Trade deadline, buyouts, and waivers

Post#1 » by d-train » Thu Mar 4, 2021 8:03 pm

Who is available? Who do we want? Who can we get? Is there anything Olshey should be considering to improve our team for the 2nd half of season and playoffs?

I think picking up Griffin if he's bought out makes a lot of sense. I know he's washed, but he can still contribute in some limited ways, and would be good value for a minimum pickup.

As far as more pie in the sky stuff, if we could somehow make a move for Sabonis or Turner from Indiana, that would be a dream. They've got to be ready to move one of them (likely Turner).

Griffin is just a worse Carmelo Anthony at this point. I dont see any role for him here. And he will want guaranteed, consistent minutes. We cant offer that.

Either would probably require CJ. Indiana isnt trading Sabonis or Turner for our meh contracts (Hood / DJJ) and a prospect / pick. They want to win and are paying the salary of a team intending to make the playoffs.

If he is waived, he will clear waivers. So, he would be an UFA. He would have the option to pick a team that offers him the best opportunity. Without seeing what he can still do, I don't know if he can help us. I'm sure he is still big, can handle the ball, and pass. He was never a good shooter. He would help us if he can still rebound, defend, and score inside. Bjelica might be obtainable and a better option depending on how diminished Blake's skills are.

The good thing about Melo is all the stuff he still does real well, primarily he can shoot. Somehow, with almost no driving capability, Melo can still create good shots while being defended. Blake likely can't do any of that because he wasn't great at finesse moves in his prime. Blake would have to be a big rebounder and defender who can make plays. His numbers don't show he is a rebounder.

The Nets are considered around the league to be the favorites to sign Griffin but with Kyrie, Harden
and Durant, he's going to have to be a role player there. Brooklyn, GSW, Miami and Portland are
listed on ESPN as his main suitors FWIW.

Olshey: Hood for Bjelica?
McNair: Would you take Bagley?

I haven't watched a Pistons game this year. I don't know if Blake can still play. He's 32, that's not super old. It's been awhile since he jumped over a Kia.

Was being a smart-ass. Bagley would likely cost us Jones plus either a 1st or two 2nds. Maybe even Little or Elleby.

I dont think I would trade a 1st, Little or potentially even Elleby for Bagley. He really is not good. Puts up empty stats on high usage and doesnt do any of the little things to help you win the game. He is in that Jabari Parker, Michael Beasley mold IMO.

I think SAC beats us last night if they dont play Bagley. He was just awful.

I do think there is a chance at a trade with the Kings for the old notion of front offices that are used
to doing business together find a way to do more business together. Let's see if the Hood for Bjelica
move comes off. Portland does need another big body even if Nurk comes back unless somehow
Zach Collins finds a way back onto the court this season

I'd trade Collins for Bagley. But then there are a lot of players I'd trade Collins for.

I dont even know about that. I think a healthy Zach has a better chance to be a playoff contributing role player (Low usage, floor spreading, switching defense, rim protection) than Bagley, who again I see as a guy that can score some points but on low efficiency, high usage and without impacting the game in a positive way otherwise.

I know Zach is hated for his injuries, and even when healthy he isnt as good as we hope, but I do truly think he is a guy who can help a good team win games if healthy, even if his role is as a 18-22mpg type 3rd big.

Bagley looks like an uber talented big man to me. I'm sure there are problems. He is in his 3rd year and hasn't done anything. I wouldn't mind having the problem here.

Bagley is a 21 year old 6'11" player that has put up 14ppg/7rpg in 34 of 36 games this season.

Collins is a 23 year old 7'0" player that has put up 0ppg/0rpg in in 0 out of 35 games this season.

I will never understand some fans infatuation with Collins. He has the potential to be great at certain parts of the game if he can remain healthy. But he's years into his professional career and so far has failed to do so.

Buying low on Bagley seems like a total Olshey move. Meanwhile moving a recent #2 pick when his value is low seems like a total Kings move.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, if they can get something in exchange for Bagley I bet they take it. Bagleys dad is ragging them on twitter asking them to trade him, and if he is doing that publicly I can only imagine what Bagley is doing behind the scenes. Additionally, Fox's dad is also tweeting for the Kings to get rid of Bagley.... Theres some real drama over there and its pretty obvious Bagley isn't part of their future.

Blazers should 100% be dangling a future 1st for him even with that baggage.
