Post Game Thoughts. Hosting Blazers.

Post#1 » by coolcono » Sun Mar 14, 2021 3:42 am

Good- Bench looked great tonight. McDaniels is the best pick we have had in a while. He looks better than RoCo.
4th quarter Edwards looked good.
Vanderbilt played good defense and wasn't the total offensive liability he usually is.

Meh- The game was much more competitive in the 2nd half, but couldn't finish it off. I suppose Finch deserves props here.

Bad-Edwards was pretty terrible in the first 3 quarters.

Nowell needs to shoot more and be the focus of the second unit. Naz needs to get more feeds in the low post. KAT and Naz need to play together. JO is better than people give him credit for but he should not guard anyone who is 6’8. Ant should not be a starter. Layman is too inconsistent. Nice to see Juancho hit some shots but he is not good enough at defense, rebounding, or low post play. Vando needs to practice catching passes 10,000 times. KAT needs to be limited to one underhand pass per game.

When you look at the team stats overall, it’s hard to understand how we lost this game.

Is really bad when your starting Point guard has 8 points on 3-4 FGA in the first quarter and ends up the game with 10 points on 3-4 FGA.

And that's on Rubio only...

Too many easy Blazer buckets from broken Wolves defense. Too many missed calls by the refs. Too much bad judgment on offense (Ant taking too many jumpers, Nowell not taking enough,) and too many missed free throws. Encouraging that we can compete against a playoff team without Beasley or Dlo, but we should have won this one.

Wolves win if they had a player on the roster who could step up to defend old man Melo. We just are not team with that type of mentality

Agreed, thought McDaniels should of been in the game over Layman

I think we will play Layman and Juancho more before the trade deadline to entice a trade.

Edwards gets blatantly fouled but doesn't get the call. 2 free throws would have made it a 1-point game with a minute left. At least Wolves retain possession. No, wait. Those refs get to watch the replay and enjoy the disguntingly blown call from multiple angles, only to have to give the ball back to the team they didn't call the foul on.

4 point swing. Game over. Nice job NBA!!

Free throws folks, they lost because of free throws. We missed 8 of them.

Kat was good tonight, until he wasn't. Thought he threw up some pretty questionable shots toward the end trying to "create" something. Loved seeing him get more touches in the post. Still, a big man only going 10/17 from 2's against a weak ass portland defense needs to be better from a Star player. If you want to wear the cape, you have to expect high expectations.

Honestly, thought everyone else looked ok. Refs hurt us, free throw shooting hurt us, turnovers hurt us, and adjusting to new defensive and offensive play hurt us (but is nice to see).

I love Vanderbilt's energy, but wish he had more talent to go along with it. That's why Minnesota is shopping for a PF.

This infuriated me, Blazers are better, but it was a close game, and its so imcompetent to review who touched ball last, while same review shows you a BLATANT foul on Edwards. Jesus...

If it had been clean it would have been off Roco. But for the foul Ant would have dunked. The only way the Blazers get the ball is if Roco fouls Ant and the foul causes Ant to lose the ball without Roco touching it. That is definitely something the league wants to reward with extra possessions in late game situations (refs can only review in the final two minutes of the quarter without coaches challenge.)

Hoping we can establish some consistency ... this team needs to provide it’s players better role identity, and I think Finch is working hard at it. Better defense and free-throw shooting and we are 2-0 after the break...

Again, with 8 wins on the year, we lack an array of skills, IQ, and leadership - so simple is better. Just bring role clarity and hold players accountable. With some luck, we can still establish what good looks like for the talent we have and move on in the offseason

He had 4 turnovers with 0 assists and 1 field goal attempt. He's about as "offensive liability" as is possible.

Ant has to keep attacking, the refs wont give him calls right now and that sucks but he has to keep doing it. That's his path to being good.

Towns isn't playing at his best yet, his shot is off and he's struggling with strength inside. He has always had problems against the bigger centers but his jumper has allowed him to play around the size/strength disadvantage, right now it's a bit harder for him though.

Russell is back in like 4-8 games likely. He will have some rust but hopefully, he is feeling a lot better after getting those bodies removed and he's able to get going quick. If we get an energized, good Dlo that opens things up for us. Nowell needs to keep play at a high level his scoring is needed.

We definitely needs some trades, we need a starting PF who is solid and need another rotation guy or two that are solid two-way players. Need experience.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.
