And who do you have your eyes on?
If we are at the point of looking at guys that get us over the top then I think its guys like Beal, not John Collins. If we are looking for 4s then I'd want one thats not undersized and can shoots 3s better than Semi. Right now he's not as good as Siakam or Tobey Harris and I don't want to pay either of them max deals either. You also are going to have to buy HIGH on this guy which means a bunch of outgoing assets too. I'd rather take some deals that make us better now without hamstringing us for the next 4 years with a mediocre 4
The issue is the only chance you have at getting a player like Beal is by using Brown, a young guy and a few 1st rounders. Then youre stuck with Beal/Tatum and still needing a 3rd star. The problem then turns into, how do you get that 3rd star. You wouldnt be able to sign them because you wont have the cap space, that means you would have to trade for that 3rd star.
The issue is, Ainge has done a bad job drafting, so at the moment you guys dont have any young players with much trade value. It would have to be Smart, Robert Williams and some distant 1st round picks. The question then turns into, what does Smart/Williams/distant 1st rounders get you? Does that get you that 3rd guy who is a top 15 player? I doubt it.
This is all facts and in reality what’s most likely to occur by an overwhelming margin. I think the thought with beal here that because of the connection with Tatum which is undeniably close- that perhaps, perhaps beal would want to leverage himself to Boston to play with Jayson and in an ideal scenario brown forming Boston’s own “super team”.
We all acknowledge it’s 95% likely that getting beal costs brown and that’s def a discussion we’ve had but I think the dream scenario is beal wants to come here and then the Celtics use kemba /smart /Pritchard/timelord or some combo of the form via a 3 team deal for example combined with 3-4:1sts and multiple swaps to get a deal done.
Beal has a player option end of next and he’s 100% gonna opt in regardless of if he stays in Washington or not because he’ll be eligible for 35% of the cap. If he decides to demand a trade he’ll have leverage where he goes and outside of the warriors none of the other teams have great draft picks in package (Miami, Philly, Denver, etc).
Again, it’s a giant long shot but possible as we’ve stars leverage to where they wanna go before
