Woj is saying this is the maximum they can offer him in a 2 year extension, which....it shouldn't be? Am I missing something? 20% raise would allow for a 2 year extension of $52.4m, so this is roughly 85% of what he should be eligible for on a short term extension. Either way, it had been reported he turned down a 4/$113m extension (which would've been his max extension) from Indiana before they traded him for Levert.

All kinds of weird. But yeah, he's betting on himself and he's hitting free agency.

This feels like an "extend and trade" offer from Houston. In this scenario Dipo can get 5% raises, which makes his max for 2 years 45,2 mil...

Maybe he just want to play for a winning team like Miami and doesn't want to get stuck in a rebuilding team.

Indy wouldn't have been rebuilding if he extended... :dontknow:

But really, he wants as close to a max as possible. He's betting on himself, and his team is whispering in his ear that he's easily worth a max.

Its not even betting. 10+ teams would easily offer 4 yr max to get out of lottery/ make a playoff run.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Yep. Someone will pay Oladipo in this bare free agent market. Might as well go get his money.

Yeah, Houston's situation is uncertain and is this bad FA class I can see a team or two betting on him if he finishes strong.

Yeah. figured it out. I posted a response, but it disappeared :dontknow:

If a player is traded for which he was extension eligible, he's bound to no more than the extend and trade offer, so only a 5% raise over his current salary (as opposed to a normal extension of 20% raise on his current year) and the 5% raises (as opposed to 8% raises in a normal extend and trade).

So, technically the most Houston could offer in a 2 year extension, but they could've offered him a 3 year deal, as part of the regulations. Either way, obvious he was going to turn this down, after turning down the Indy offer of 4/$113m, his true max extension.

I absolutely thought so with the way he started the season in Indy, but his time in Houston has been pretty terrible so far. Even then, if Jrue/Kawhi stay where they're at, Vic really might be the top unrestricted free agent, and may net a max offer solely for that reason. Though, I think a team signing him for that will be nervous.

My guess is that Houston is behind that Dipo offer. Butler expires in 2023 too. It makes sense to ride with Dipo/Butler for the next 2,5 years and try again their luck in 2023 FA with only Adebayo and Herro with big deals in their books.

Agreed. I can hardly decide between this and the "Ben Simmons is still a rookie" thing.

Got to go with Ainge. Simmons one is fan perpetuated but this is actually Danny Ainge ironically trying to perpetuate his own legend

I don’t understand why it irritates opposing fans so much. Honestly if the Celtics were run based off of what real gm posters pushed for the Celtics would be back in the lottery at the moment because they went all in for one year of AD/Leonard and he walked from a team that drafted Exum, Fultz, and Bender....

It doesn't irritate at all. It's enjoyable. I wouldn't call us opposing fans, I like the Celtics and many moves Ainge has made. I feel like it's also ok to laugh at this specific aspect of Ainge.

Who is the next superstar to request a trade even if it’s not for a few years? Will Giannis become unhappy if Milwaukee still hasn’t won after the 2022-23 season or so?

Shams has Sixers interested in Bjelica; not in teams interested in Tucker.
This makes a ton of sense to me.

Lots from Charania today:

Spoiler:
For the Detroit Pistons (10-25) and Cleveland Cavaliers (14-22), however, there is no doubt.

The two teams have been pegged by rival teams as sellers. Sources tell me and The Athletic’s James Edwards III that the Pistons are expected to work toward a contract buyout with forward Blake Griffin, and sharpshooter Wayne Ellington is expected to receive interest from contending teams. The Cavaliers remain in discussions to find a landing spot for two-time All-Star center Andre Drummond, having engaged in conversations with the Toronto Raptors in the past month. Cleveland has also been open to discussing forwards Cedi Osman and Taurean Prince and center JaVale McGee in the right deal, sources said. Several teams have called on the Cavaliers’ wing players, those sources said. For the Cavaliers, Collin Sexton, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and Isaac Okoro have established themselves as centerpieces of the long-term core.

The Rockets have a veteran player who has the intrigue of many of the league’s contenders: Forward PJ Tucker. The Nets, Bucks, Heat, Nuggets and Lakers are expressing interest in Tucker, sources said. Multiple teams have sensed a deal could develop sooner rather than later for Tucker, but the timing is likely dependent on the Rockets’ asking price. As of now, Houston has sought a young player back in a trade, sources said.

...

