Griffin And Jordan Reunited

Post#62 » by Wammy Giveaway » Fri Mar 5, 2021 6:15 pm

I want to ask the Nets fans here: how has DeAndre Jordan been since he's left the Clippers? I've read accounts that his talent has not been the same since departing Clippers after Griffin was traded. When he and Griffin were together in the games they were active (ie: I'm not counting Griffin's lost rookie season), his rebounding was 10.3 per game. Without him, it's an even 10.

Do you think having Griffin on the Nets will help rejuvenate DeAndre Jordan, unlocking his true full potential?

During the 2010s, absolutely. The worst run team in the NBA during that time, IMO. Over the last year or so, there has been some reason for optimism. They are still years away, obviously.

Not sure how you've come to that conclusion, particularly when we haven't even seen the terms of the buyout.

Detroit is transitioning into a rebuild and Blake was blocking minutes/touches for the younger players and clearly wanted to play elsewhere. Given he wouldn't have been able to be traded without including young players/picks (which a rebuilding team shouldn't do), a buyout was best for both parties.

It should also be noted that Blake was brought to Detroit 2 GM’s ago. They’ve flipped the front office over twice. Not sure how the current front office thar just took over in the off season can be blamed for decisions made years ago.

KD is the reason why DJ is still with the Nets.

I remember when Dallas signed Amare, thinking it was going to open the title window back up. It didn’t, because he was completely finished by that point.

That’s where Blake is now too.. He looks totally cooked out there. Nobody should expect him to score more than 12-14 points on any team he signs with

How much of that $75m remaining did he give up?
Guess he wanted to play for a contender that badly.

That says more about the state of Blake’s game then it does the contenders too.

I do get why he’d choose Brooklyn though, they don’t have great depth and he probably sees a lot of PF minutes available. And with Brooklyn throwing darts at Vonleh, Shumpert and Roberson it’s not like Blake is worse than any of them. But sadly, Jeff Green is likely the better player at this point.

Blake must want to play with friends, contend for a title and live in NYC.

Its clearly not his best fit basketball wise.

Actually, Jordan has played pretty well lately, ever since the Harden trade. His effort has been a lot better, he's been a good defender for the most part, and he's a good rebounder and still effective lob threat.

He's just lazy or old, idk which, so he doesn't keep up the same effort consistently throughout a game, so there will be a lot of frustrating moments when he's just standing there like a statue watching players get layups or offensive rebounds. He also has terrible hands and botches a bunch of potentially easy layups/dunks/alley oops, but again, a lot of that is laziness, because he tries to one hand it a lot of the time instead of just using both hands, or to just come down with the ball and go up again instead of trying to do an impossible tip in one handed.

Ideally, he's a 15-20 mpg backup center at this point in his career. He's their only legit C on the roster, at least until Claxton emerged, so he's getting a little overplayed, at 23 mpg and is the current starter. But he's not awful, he serves his role.

I'm actually going to be surprised if any of the contenders sign him. And I'd be shocked if he goes to any due to the chances of just being waived. Guy needs to rediscover himself or he is going to be out of the league next year, too risky to put in some stinkers with a contender just to ride the bench.

I don't think a lot of people clamoring for him realize just how bad he has been this year and last year. People keep talking about the lack of dunks, but the real issue is he is shooting 36% and playing the worst defense of his career.

He needs some place that is competent but not overly competitive and will allow him to get shots and play through bad games. GSW POR MIA fit that bill better than Lakers or Nets.

I have a feeling Nets will regret this. Blake doesn’t move the needle defensively whatsoever. Besides, Nets already have enough offensive firepower to last them a full 48 minutes. I’m interested to see what he’s got left in the tank but not expecting much

They are great if you're a lakers or nets fans.

You should not be able to pick up players like Blake/Drummond on a min deal. Should be a waiver type structure where worst teams get dibs at buyout candidates

Then players would not agree on buyouts. They leave money on the table in the hopes to become champions, play in great cities, with friends, or good professionals. They don't want to play for bad teams.

Griffin wants that free ring with the Nets. They will win it without him, but he can ride the bench to collect a ring.

Its being reported the nets are the front runners now. Got to love buyouts where it simply helps the best teams gets better.

I don't see buyouts as a problem, since both sides have to agree. Detroit saves a ton of dead $, and Blake gets to go where he wants.

Maybe Blake goes to the Nets humble and becomes a limited minute garbage man around the stars. He is obviously very skilled, just limited physically

If he goes to the Nets, he better be cool with picking up some DNP-CDs in the playoffs because I doubt he's in the rotation after the second round.

Exactly. Honor your contract or request a trade. 4-5 teams / markets already play by a different set of rules in terms of FA, media attention, superstar calls... why should they get players at significantly below market rates unavailable to 90% of the league?
