Re: Trade Discussion 20/21
Mavs don't own their draft pick, and after March 24th the schedule becomes much, much, easier, all players will be in shape, THJ is very valuable to the Mavs, and teams that could use him won't trade much assets for expiring pure shooter with below average defense.

Dipo turned down a contract offer for Houston. Let's see if the Mavs make a move by the deadline.

Re: Trade Discussion 20/21
J. Johnson / J. Richardson / J. Green / '27 1st Rd Pick (Moderately Protected) / ~5.8M Cash to Houston for V. Oladipo and P.J. Tucker
Houston effectively gets 2 1st Rounders in Green & the '27 Pick, they get expiring serviceable replacements for Oladipo & Tucker in Richardson and Johnson, respectively, and Fertita gets cash considerations to subsidize his hemorrhaging restaurant business. It's likely the best offer they'll get. If we can pick up Drummond off waivers post deadline, our 9-man rotation will be set come playoffs:
PG: L. Doncic / J. Brunson / T. Burke
SG: V. Oladipo / T. Hardaway Jr. / T. Terry
SF: D. Finney-Smith / P. Tucker / W. Iwundu
PF: K. Porzingis / M. Kleber / D. Powell
C: A. Drummond / B. Marjonovic / W. Cauley-Stein

Thats looking more and more of a risky trade. He hasn't been good in Houston. Is going to want a big contract in the offseason and may go to Miami anyway.
Sure, James Johnson and a 2nd would be fine. But would it be worth the risk to give up JRich, THJ, or Brunson? He would play the same position as JRich, so I thought that was the natural trade, but I am not sure now.

I would stay clear of Oladipo. He plays less games a season than KP.

Barnes/Hield for JJ/JRich/Green
This with THJ extention puts the Mavs near luxury tax, so no room for a big, but should cover all scoring needs.

DeMar DeRozan is on my radar.
I think he would be a piece piece at the 2/3. I get it we lack talent to acquire talent but I hope our front office inquires about him.

Are we sure San Antonio is selling at all? They’re atop the division so I’m not really understanding why (without a trade request) they’d be looking at trading any starters. Derozan and Aldridge are popular names I see in trade rumors, but I’m just not understanding why

Re: Trade Discussion 20/21
Johnson and whatever sweetener for Harrison Barnes is the deal we need IMO.
Luka/Brunson
Richardson
THJ/DFS
Barnes/Kleber
KP
If healthy that rotation is capable of a decent playoff run and could be a dark horse finals candidate if they get hot.
Resign everybody, operate over the cap and bring in another 4/5 on the full MLE and it goes again next year with some good contracts to flip if a star becomes available.

Re: Trade Discussion 20/21
As for Oladipo, he's a clear Richardson upgrade, but sounds like he wants to play in Miami and as a flight risk the opportunity cost is too much as to operate under the cap and bring in a decent player we would have to let THJ walk too and then still only have the room MLE after signing a FA.

Re: Trade Discussion 20/21
Absolutely no to Oladipo. The guy has been traded 3 times already for a reason.
I wouldnt want Barnes or Hield either, J Rich is a much better fit, he's recovering from CoVID and deserves the benefit of the doubt

While I don't want to keep J-Rich around, I'd rather save the cash for an Isaac trade. Oladipo wants to head to Florida way too much. I don't think highly of KP-Drummond duo. If the Mavs land Drummond, KP could be moved elsewhere. Of all possibilities, I'd like to see if Orlando is willing to part with Isaac and Bamba for a KP and DFS trade. Then, sign Ntilikina in 2021. Maybe we trade J-Rich for Buddy Hield as well. For the right price, keep TH around. Possibility around 11-12M per. Drummond for Powell, Johnson and some 2nd rounders is right for the Mavs.
C - Drummond / Kleber / WCS
PF - Isaac / Bamba / Bey
SF - Doncic / Green / 2nd rounder
SG - Hield / Hardaway / Terry
PG - Ntilikina / Brunson / Burke

