re not gonna have their world view changed or anything, but you can still pick stuff up from the best in your craft. I just don’t feel that a couple days is gonna be that big a deal rest wise either, so let them enjoy it. If the rest IS a big deal, sit a regular game or 2 instead.

I mean, they’re gonna play anyways so it’s moot, but I’m totally fine with it.

A year ago Kemba had started missing games with "sore knees" only to be allowed to play. After the ASG he missed so many games which extended to over a month of this season.

Now we have a 23 year old already missing games due to "sore knees" I side with giving him any extra rest as possible. JB is already being recognized as an All star. isn't that the bigger thing?

I get that argument, I just feel like it's one game. If the knee is so shot one game makes a difference, then you're screwed regardless.

Kemba had real, structural knee issues. Jaylen is 24, he will be fine to play one game lol. Covid is my bigger worry with him being there.

And nah, playing the game is the most important part to them.

LeBron and Durant are picking teams tonight, yes?
Let's see what happens with JB, JT, and JT's BFFL BBeal.

The draft will take place March 4 on TNT at 8 p.m. ET.

It's stupid though. Giannis should be the New Captain.
The picking is off, since the East will have to pick an extra person, with Durant not actually playing.

Thanks. Regarding 'captains', I don't see why KD shouldn't get to do it. He got the second most fan votes, and probably won't again -- Giannis has had the last two swings at it so I can see the appeal -- from the league's perspective -- of mixing it up a bit. Especially since there's no reason to believe that it'll be Giannis vs. LeBron in the Finals.

In terms of mechanics, Durant should get to pick first in order to pick his own replacement, and then have equal odds of having the next pick *after* that (the first 'real' pick), but odds are they'll do something that favors LeBron:) Remember there's no 'East' or 'West' once the pool of players is established, which it now has been.
