Defense is all effort. With a championship on the line, I think BG at least becomes an average defensive player. He'll play minutes. Can you imagine a lineup of:
Harden
Irving
KD
Griffin
Deandre
Spacing/shooting/playmaking at all positions except DJ for lobs and putbacks. Pretty lethal. Comparable to Warrior's offense with KD.

You should not be able to pick up players like Blake/Drummond on a min deal. Should be a waiver type structure where worst teams get dibs at buyout candidates
Correct me if I'm wrong but this is how it works -- problem is you have to slot the waived player into capspace or an exception and no team has $30 mil in space lying around right now (and if they did they wouldn't want to invest it in a year and a half of Blake).
No Detroit is on the hook for his money, and now he is a free agent and can sign for any team for any money so most likely will sign a 1 yr minimum deal with a title contender.

imagine telling someone 4 or 5 years ago that Harden, Irving, KD, Griffin would all be on the same team
if only Griffin didn't that injury which pretty much made him washed up, but in that case the Pistons wouldn't have bought him out.

KD has just orchestrated the biggest coup in NBA history. In 2 years, he has taken over the franchise and has assembled a championship level roster. Brooklyn out of nowhere now has Irving, Harden, KD, DAJ, Griffin, Brown, and Green.

Easily the Nets. You have 2 MVP winners, you have Blake who was 3rd in MVP voting and you got Kyrie who is flirting with a 50/40/90 season right now while averaging 27ppg.
I think it's tough and I'm kinda leaning towards the Warriors. I think prime Cousins puts them ahead of the Nets slightly.

Re: [WOJ] Pistons and Blake Griffin agree to buyout [SHAMS/STEIN] Nets Front Runners for Griffin...
I was shocked the first time I saw Blake play this year. His mobility was gone. In some situations he looked like a shorter, thiccer version of 39-year-old Dirk Nowitzki. A loose ball scramble, an turnover resulting in change of direction... he looked unable to move and sometimes seemed like he was just trying to avoid getting injured. He looked like bending or changing direction was a painful thing.
Stats back it up. 0 dunks on the years from one of the best run and jump athletes ever. Bigtime career-lows in block rate, rebounding-rate, free-throw rate. Usage not even in the same universe. Only 14% of his shots come from inside 3 feet (previous career low was 27%, and for his career it's 35%).
This version of Blake Griffin has zero ability to help an NBA contender. I don't understand why a team would sign him, unless it's a make-good rehab chance like Boogie on the Lakers last year. He can't play. It would be great if he got healthy and found a way to be a productive player in some capacity... but right now... yeah why would someone sign him?

The last thing the Nets need is another guy who can be attacked defensively. Nets will have to play him as a backup 5 probably.

I don't want either Blake or Drummond. We need a wing defender.
You’re not getting one worth a damn on a buyout. Didn’t they just cut Roberson?
So I rather trade for someone with our money we can use for Dinwiddie injury or we can use Dinwiddies contract. Roberson is washed.

I'm pretty sure I'm right here. I couldn't find it on the Larry Coon CBA FAQ but I did find this >>>>>>
Waived is a term used to describe when a team wants to release a player before their contract is over. The team still has to pay the player the guaranteed money from the contract but will open up a roster spot to find other players.
When a player is waived, they will enter a 48-hour waiver wire, where the other NBA teams can try to claim on the player and take on the contract from the team who put that player on the waiver wire. If no teams take the player within the 48 hours, that player enters unrestricted free agency.
In the event that multiple teams try to claim the same player, the player will go to the team with the worst win percentage. A team must have enough cap space to take on the player’s contract to be considered.

Steph, Klay and Green can win you 72 games, and you add Cousins.
Kyrie, Harden, and Blake cannot win you 72, and you add DJ who is not as good as Cousins.
Green is better than Blake for their 5 year prime. The GS team has as good offense if not better but way better defense.
KD is taken out as he appears in both.

yes thats correct but no one will claim him on waivers. After he clears waivers in 48 hrs then he will be free to sign with any team for any amount

Blake looked awful, pretty much unplayable, when Detroit played the Jazz this year. He was 8/25 (36%) from the field and 2/15 (14%) from 3pt. Guys just ran right by him. He averaged 4.5 rebs. in 30+ minutes.
If he's on the floor, teams are just going to sag way off. I don't think there's anyway he's better than Jeff Green right now.

You mean like the NFL? Makes sense but even if that did that no one is picking up that contract and he would be a free agent anyway. You're also acting like the owners have some sort of power when in reality they have zero power and the players have 100% of the power. The players run the NBA.
No, the players do not have 100% of the power. Some players who earn a lot have way oversized power in the players' union. Most basketball players would be destroyed by a lockout. Easiest way for players on the lower end of the salary spectrum to make serious gains would be to support the owners against the star players.

Yeah, but then Blake wouldn't be getting all that money up front to not play on that team anymore. Kind of an important distinction.

This seems like it will either go 1 of 2 ways. He goes to the Nets and he looks 3-4 years younger and spry and ends up being a big help. Or he truly is just shot physically and is just a name that sits on the bench. He doesnt really have the skillset to be just a solid contributor. But if he can be 2019 Blake in 20-22 mpg game, that would be a huge get.
This is impossible, he's a shadow of even just 2 years ago in his first season in Detroit. If he could do it in even a very limited MPG capacity, I think he would at least shown it a little bit.

Sadly, this is exactly what I've seen of 2021 Blake Griffin. Detroit was only playing him to 'showcase' him for a trade, once it became apparent that wasn't going to work they mutually agreed he would just sit.
