Even in garbage time....what Wiseman showed against the Clippers gave me faith again.

No...Damion Jones could not have scored on half the shots Wiseman made....3 pointers....spin left handed layup around the defender.

He's definitely got the tools to be great.

Warriors aren't going to win anything this year....Just let the big boy play at little more freely....feature him more....let him hoist from 3 (likely the 3rd best shooter on the team already).

Still too much of a layup line when switched out to a guard or wing.

Even when beaten off the dribble, there should be some chances for chase down blocks or at least make him change the shot.

I liked the physicality and aggressiveness that he played with today. Most 7'footers can't stay in front of a guard but when the game slows down for him and he learns the angles for using his length he will be better.

Kerr clearly made a tactical decision to have JW switch out on the perimeter and he did his job largely running Jazz shooters off the 3pt line. We defended the three much better tonight. The layups we conceded were 2pts vs getting torched from 3 by one of the best shooting teams in the league. It was a solid game plan and Wise got valuable experience on what being part of our switching scheme will require.

I think we're too hard on him on defense. He's clearly learning out there so I wouldn't expect him to know his belly button from his **** out there defensively.

If he still looks clueless at the end of year 2, then lets fret.

Yeh that was my take as well. After the fifth or sixth perimeter switch I assumed that must be the game plan.

Bit harsh to expect Wiseman to shut down a starting PG on a switch. It wasn't until the past two years that Gobert became competent in that area, and he's a fantastic defender.

That wasn’t his fault. They shouldn’t have been switching that. That’s coaching. Especially when it kept happening and it brought the Jazz right back.

Not sure why Kerr didn’t stop that immediately. And that’s on the guard to fight through the screen as well.

No knock on James at all for that.

He will be absolutely killing it by then imo.

What seems to be ignored is that he can score fairly effortlessly in the NBA at age 19 with virtually no experience or coaching. If they can just teach him to stand in the right place that will be enough to make him very difficult for opponents, if he can be coached to use his size and athleticism defensively he will be devastating. He doesn’t present as someone who is lacking as far as effort or application are concerned either.

It was pretty clearly a decision to make them either shoot the three over Wiseman (near impossible) or drive past him for the two where maybe Dray or Oubre would rotate to help. Rotations were not ... crisp. I won’t call anyone out of that, but their name rhymes with doubre

This is something that wiseman needs to work on. If he proves he can never do it then he becomes solely a drop big which limits how much he can play.

I’m glad he wasn’t giving up 3s to the jazz who live off of 3s. If he can fix his ability to also stay in front even better. Not looking good right now but got to give home time to adjust. He’s looking like he’s trying to match them side to side, he needs to learn to just step back rather going sliding with them.

Yes, giving them a little more space is the answer. He should make them shoot over the top of him.

Yea you can see that his feet are really never underneath him and he’s reacting to everything, which is why he isn’t able to contest their shot when they do blow by him. He’s just always playing catch up right now. That should be fixable so I want to give him time to see how he adjusts because he doesn’t change directions quick enough to slide step for step.

So just for the record the Jazz area averaging 16.9 3pt made per game. They got 14 against us. It’s not far from their average but it is below the average. To me that at the game plan worked and JW did his part

Yeah I guess Sleepy is right, but what I didn’t like is this;

If you see Wiseman switched onto a quick guard....the other guys have to anticipate the drive, and someone needs to slide over and give help: no one ever slid over at any time this was going on. That’s a mistake.

And yes Wiseman needs to improve, but Poole did the same thing to Gobert on a drive. Dude is dpoy and Poole I’m diapers. So it’s not just on Wiseman.

And on that point, I felt he visibly altered quite a few long range efforts. So yes definitely more a system choice than personal deficiency.

It’s weird because in the second half, Kerr took Wiseman out when Rudy came back in and he had Wiseman playing against Favors mostly.

I know the period where they put Wiseman in the switch was beneficial to the Utah come back, and Rudy was in on it, but I honestly blame that stretch on Kerr, because they should have adjusted after the second score.

yep, it's all about the angles and using his length. I am really hoping with experience and maturity that he can develop into a solid switchable big and not a drop coverage one. It will allow him to be on the court at the end of games.

It’s not all about the angles...they matter but, NBA guards can get by all NBA bigs on an island.

Other guys have to help. When that happens