For Sacramento, forwards Harrison Barnes and Nemanja Bjelica will receive interest from suitors. Barnes, one of the team’s veteran leaders, has had a productive season in averaging 16.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists a game. Bjelica spent time out of the Kings’ rotation but has since returned. He’s averaging 8.3 points and 31 percent 3-point shooting in 18 games this season. Philadelphia, Miami, Golden State, Milwaukee and Boston are among teams that have shown interest in Bjelica, sources said.

Boston Celtics

Among top trade targets for the Celtics: Detroit’s Jerami Grant, sources said. Grant is having a breakout season, averaging 23.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He is a leader for the Most Improved Player of the Year award.

Brooklyn Nets

Several teams have pursued Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie in trade talks, sources said. Dinwiddie, who suffered a partially torn ACL in late December, is progressing in his rehab and is not ruling out a return later this season. There is appeal in acquiring Dinwiddie via trade in order to receive his Bird rights and offer him a deal for up to five years in free agency. Dinwiddie is expected to opt out of his $12.3 million player option for next season.

Cleveland Cavaliers

The Bulls have registered interest in Drummond, sources said. Cleveland has had some exploratory calls on Drummond, but skepticism remains on whether the team can find a desirable trade. The center is owed $28.7 million this season.

...

Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota has shown interest in power forwards around the league, including Atlanta’s John Collins and Orlando’s Aaron Gordon, sources said. Both players have significant asking prices in the marketplace. The Timberwolves had substantive conversations with the Magic on Gordon prior to his severe ankle sprain last month, sources said, and those talks are expected to resume as he nears his return to the floor.

Orlando Magic

The Celtics and Hornets are among teams interested in Magic two-time All-Star Nikola Vucevic, sources said. Rival teams expect that any haul for Vucevic would have to be massive. The 7-foot big man is having his best NBA season, averaging 24.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 41.8 percent from 3-point range. Vucevic has spent nine of his 10 NBA seasons in Orlando.

...

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs are receiving calls on their veteran players who are pending free agents — LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Trey Lyles and Patty Mills — and are listening to inquiries, sources said. San Antonio is the sixth seed in the Western Conference at 18-13, blending its veterans and talented young core of Keldon Johnson, Dejounte Murray, Derrick White and Lonnie Walker IV.

Snipped a little bit out, but lots of good stuff.

Also from the Pistons beat writer:

https://theathletic.com/2422807/2021/03/04/detroit-pistons-trade-deadline-news-ellington/

Spoiler:
Wayne Ellington, Delon Wright and Mason Plumlee
Per sources, these three veterans have received most of the legitimate interest from opposing teams up to this point.

Despite his struggles as of late, the 33-year-old Ellington is still shooting over 40 percent from 3 on 6.0 attempts per game. Contending teams looking to add shooting have inquired about his services. Ellington, who is on an expiring, vet-minimum contract, brings a steady and professional presence to Detroit that is very much appreciated in the locker room.

As for Wright, the 28-year-old was in the midst of some really solid basketball before going down with a groin strain. Wright, who was averaging 16.8 points and 5.3 assists over the last four games he appeared in, has received interest from several teams, per sources. A six-year veteran, Wright is on a friendly contract, one that is on the books through next season and will pay him roughly $8.5 million for the 2021-22 campaign. Despite jumping into a starting point guard role after injuries to rookie Killian Hayes, Wright has shown to be one of the better backup options on the market for a contending team, especially when you factor in his contract. However, Detroit very well could hold on to Wright until next season because of his versatility, leadership and the chance that the team turns a corner sooner rather than later with some lottery luck and more development from young players in the offseason.

Detroit has also received interest from other teams in Plumlee, per sources. The veteran big man is having a career year across the board during his first season in the Motor City.

Jerami Grant
Grant is in the midst of his best season as a pro, and despite him not being selected for his first All-Star appearance this year, many teams have checked in on his availability and made offers, per league sources. However, Detroit appears to have *no interest* whatsoever in trading Grant, who is averaging 23.4 points this season and is in good position to win the NBA’s Most Improved Award, per league sources.

Grant’s relationship with Weaver is very strong. It’s a big reason why the 26-year-old left a winning situation in Denver to join the rebuilding Pistons. Grant is considered a franchise building block and embodies everything Detroit wants its culture to be about moving forward.

From all accounts, Grant will be in a Pistons uniform for as long as he wants to be.

Seems like Grant is unlikely, also notes the same for Bey and Stewart.
