Acuna probably just saw the breaking news. We could be in trouble if we expect him to be happy with his contract.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Fernando Tatis Jr. has agreed to a 14-year, $340 million contract extension with the Padres.
Robert Murray of FanSided was first to report the dollar amount of the deal. It's the longest contract in baseball history, edging past the 13-year deals of Bryce Harper and Giancarlo Stanton. In terms of money it's the third-most lucrative behind Mike Trout's $426.5 million pact and Mookie Betts' $365 million deal. Tatis Jr. wasn't even arbitration-eligible yet and wouldn't have been slated for free agency until after the 2024 season, but he and the Padres have been talking about a long-term extension for a while now. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com says that the contract begins in 2021, so it will run through 2034. Dennis Lin of The Athletic hears that the Padres would like to make the deal official this weekend.

Yeah, it could get ugly at some point - even though the Braves didn't do anything wrong. That's tons more than Acuna got. Geebus, giving a 14 year contract like that to such a young player seems crazy to me. But it is what it is. Hopefully, Acuna doesn't get bitter at the Braves.

Acuna is 2 years into an 8 year deal at 23. Work on an extension in 1-2 years and give him his big bucks, he'll only be 25 then.

Are the Mets really going to be that good? Seems like the Nats are always the biggest threat to the Braves - especially with their 3 aces in their pitching staff.

I believe the last two years the odds had us last and second to last. I doubt the Mets end up second. I like the Miami team to surprise people. I do expect us to win the division as long as we stay healthy.

Mike Soroka (Achilles) will make his first appearance in a Grapefruit League game on Tuesday.
Soroka is slated to pitch one or two innings in his first game action since tearing his right Achilles last August 3. He obviously won't be ready for the season, but there's a real chance he'll rejoin the Braves' rotation by late-April. Great news for the Braves.

Welcome back Soroka, I hear he's on the mound, working out kinks.
