If it ain’t broke don’t fix it...I’d let him continue to thrive as a backup and depending on opponent let him finish some games....
He’s definitely someone that has to play now.

Re: Let's talk Robert Williams
He is absolutely center of the future. I think he is playing well and needs to play. Thompson has been better of late.
Can we not do the lets get rid of Thompson so timelord can play more? Every time we have a player who plays well we always want to trade the guy who is at his position.
Right now, Thompson seems to be playing decent and timelord’s impact is energetic. Let’s just go with that.
Timelord’s faults are positioning. He makes defensive mistakes as a part of team defense. But Perk is right, he does so much good you gotta let him learn through it .
I think having Thompson and Williams works well. Theis is now playing power forward.

Every time I see this thread title I think it's the name of a talk show.
One that I want to watch but is probably only 16 minutes long:)

It's Broke. Our record is an indicator of that.

I like the 3-headed Center (aka, Center-by-Committee), for the time being.
But, R. Williams really needs to get that operation, and take over as our Starter.

Re: Let's talk Robert Williams
Thats lame. The losing aside, Robert WIlliams is coming along nicely. He plays well but also makes tons of mistakes that dont show up on the stat sheet.
I love watching a good block here and there, but while everyone is hugging the TV, there are times when our opponent is then left open for an easy dunk from a lost defensive rebound, Yes we got the block but the other team still gets 2 points. He also struggles to score in the half court unless we set him up for an alley oop. So YES, we get a nasty dunk...but no more offense after that....and at the end of the day the team with the most points wins.
Again, I think Stevens is doing a good job weaving in Williams where his strengths are helping, but against really good teams, we need Thies.

Robert Williams also does many things well that do not show up in the stat sheet. I can't believe we still argue on the merits of Robert Williams. He is clearly the best center we have, And I don't need a single stat to show me That.

I say rather that the eye test says we should believe the numbers. Williams is a shot-alterer. That balances or outweighs bad defensive things the stats don't capture. Williams converts alley-oops and putbacks other centers wouldn't. That balances his near-total lack of scoring other than dunks.

The thing is, I believe the numbers back me up as well. Just pointing out things like Timelord creates so much better spacing just by being a GOAT level lob threat that numbers won't quantify.

Re: Let's talk Robert Williams
I was a big Knicks fan growing up in NY in the eighties and Timelord is starting to give me that Marcus Camby feel when he would come off the bench for Ewing and just energize the team with his activity and athleticism.

I also grew up in NY, and I do remember Camby being so skinny yet may have been the best offensive rebounder despite his frame. That and his rim protection was elite. Good comparison.

His passing / vision is the difference between him being just another bouncy rim-runner and being a true stud. It's not just that he passes well, he also knows how spacing on the floor works, knows when and how to set up the P&R and then how to stress the D with his rim running. Lastly, he also knows not to just pout in the paint and ask for post-up's, which clogs the lane for our slashers (<cough> TT <cough>).

Re: Let's talk Robert Williams
Other than keeping an eye on back issues, I had seen a post on Reddit saying his artery issues may be another reason why they keep him on a minutes restriction...not sure how true that is. I hope he continues to feel good and see more and more minutes.
I did find this just now.

I'm good with Rob/TT split. Between these two is our best hope vs the playoff centers. Rob needs more time to prep for it.
Want nothing to do with Theis, again I could care less what he does in the regular season. If they need to hang on to him for insurance purposes that's fine but he's got no business seeing much valued time, we know what he is, and I can almost guarantee he'll wear down by the playoffs anyway. Better he takes an extended rest just in case.
