Let's see what happens with JB, JT, and JT's BFFL BBeal.

The draft will take place March 4 on TNT at 8 p.m. ET.
https://netswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/01/kevin-durant-will-draft-his-team-for-the-all-star-game-despite-not-playing/

It's stupid though. Giannis should be the New Captain.
The picking is off, since the East will have to pick an extra person, with Durant not actually playing.

Thanks. Regarding 'captains', I don't see why KD shouldn't get to do it. He got the second most fan votes, and probably won't again -- Giannis has had the last two swings at it so I can see the appeal -- from the league's perspective -- of mixing it up a bit. Especially since there's no reason to believe that it'll be Giannis vs. LeBron in the Finals.

In terms of mechanics, Durant should get to pick first in order to pick his own replacement, and then have equal odds of having the next pick *after* that (the first 'real' pick), but odds are they'll do something that favors LeBron:) Remember there's no 'East' or 'West' once the pool of players is established, which it now has been.

Yeah. Those are good points.
It just seems weird, that there will be no Captain playing on one team.

Wouldn’t really call it one game though as he’s missing games up to it and all star weekend is more than just the game. It just seems like a bad look to miss multiple games leading up then to play. It says my brand is more important than the team.

Players are Contractually Required to play the All-Star game, unless they are legitimately Injured.
They can't just decline.

This. It’s a terrible look. Brown is sitting so he is fresh for the all star game.

Agreed -- not sure "Win it for the Slim Reaper" has much ring to it.
Maybe each captain, each year, should pick an NBA legend to name their team after.
Last year would've been team Kobe vs team Jordan.
This year could be Magic vs. Bird or Moses vs. Dr. J or (for the CHLs out there) Szabo vs. Schnitzius
Someone get this in front of Adam Silver quick! (send all the royalties to 31to6)

If he misses the rest of the games up to it and is actually hurt, that's different. If it's just load management and he plays 10 minutes as an All-Star reserve, his teammates and coaches will be happy for him. Nobody is gonna question Jaylen's commitment to the team. Only media / message board people will care about how it looks. It's his first, and possibly only, All-Star game.

Well he came out and said his knee has been a issue, that he wasn’t doing the dunk contest because he thought it was in the best interest of the team. So he recognizes the importance of rest. And we also said the same about Kemba last season and look what happened... Six days of rest is big, especially in a shortened season, I highly doubt only us and the media are concerned. Ainge even said on T&R he rather his players not play.....

Jaylen also said he's playing the game and doing the 3 pt contest, so... shrug. He understands the importance of his health too, and probably knows the state of his knee better than us. I mean, I totally get your (ie, everyone but me's) point, I just think it's super easy for everyone to say he shouldn't play when it's not them. If I'm a 24 yo and I make my first ASG, and my only concern is a sore knee that is being managed well, I'm playing.

I'm not worried about the 10-15 mins the Jays would be playing. I'm more worried about the extra stuff that happens around ASB.

Now we have a 23 year old already missing games due to "sore knees" I side with giving him any extra rest as possible. JB is already being recognized as an All star. isn't that the bigger thing?

The nba puts a lot of pressure on the organizations and players to play in the all-star game. A LOT of pressure.

Nba players are professionals, when the man who pays the bill says play, they play. It is part of being a pro and an ambassador for the game .

Lebron has the credibility to just say F all star game. He doesn’t because he understands the partnership .

LeBron/Jokic/Luka/Curry/Giannis will be, at least in ability, one of the greatest-passing lineups ever to hit the floor.

First sub should be Sabonis in for Giannis. That would be something.

So Tatum was the last starter picked; not a surprise, just after Beal.
Jaylen was 8th amongst 14 bench players, between LaVine and Randle.
Based on this, Jaylen's trade value is clearly >> Paul George, Sabonis, Mitchell, and Vooooch.
Lol@ the Jazz guys going last and LeBron then ragging on Utah in general!

Round 1: Starters
Team LeBron: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Team Durant: Kyrie Irving
Team LeBron: Stephen Curry
Team Durant: Joel Embiid
Team LeBron: Luka Doncic
Team Durant: Kawhi Leonard
Team LeBron: Nikola Jokic
Team Durant: Bradley Beal
Team Durant: Jayson Tatum

Round 2: Reserves
Team Durant: James Harden
Team LeBron: Damian Lillard
Team Durant: Devin Booker
Team LeBron: Ben Simmons
Team Durant: Zion Williamson
Team LeBron: Chris Paul
Team Durant: Zach LaVine
Team LeBron: Jaylen Brown
Team Durant: Julius Randle
Team LeBron: Paul George
Team Durant: Nikola Vucevic
Team LeBron: Domantas Sabonis
Team Durant: Donovan Mitchell
Team LeBron: Rudy Gobert

Would be a bummer not to get to see JB and JT punk Embiid and Simmons, but we have the playoffs for that.

Each team loses one player, it’s fine.
I just hope Tatum and Beal don’t start kissing (remember Magic and Isaih back in the day?)
