Troy Weaver exec of the year?

Post#1 » by Shooter1 » Sat Mar 6, 2021 7:39 pm

So remembering letting Woods go and getting Plumb/Grant was not making this board happy. Now seeing things in hindhsight....

Jerami Grant and the draft rights to Nikola Radicevic were acquired by the Detroit Pistons from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for: cash and a TPE.
Jerami Grant signed a multi-year contract with the Denver Nuggets as part of an eventual sign and trade to Detroit Pistons.
Tony Bradley and the draft rights to Saben Lee were acquired by the Detroit Pistons from the Utah Jazz in exchange for: cash and a TPE.

Christian Wood, a conditional 2021 1st round pick (DET own) and a 2021 2nd round pick (LAL own) were acquired by the Houston Rockets from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for: Trevor Ariza, the draft rights to Isaiah Stewart II, a 2027 2nd round pick (HOU own) and cash

James Johnson was acquired by the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Justin Jackson, Delon Wright, a More Favorable 2023 2nd round pick and a 2026 2nd round pick (DAL own). Delon Wright was acquired by the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Trevor Ariza. Trevor Ariza, Justin Jackson, a More Favorable 2023 2nd round pick and a 2026 2nd round pick (DAL own) were acquired by the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for James Johnson.

Wayne Ellington signed a contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Jahlil Okafor signed a multi-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Josh Jackson signed a multi-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Deividas Sirvydis signed a multi-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.
Mason Plumlee signed a multi-year contract with the Detroit Pistons.

Derrick Rose was acquired by the New York Knicks from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for: Dennis Smith, a 2021 2nd round pick (CHA own) and a TPE.

Cut Blake Griffin.

Got to give him a solid A. Would get an A+ if he had taken Haiiburton over Hayes

That Wood trade looks pretty brutal when written like that. I know that might be how if officially happened on paper, but Wood left as a UFA and the earlier trade was retrofitted to include Wood for Houston's cap managing benefit.
Weaver = Hinkie
VW to Portland

it really does, but it's not actually THAT bad. we used our available cap to re-sign wood which houston wouldn't have been able to do. for that service we get the 16th pick in return. we got ariza in the deal to match salary and because he has some value on the market we attach a protected FRP. it won't convey as long as we're rebuilding, but the protections do go down after 2024. if the pick doesn't convey after that we're doing something really wrong.

we ended up flipping ariza in a three team deal and got delon wright in return. he's been good for us, is under contract at a reasonable number next year (ariza is expiring this season) and that leaves potential to acquire further assets.

how strongly you feel about wood as a player will always dictate what you think of the trade but keeping a player like wood at his contract - even if it's a reasonable number - just keeps the treadmill rolling.

Exec of the year? Nah.

He made some dumb moves. I was one of the pissed off people. I’m still not entirely pleased, but I will admit he’s done a decent job. In hindsight, he’s been good overall.

The true test will be next offseason.

Will he make additional trades that compliment our young core?

Will he draft well?

Will he be smart in free agency?

I hope so.

oh yeah, to answer the question sean marks will probably get it for landing harden and whatever players they add during buyout season. they'll have one of the best records and had a huge addition which are both common traits of past winners.

Good to see you can admit Weaver and the FO have been good overall.

Agree he's not executive of the year - can't win a award for ripping it down to bare minimum BUT we needed this.

Not even close he hasnt did anything great. The Grant signing was good but is neutralized by letting Wood go. Paying Blake to go away is meh imo, why exactly would this be viewed as a good move? Everything after that is also meh trading a pick to draft Stewart, trading Kennard+ for Bey ect. Then he waived all those guys which is negative.

The only thing Im truly happy about is that we're actually starting a legit rebuild thats long overdue.

You don’t get that award for sucking, even if it’s on purpose.

Return to Detroit Pistons
