The Bamba Potential

I think everyone here wants to see Bamba play more minutes, but that really wont suddenly happen with Vuc here.

Keeping Vuc would mean we're not tanking at all, that would mean Bamba would have to show a lot more effort on the game to earn consistent minutes since we're trying hard to win.

And whatever minutes Bamba will play as backup to Vuc will never be enough for Bamba supporters.

I think the Magic are training Okeke, Bamba, and Isaac to compliment and set picks for players like Fournier. Other franchises train players to be scorers. Coaches like Cliff leave the scoring to the vet players. The whole offense is set up to get certain players the ball. They'll purposely not even pass the ball to the other guys when they're open.

This is why you see regression by some of the young players around Cliff. It took Monk a couple years after Cliff left to get back to the player he is.

tough to say, monk being benched might be attributed to his personal character as well, comparable to jj.

Monk got suspended a few games even after Clifford left. Or maybe he smoked because Clifford got his depressed for not playing.

Ratings are pretty meaningless with small sample sizes. JI/Bamba played like 1-2 min stints together. Okeke/Bamba play more, but not enough games yet... +14 NET in 10 games doesn't say much when they're -1 NET in the last 6 games. Perspective: Big Baby and Nicholson were +25 NET in 15 games and Fournier and old Afflalo were +24 NET in 20 games.

Bamba's minutes are too erratic to read too much into his stats this season. He's getting a ton of rest, half his games are garbage time, his meaningful minutes are inconsistent. It's a poor simulation of NBA minutes. Only thing I'm looking at right now is his effort level since he's being challenged for minutes.... I want to see him approach the game like he has something to prove. I would rather see him bust his ass for rebounds and putbacks than see him make a few threes. He's only going to tap into his potential if he takes advantage of his physical gifts.

In general it's a waste of time trying to dissect stats this season. Missed games after 36 games: Fultz 28, MCW 19, Anthony 11 Fournier 15, Gordon 17, Ennis 12, Okeke 16, Aminu 27, Bamba 19 and of course Isaac 36. Bacon has started 24 games, Clark with his 29% fg% started 11 games, rookie PG started 17 games, G-league PGs have averaged 14+ mpg in 26 games, third string Birch has played the 4th most total minutes on the team. Ridiculous season.