Honestly I'm skeptical Orlando would want to move him, I think John Collins is definitely the play. Having two bigs that can both space with Luka would take our offense beyond what it was last year. Even if Orlando wants to move him, Isaac is far less polished than Collins is offensively. In that spirit of wishful thinking, here's a 4-Team trade that accelerates the impending departures of two top FAs to two teams who would have been among the favorites to sign them:
Heat Receive - V. Oladipo / D. Powell / T. Burke
Hawks Receive - P. Tucker / J. Green / K. Porter Jr. / Mavericks ’27 Unprotected 1st Rd Pick
Mavericks Receive - J. Collins / G. Dragic / T. Snell
Rockets Receive - K. Nunn / J. Johnson / K. Olynyk / Heat ’22 1st Rd Pick / ~5.8M Cash from Mavericks
PG: G. Dragic / J. Brunson / T. Terry
SG: J. Richardson / T. Hardaway Jr. / T. Snell
SF: L. Doncic / D. Finney-Smith / W. Iwundu
PF: J. Collins / M. Kleber
C: K. Porzingis / W. Cauley-Stein / B. Marjanovic
Offseason:
Decline G. Dragic (~19M) & W. Cauley-Stein (~4.1M) Team Options ... J. Richardson will likely do the same with his PO
Sign J. Collins to Max - 4yrs 121M (28.1M 1st year salary)
Sign K. Lowry to 3yrs ~60M w/remaining cap room (~20M AAV)
Sign G. Dragic to 1+1 Full MLE
Sign B. Marjonovic to BAE
Sign N. Hinton & T. Bey to 4yr minimum deals
Sign J. Johnson to 1yr vet minimum
Sign best rebounding C you can get to 1yr vet minimum (i.e. D. Howard / E. Davis / B. Biyombo / J. McGee)
Let T. Hardaway Jr. / J. Richardson / T. Snell / W. Cauley-Stein all walk
Extend Luka for 5 yrs 200M using DRE
Sign (2) 2nd Rd Picks to 2-way Contracts
PG: K. Lowry (Cap) / J. Brunson / T. Terry
SG: L. Doncic (DRE) / G. Dragic (MLE) / N. Hinton (Min)
SF: D. Finney-Smith / W. Iwundu / T. Bey (Min)
PF: J. Collins (Max) / M. Kleber / J. Johnson (Min)
C: K. Porzingis / B. Marjonovic (BAE) / TBD (Min)
Having 4 guys who can create for themselves and for others playing about 114 minutes a night with Rick deploying some 3-guard lineups a la 2011 will be nice. Tyrell is the 5th Guard who only sees garbage time. Luka (36) / Lowry (34) / Brunson (24) / Dragic (20).
After Finney-Smith, (who'll play the 4 at times next to KP/Collins/Maxi at the 5) accounting for 28-32 minutes a night, it's going to be a crap shoot as to who gets the handful of remaining wing minutes not accounted for by 3-guard lineups. I imagine a guy like Johnson would have the inside track, but ideally, one of the younger guys (Iwundu/Hinton/Bey) can impress enough in camp to demand those minutes.
Finally, the bigs: You'd have two young elite offensive players that are under 25 locked up for at least the next 3 years with Luka. They need to be getting 32-34 minutes a night minimum. Maxi will get 28-30 as the ideal 3rd big in that rotation, and the remainder (if any) of minutes would go to either Finney-Smith or one of our two change up Centers in Boban and whomever we sign to be his athletic foil as dictated by the matchup.

I'd rather have Dragic+THJ than Lowry, at any rate, I don't see Miami trading Dragic, he's the best pairing with BAM and great mentor to their young guards, especially when they have the cap to sign Oladipo next year.

Kevin O’Connor: I’ve heard two other teams that could be connected to JJ (Redick) and a potential trade and that’s Denver, and Dallas.

Would be the perfect vet to bring in. Mavs need guys that can hit shots when Luka gets them as open as he does. I’d also see if they can steal Jaxson Hayes away as wel. Very raw, very young. Unlikely that they’d give up on him already, but I think he’s worth asking

Pels seem out on him right now with Hernangomez getting the run behind Adams.

All season Redick is guy I thought they should be pursuing. He has an expiring contract and he can shoot. He may not be Curry (or he may be?) but he can definitely fill the role left by Curry.
