Re: Let's talk Robert Williams
Potentially, I'd see having an Anthony Davis type defensive profile. I'd like to see him in some double big lineups with Theis as the season goes on and see how he does with more switches on ballhandlers. He does still need work on positioning to get to that level.
Baylor is Brat.

The Double Big Lineup with Timelord and Theis is our best.
R. Williams does have a lot of potential on the Defensive end. Not too shabby on Offense, too.

TimeLord's current Per 36 numbers would put him in the Top 10 Centers league-wide:
15.5 PPG, 13.1 RPG, 3.2 BPG

If he were able to play a similar number of minutes as Rudy and maintain those splits he would be an all nba caliber center. That's obviously a big if and an incredibly hard task, especially since it'd be against starters more often, but that's how crazy good his 20 minute stretches have been.
Not saying he's as good as Gobert, just that he has that potential if he can find a way to extend his minutes to where Rudy's are and keep the same pace he's at now.
Even if he can give us 50% of what Rudy gives the Jazz it’ll make us an infinitely better team.
You can already start to see the fear of opposing players when Williams is in the paint. His blocks will eventually go down but that’s a good thing. It means guys are just afraid to attack him which equals less opposition rim opportunities
Gobert is particularly good at defensive positioning, I've seen it persuasively argued. Exceeding Capela is an easier target. But yes -- Rob Williams has all-star/all-NBA potential.
I don't think a Gobert/Capela ceiling is crazy at all. He's not as long as Rudy but Rudy is not as quick and explosive as Rob. If he approaches that level, he will be a fixture at C for the next decade..

His impact on defense as a whole is still rather underwhelming. His on/off numbers are putrid. Could be because of lineups? Would like to see him as starter for a while.

The problem for Bobby is that he's got some knee/hip issues, that might linger throughout his career. Dunno if he'll be able to log 25-28 minutes a game.
Good assessment:

His vision and timing is just ahead of his teammates that they sometimes get caught off-guard. But like anyone, he's not immune to making some head-scratching decisions. I prefer those type of aggressive turnovers though -- thread-the-needle passes over forcing dribble into traffic all day (looking at the Jays here lol).
Imagine how more awesome Rob could be if this team was better at offball movement and cutting.

I think Theis has to sit. Thompson is better than Theis. And, Rob Williams has to play. So. We end up with Theis as the third center. Thompson starts, Williams off bench. Not gonna trade Theis unless I have a Theis big because of injury. But we just can’t do it.

Re: Let's talk Robert Williams
Between his rim-running and his offense rebounding, Rob will soon force opponents to focus on trying to stay between him and the basket. Indeed, this may be why we're seeing more shot variety from him.
Kevin McHale he's not; rather, he's showing versatility while still in the air receiving the ball. But on the whole, I'm pretty optimistic that:
-- He can use his athleticism to get the ball in deep position.
-- If he gets the ball in deep position, he'll score a lot.

With the Celtics, I always like to look at what happens with Tatum first. His track record is proven and it has been positive on both sides of the floor in every single year of his career. The Celtics have outscored opponents by 4.6 points per 100 with Tatum on the floor this year.
Timelord has played about 2/3 of his non-garbage time (these are cleaningtheglass numbers) with Tatum and the Celtics have outscored opponents by 5.4 points per 100 in those minutes. Everything is all good there. In Timelord's minutes without Tatum, the Celtics have been outscored by 13.8 pts per 100.

Using names from the past he reminds me of Shawn Kemp. Kemp could post a little but very similar ways they impacted the game.
I also want to declare RW's ceiling as a TOP 5 center in the NBA. And that is ceiling will require 30+ min and health of course.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

I wish it was that easy, unfortunately. Theis allows for the offense to be spread out which gives guys like JB & JT the ability to drive to the rim if there's no help or to kick it out to the guy whose defender decided to close out on the drive. If they tried running this O w/ Tristian or Rob, they would be no more than a statue out there. Theis has shown the ability to knock down 3's which the other two guys have not. I'd love to see Rob add the 3 to his repertoire but that won't be worked on until he's perfected his inside game. This is exactly why AD would have been perfect on this team.

To be completely fair
Theis with the Jays is +18.0 per 100 if Thompson is not on the court.
Thompson with the Jays is +13.7 per 100 if Theis is not on the court

Not only that, add Kemba into the mix and the Celtics have a net rating of -34.5 w/ Jays/Timelord. So this evidence is tricky.
I do think Kemba + Theis have chemistry. The same with Tatum + Timelord. Something Stevens can consider when doing his staggered second unit rotations.

For Rob's health, we should limit his time with Jaylen. One of those lobs is gonna get him killed.
