that situation smacks of Beal trying to do right by Washington and not make a public demand.. which makes it a tougher situation for both them and us. We have draft capital that most teams who'd be interested in Beal, don't. We have a current expiring contract situation that could work, but we do not have that situation in the offseason. In the offseason (at least currently) our ballast would have to be Wiggins at 2-60 instead of Oubre/Wiseman at 1/14 + 1/8 as ballast (which would still require either Looney, Wanamaker/Poole, etc etc)

Or, just maybe, Beal doesn't want to be traded. You know, like he says.

The crazy thing to me is that while everyone focuses on Beal and his unusual commitment to WAS (unusual in the sense of how bad the team he’s committed to is; Lillard’s Blazers at least regularly make the playoffs and have made a conference finals), it’s equally odd that WAS doesnt seem interested in capitalizing on him to kickstart a rebuild. Even from a purely business standpoint, I have to think there’d be more fan interest in a hot young WAS core (like MEM or NOP) than yet another year of Beal not getting to the playoffs. There’s at least hope and buzz around a young core. What they have now is stale and going nowhere.

Beal has to know the Wizards arent going to max him after the season, and if they do, he's hitching his wagon to a team without a plan. Likewise the Wizards are aware they aren't going anywhere soon, and there are diminishing returns for keeping him. Besides, star players meet with the front office in the middle of the season in the public eye *all the time* :D

It should've been Mulder to free up a roster spot but now they tied and have to add a player in any deal

Nah, he's probably going to the Nets, and we don't need him in our current state.

So how much did Blake give up to get bought out?

Wasn't he making $40 million this season and next?

I don't see the Pistons paying the full contractual obligation without getting something back.

No one knows yet what he gave up. He's making $39M next year, so he probably gave up some of that. Whatever's left the Pistons can stretch out the cap hit over 3 years.

Yup. I would have been for trading for him with the idea of having a massive expiring filler in the offseason for potential trades, but picking him up, as a player, for a single year? Hard pass. He quit on his team, and the most damning evidence is when old McDonald came up to JTA trying to defend Ellington, and Blake not only ignored it in real time, but did nothing to address it afterwards either. He's no leader. He's a leech, and that fits perfectly over in BKN where they dont need him to be anything, and leaves the actual hard work to the real stars.

Out of curiosity, does anyone think the Warriors would be interested in Lowry? Maybe for Wiggins and the MIN pick? I think he would be an amazing fit in the offense there. Could even expand the deal to take on a bit of money to save in luxury tax.

Maybe something like Lowry and Davis for Wiggins, Looney, Chriss and the Minny pick? Frees up a spot to sign Bjeliça if he's bought out (who I think is a great fit also) and saves something like 4 million in cap and however much in tax payments...

I think I can speak for 9 out of 10 dubs fans when I say we're not giving up the Minny pick for either 34 year old, expiring Lowry or to move off Wiggins.

And the 10th guy, we'll break his thumbs

Yes, none of this is interesting. One, Lowry's expiring and we arent trying to win this year. Two, if our end game was to sign DLo just to offload him and the value his trade brought us, then we effectively paid 60M for absolutely nothing. 3rd, Bjelica, much like Lowry, is a win-this-season move in a season where winning is not a priority. We know we're not contenders and making the playoffs, while fine, is by no means an end goal

You would give up Wiseman for a guy that will be a free agent this summer?

Raptors are in a weird spot. They are in 8th place in the East and will need Lowry if they want to sneak into the playoffs and get swept by the Nets and 76ers. On the other hand they can try to trade him to the 76ers or Clippers and at least get something in return for him. If that's the case there is no way they will get much back in return for a 1/2 season rental so any trade involving Wiseman or the Minny pick is out of the question.

What do you guys think about this

Wiseman + Wolves FRP + Oubre

for

Sabonis + Lamb + McDermott

I think Sabonis will be lethal on a team like Warriors, and Lamb and McDermott are great depth pieces. Gives the Warriors a chance to compete this year, and they'll be even better next year when Klay returns
