Fine line between multiple firsts and 2nd and grant Williams tho

Grant, Langford and 2 2nds is pretty hefty for half a season of John Collins. Beasley cost less for 1.5 season. Kennard cost less for a full season.

Not in this market when the team wants to make the playoffs and Collins is better than both of those players

Bring it.

Seriously though, they have interest in a bunch of players. I’d assume the Hawks would want a decent haul for him though.

I'd forgotten that Ainge made a midseason trade as recently as 2019.

Change the 2 2nds to a first and that's about where I live. How much more are they gonna get for a pending RFA if they aren't planning on signing him?

I find it hard to believe they'll let him go without a Theis level player to at least somewhat replace Collins' production. They fired their coach, they are under huge pressure to make the POs, I don't see them basically just giving up almost 20/10 production and not replacing it at all. Langford/Nesmith are not playing much for them this season.

Fair point. I think if they do a trade they're punting on making playoff noise this year. Play Okongwu and develop him. You still have Gallo, Capela, Hill as vets. They're fine up front. Probably still at least make the play-in round and get some experience.

I also like the idea of sending them TT to replace some of those minutes. Not a dump, but if we're getting a 4 back and they need one, it just kinda makes sense.

What makes Collins better than Beasley and Kennard? Collins can't create for himself or others. Beasley and Kennard can. They are all underwhelming defenders, but Collins sucks at a more premium position and impacts his team more (negatively). What exactly does Collins do that makes him worth an overpay, other than get a lot of empty buckets on a bad team (and, coincidentally, as the team tries to get better, gets fewer buckets).

#1- Ainge can keep the large Hayward TPE for offseason which is ideal
#2- Celts feel like if he comes here, does well, and likes it that he would be more receptive to taking a reasonable extension.
#3- They like his game and fit with the J's
#4- If they cannot come to agreement with him beyond this year they can work out a S&T

So basically for Boston this is all going to come down to what Atlanta wants back in return and if it's reasonable.

And what exactly are we giving up for this rental? What would ATL think would be reasonable here?

Nesmith or Langford, Grant, 2 2nds.

Thats actually really reasonable offer. If thats all it takes to get Collins then count me in too. Any chance they'd take Semi instead?

Hawks have a +3.3 net rating with him, and a -4.5 with him on the bench.

He’s improved quite a bit this season.

Besides simply looking at his on off numbers and the fact that Kennard is a walking time bomb with his injuries we disagree on what an overpay is- I’m sayin grant 2 2nds and Romeo is an underpay. A clear underpay. I also think Collins can still improve to a ceiling way higher than either players.

Combine that with a league that is a sellers market in a year where the organization demands the playoffs that **** sandwich isn’t getting it done lol

Usually what happens is that RFAs are swapped for other RFAs at the deadline.. so look at people like Lauri Markkanen..

Ehhh. I wrote out 2 replies and they both sucked. Love Williams but Smart is just so much better. I'm glad no one said trade Smart.

You all should realize how special Smart is. Bron and Tatum are really good sure. But Smart is great. Maybe what he does isn't as valuble to the team as a solid scoring threat. But play a game with yourself. Watch a game and only watch Smart when he is on the court. He just doesn't let up. He is always doing something useful. pick any other play on any other team and do the same thing. They are not.

But also when was the last time a talent like Collins was traded for 2 2nds and a wing barely getting any playing time?

Collins is much more valuable to them than that. They will just keep him, try to make the POs and then at least get a S&T in the summer.

"The wing barely getting any playing time" can easily be "recent lottery pick." Idk why people are so deadset on Romeo and Nesmith just being bums because they havent played yet. Yall have 0 patience lol.

I don't have zero patience for them if they stay. They're just not being a centerpiece of a coveted young 20/10 guy

Guys like George Hill are going to be traded for 2 2nds, Collins is not leaving without a 1st, young player and at least someone on the level of Theis to help somewhat replace his production. They want to make the playoffs

Theis/Nesmith/1st is a very steep price if you ask me from Boston's perspective.

Ehh not really it’s an expiring theis, a late 1st and nesmith who hasn’t shown anything but bc of his age and the unknown still has appeal. I don’t think 2 years from now if we looked back at that deal for Collins we’d have buyers remorse and again I’m not even a big Collins guy

Smart is literally never just standing around. I don't think anyone else is like that. That's why on just a fan level he is so much fun to watch- and why when he is out the games are boring. He just is always on. We can dream up these scenarios where maybe we could be out there. If only I was a foot taller. But Smart is actually doing it. Granted, he is NBA size, but ifr you just look at hime nothing says this guy should be great. It is his hustle and winning attitude. If you like this team and Smart is not your favorite player than I would urge you to really watch the games and focus on him and the D.

His movement also engages and forces movement for other folks. He sets backscreens, his of-ball motions force other guys to rotate and cut to keep spacing integrity, etc. etc. And on defense his communication is critical to keep guys on a string.

If this is too steep for Ainge, forget about any impact moves. Some other team will get Collins.

Theis is gone, Nesmith can’t crack the rotation and the first is in the back half of the first round. That’s highway robbery if it’s all it took

Exactly. **** I'm 40 and I play really lazy these days. Always just standing around. "Oh you got the ball, you aint gonna see me even if I get open so why bother." But thats a common mentality even in the pros to some degree. Smart is always moving. If we trade him I'll also become a afan of whatever team gets him.
