Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XL
If there is a team ready for a reset, it would be the Timberwolves. We should be looking hard at what it would take to get KAT. If we can do it without trading Bryant, Beal, Hach, and Avdija, then we would have quite the team. Imagine a line up of Bryant, KAT, Hach/Avdija, Beal, Westbrook. Maybe its a pipe dream, but it would be good.
Lopez+Smith+TBJr+Wagner+Bonga+Robinson + however many 1st round picks it takes for KAT. Works in the trade machine. Everyone has 1 year remaining and TBJr has 2 years left on contract. KAT is signed for 4 more years.

What about in a couple years when we are paying 3 players 100 million?
Also, I think every team in the league could beat that offer.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XL
True, ownership will be paying a lot of $$ to keep the team together, resign players, and will definitely go over the tax. But ownership has also said that this is not a problem, if we stand a good chance at winning a title.NatP4 wrote:WallToWall wrote:If there is a team ready for a reset, it would be the Timberwolves. But you are right, lots of teams can beat that offer by a country mile.

Disagree... They'll need to see what happens with their pick this year first. If they fall out of the top 3 and convey it to GSW, sure, maybe go ahead and realize you dont have enough to add around KAT. However, if they get a top 3 pick then it would change the assessment for 2 reason.
1) You now have an elite asset to use by either trade or pick to surround KAT with another piece.
2) By keeping the 2021 pick, Minny has to give up the 2022 pick unprotected. They cant move KAT and begin a rebuild with no pick.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XL
I really don't think KAT is the ideal fit because he doesn't defend.
If we're going to mortgage all of our future picks and commit ourselves to luxtax hell for the foreseeable future, we need that star player to be a defensive stalwart in the paint because that's our biggest weakness. Give me a center like Gobert or Adebayo, or a defensive monster at forward like Ben Simmons. I feel like KAT is merely a rich man's Thomas Bryant. Sure, he's better, but he has the same fundamental flaw. We won't be winning any titles with him.
It's a moot point anyhow. It's just completely unworkable to add a third star alongside Beal and Westbrook. What we need is to build assets so that we can add that star when Westbrook's contract is up.

I’m still calling Atlanta about John Collins. Maybe they would take Bertans&Hachimura. Collins has to be the most underrated player in the league right now.
Collins+Snell for Hachimura+Bertans.
Collins+Snell for Hachimura+Bertans.

Indeed.
Actually, it would be more like $120M for those 3.

A 20% off gift certificate at Dick's Sporting Goods.

KAT has to play PF next to another big.

Jonathan Isaac or Ben Simmons is the perfect fit with KAT.

Mo is playing pretty good right now and rui is too let not undervalue them or trade them away. Mo sure fine cuz he might play his way into out pricing us. But rui no. I'm open to trading brown but not rui.

yup, which is why, in this dreamlike hallucination, I put KAT next to Bryant. They can switch off as needed.
I do think that KAT has been playing on a team that, in periods of play through the 2019, 2020, and 2021 season, ranked as bad as the Wizards defense. KAT's defense is not bad, but its certainly not good. He does seem to be caught watching, and his reaction time is not good sometimes. Thing is, he has shown that he can play good defense in spurts, and I cant figure out why he just cant do it all the time. He gets about 2 blocks a game, grabs >10 rebounds, and will be able to hold his own against most PF's.
Here is a good writeup: https://dunkingwithwolves.com/2020/07/20/minnesota-timberwolves-can-karl-anthony-towns-anchor-the-defense/

LaMarcus Aldridge shouldn't cost much given his contract is expiring and he is sitting on the bench. His best days are obviously behind him but he'd be a solid get to try to make a deeper playoff run. Bryant, Brown, Ish, and Robinson for LMA and Tre Jones works in the checker

He wouldn't be a solid get. He sucks now. That's why he is sitting on the bench. He averages just 6.4 rebounds 2.4 FTA's per 36. His TS% is just 54%. He was never that good of a defender, and now he's 35 and can't stay in front of anyone.
The Spurs would rather play 6-6 Demarr DeRozan at PF than play Aldridge.

Truly, I don't understand how you can write stuff like this. First of all, no -- that's not possible. Add a star's contract while giving away 3 R1 picks & 5 players, & you can't even field a team. It would be literally impossible. You leave us with Beal, Westbrook, Bertans & a "star" to start next year.
Let's assume that the "star" has a true bargain salary for such a player: $22m. Ok, that's 4 players at $116m. We have no developing young players. I assume we'd pick up Gill's option.
So, now we have @$17m to fill 10 open roster spots. Feel free to provide a way to do that. While you're at it, why don't you give a name to that "star." Leave aside whether he's available in a trade. Just tell me who the guy is.
But, more unrealistically yet, you are also imagining you'll also deal Westbrook & Bertans for... essentially nothings -- i.e. "expirings."
prime1time wrote:... When you're willing to trade whatever it takes, you can make cap space. 3 way trade to Bertans goes to a team for a FRP, Westbrook and FRP goes to a rebuilding team, and we get back expiring. There are so many ways to move Westbrook once you accept that he's a negative asset.
1. I'd be happy to trade Bertans for a R1 pick. Only... we didn't do that when we could, & now he's underperforming a 5-year $80m contract which comes along with him. So, sorry, no one is giving a R1 pick for him.
2. At the end of all your deals, you have reduced the Wizards to Bradley Beal & one unnamed "star." We have, basically, no draft picks & we have no young players.
3. Didn't you say you wanted to avoid "rebuilding?"
Why would this "star" want to be here? Why would Brad want to be here?

Not to mention that this trade pushes us into tax territory, plus it leaves us with 2 roster spots to fill (further into tax territory).
Then there's the fact that simply throwing away Bryant & Brown for the last 35 games of LMA's career....? I don't think so, no.

Not enough to risk the upside of those 3 IMHO.
If ATL wants to move Collins and thinks highly of Rui, then we could entertain a 3-team trade with Bertans going to a 3rd team for a pick and filler, and Rui + pick going to ATL for Collins. Troy Brown could go to which ever team values him more to make it work.
Could also include pick swap in 2021 if need be.
Rui + Brown + Bertans = 26M in 2021/2022... So we could resign Collins and stay in the same area team salary wise.
