It's a vet min contract according to Woj for the rest of the season, so we still have MLE and DPE.

I like this move, especially for the vet min. In so far as my expectations, honestly I'm not expecting much. But as others have said, we don't really need a lot from Blake, as long as he crashing the boards and keeps the ball moving I think he'll do well. Anything more than that is just the cherry on top.

Blake will be fine here, I just don't want Claxton or Brown to lose minutes. Those two are our young dogs.

Either way, the death line up is now: Harden/Irving/Harris/Griffin/Durant

Good luck to our opponents. This is Scary Hours extended

And Marks didn't even have to use our DPE or MLE, so YOU KNOW he's not done.

Blake took the vet minimum to go for the chip, so more is definitely coming.

Those ten day contract scrubs will all be gone.

Sean Marks is building a super team, 1 thru 15. :D

Blake's been terrible for 2 seasons now. Not slightly below average All Star. Not OK starter. Just straight up terrible.

I hope he turns it around here but I'm not optimistic. Maybe he'll settle into a Jeff Green kind of role and play well. I just think expectations are too high here.

So Marks still has the MLE and Dinwiddies contract to go to work.

Actually, that sounds like a major dilution of Scary Hours. Not really what I want to see.

Blake's been pretty much useless since the last injury / surgery, so I'd rather have a hard-working complimentary player in that lineup over unwashed Blake (all those personal hygiene rumors).

Nothing against the dude, but I say let this guy bust it at the end of the rotation, and maybe prove he belongs with the Big Three over the course of the 2nd half. He needs us far more than we need him at this point.

All that said, I really like how Blake developed his game over the years, so there's definitely no joy in Mudville, here.

Ehh I guess. Blake can pretty much guard the 3-5 positions, he can move his feet, he can rebound, pass , shoot the 3 . Pretty much another Jeff Green type of player. Wish he still had some juice in knees, would like to see some nice dunks and alley oop highlights.

I guess he's the "big man" we was looking for. A 4 that can play the 5 and isn't too much of a liability when switched on smaller guys. A big like Drummond would be exposed on the perimeter but Blake is able to move his feet enough.

He can't physically do those things anymore.

Is that so? You must’ve forgot how we started our 8 game so streak. Everyone remembers getting embarrassed by the Pistons but suddenly forgot who contributed. Lol.

Read somewhere that Griffin has not dunked once since 2019. Is that true?

This is my take. He hasnt dunked in 2 calendar years. And i mean dunking in the grand scheme isnt important, but for a guy whos career is dunking that speaks volumes. He is alergic to the paint on both ends of the floor, He refuses to come inside the 3 point line.

He is shootign 36% OVERALL and 31% form three. He has a 49 TS%. His stats make Dzanan musa look like Luka Doncic. He isnt a great need fit, as we need rim protection and rebounding. he doesnt provide a ton of either. I

I dont buy that its all "not motivated in detroit". I think age/injuries have stripped his best assets and now he is just a high IQ big name who is not so succesfully reinventing his game. This has Dwade on the Cavs written all over it.

I mean, its still not a bad signing. its not like there are other options and its vets minimum. He provides some jeff green insurance and has chemistry with Jordan. But i dont see this blind faith some have in him. i see people positng videos of his game with 8 threes made. thats nice, but he is basically chucking up bricks with the occasion good shooting night once in a blue moon.

He cant really move his feat. he doesnt play above the rim anymore. and he has shot the ball awful this year.

Yes its true. its hard to dunk when you rarely come inside the 3 point line.

He can move his feet better than Drummond and any other big man in the market right now. He can play the 4 and the 5. He is capable of shooting and making 3s is the point. You're nitpicking again.

you say he can shoot but his shooting this year has been awful. you say he can move his feet but he can barely get below the 3 point line.

this isnt nitpicking. this is reality.

Not so sure I'd read too much into the lack of dunking. Pistons in full rebuild mode heading into this year and Blake knew he wanted to play for a contender. With his contract making him untradeable he knew a buy out would most likely happen at some point and probably preferred that anyway so he could choose which team to play for--not much incentive to play hard vs save his legs for a playoff run. Despite his injuries, he's still early 30's and had been pretty much been rehabbing the last 1.5 years, he very well may end up being a beast for you guys. Had one of his best seasons two years ago and definitely possible he has enough tread left to dunk but just not for the Pistons. Also, he's a more complete/smart player who doesn't need to dunk and is also a great leader, good low risk high reward pickup...

I'll say this: I'd rather have him here than elsewhere.

I was skeptical of Nic Batum entering the free agent buyout market last offseason, because he had been hot garbage since 2018. Well, I was wrong, and he's a key contributor for the Clips.

Blake may flame out and be nothing more than a 15th man. If so, no big deal, we already have enough frontcourt depth IMO. If there were a player in the FA market just as talented but more defensively oriented, that would have been ideal, but those guys don't grow on trees.

Furthermore, IF Griffin rejuvenates in a smaller role on a contender, he has the talent to swing an otherwise evenly matched series. Who is Philly's backup 4? Milwaukee's? Utah's? Those teams will already be a handful without a dream waiver wire pickup. It's better that we take him off the market than risk another team benefiting from him. That's not the sexiest way to look at this signing, and truthfully I do believe he can help us. But if nothing else, he can't hurt us.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

Was literally picked up for the vet minimum. Is there anyone better available on the free agent market right now? There's like nothing to hate about this move at all.

Nobody should be expecting All-Star Blake Griffin. Nor do we need him to be that guy anymore. We need like 10-15 minutes of a high IQ vet that can play the 4 and 5. He gives us that.

Is our season depending on Blake Griffin? Not even close. So who cares? This has zero chance of ruining anything, and a great chance of helping us, if nothing more than to give some rest to our main guys.
